The SNAIL Rider Cup is our take on the PGA's Ryder Cup - but instead of USA vs. Europe, we have USA vs. Canada. The rules are simple:

1) Three 20-Minute Combos (standard SNAIL qualifying procedure for first race, then back-to-back reverse grid), followed by a 10-Minute Finale

2) For the three 20-Minute combos, points are awarded as follows:

a) If one nation has more drivers than the other, their "extra" drivers are not awarded points (e.g. If USA has 6 drivers and Canada has 4 drivers, only the top 4 USA drivers will "count")

b) Top finisher is awarded 16 points, second place finisher is awarded 15 points, etc.

3) After the three 20-Minute combos, it's time for the 10-Minute Finale:

a) Top two drivers from each nation participate (i.e. Four drivers total), based on performance during the 20-Minute combos
Everyone else is highly encouraged to spectate - this helps recreate the Ryder Cup drama (you don't want to disappoint your countrymen)

b) The drivers from the nation leading after the 20-Minute combos get to pick the Finale combo

c) Top finisher is awarded 20 points, second place gets 15 points, third place gets 5 points, and last place gets shame.
4) Add up the points and figure out which country wins!

5) Nation-based liveries of some sort are mandatory (feel free to be... creative)

I like the idea as well, but I'm wondering if you could take the entire teams points, regardless of how many, and do average of all of them combined. This way having extra racers on one or the other, may help your team but could also hurt the team. Just puts a little extra pressure on the whole thing, Lol

I considered that, but my reasoning for going against it was that I'm afraid that drivers will be hesitant to participate if they're afraid they'll be pulling down their country's average.

Totally get that Brad, and I likely won't have a lot of involvement, simply due to my summer schedule so I'm not sure I should've chimed in anyway, I just thought that option may be better than a few people out racing for no points. Not too mention the unfair advantage of having 10 vs 5 and being able to use the 5 best of the 10, but again I have no horse in this race, but really wish I could make it work.

Great idea, just not sure of the night (Friday). Have you considered other options? Friday’s are usually spent with the wife getting together with our friends playing cards....and drinking lol

Well, I was originally thinking Friday so that we could fill some spots on the "Friday Night Events" calendar, but it would probably make more sense to hold the event(s) on a night when most Canadian drivers can participate (otherwise we're all but guaranteed to have way more American drivers).

This may not be the right thread, but I see that, in the past, there has been oval racing. Do ovals ever appear in the Sunday combos? When ovals had their own “seperate” night, was there a lot of participation? I would definitely be in for some weekly oval racing.

Participation was good on track maker tracks in GT6 until we all realized that they lagged like no tomorrow and the idea was scrapped. It worked well on in-game tracks but there just were not enough of them to keep it interesting from week to week.

I’ve been a SNAIL since GTS came out, and I’m pretty sure there’s only been one oval track chosen (Blue Moon Bay). So... possible, but rare.

I think we need at least 5 drivers from each country for this event to be a success - given that we have many more American drivers, let's find a date that works for our Canadians... tagging all the Canadian drivers I know of off the top of my head (feel free to tag any i forgot):

@DublDee
@MajorBlixem
@Rednose58
@RacingOtaku86
@Die_Birdy_Die
@Sean Renon

So here's the plan - if you all can give some general availability (e.g. always busy on Fridays, usually free on Mondays, etc.), I'll come up with some dates until we can land on one that works for at least 5 Canadians.

This sounds like fun, but Fridays are also tough for me - would prefer Monday if possible, or Thursday so I can still do my FIA races on Wednesday.

I really like this idea but Fridays are literally 50/50 for me in the summer, as I work one weekend(on-call) and get the other off, so on the off weekends we are out of town either at the lake or something car related, and barely make it back in time for Sunday's races on those weekends so my commitment to this could only be 50% at best.

Okay, I'm going to list a few potential dates for the first SNAIL Rider Cup. Please take a look and reply here with any options that will work for you (not your preferred option, but all of the options that will allow you to attend):

(All times are Eastern, and the event should last about 90 minutes)

Option #1a - Monday, June 11th @ 8:00 PM
Option #1b - Monday, June 11th @ 9:00 PM

Option #2a - Wednesday, June 13th @ 8:00 PM
Option #2b - Wednesday, June 13th @ 9:00 PM

Option #3a - Friday, June 15th @ 8:00 PM
Option #3b - Friday, June 15th @ 9:00 PM

Option #4a - Saturday, June 16th @ 3:00 PM
Option #4b - Saturday, June 16th @ 5:00 PM
Option #4c - Saturday, June 16th @ 7:00 PM
Option #4d - Saturday, June 16th @ 9:00 PM

Option #5a - Sunday, June 17th @ Noon
Option #5b - Sunday, June 17th @ 2:00 PM
Option #5c - Sunday, June 17th @ 4:00 PM

If we can get 5 Canadians to agree on one of the above options, we're good to go.

Combos still TBD, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Alright, let's go with Sunday, June 17th @ 4:00 PM for the first SNAIL Rider Cup.

I know a lot of people (myself included) use Sunday afternoons as practice time for Sunday night, so let's compromise. The three combos for the event will be the same three combos that we'll be racing that evening. The only difference will be that the lap count will increase by 50% (e.g. 6 -> 9, 7 -> 11, etc.). This means the Rider Cup will essentially be a formalized practice session.

If you plan on participating, please reply here and I'll maintain an entry list in the OP (@DublDee, @SAMHAIN85, and @Nicktune, you're already on the list). If we don't get enough participants, the event will unfortunately need to be cancelled.

Tagging everyone who has shown interest or is Canadian:
