Here is some footage of the new VIPER GTS-R, the car ran his first miles on the Carolina track with Marc Goossens (BEL) behind the wheel. Fans will be able to see the car exclusifly in the ALMS next year.

That sounds and looks incredible!

I actually thought they swapped the engine for a V8 at first, until I heard it from the outside :dunce:

They plan to debut it already this year. :dopey:

It's also ACO-"approved", so probably only a matter of time to see it at Le Mans. The waiver for the engine is a joke though. 8.0L in a class that until now had a 5.5L limit. Corvette might be a bit pissed.

The original GTS-R had an 8.0L. They ran restrictors on the engine, just like this one will.

Completely irrelevant what the original one had and all of cars run restrictors regardless of the displacement. Clearly, ACO & ALMS just couldn't pass when Dodge approached them with a nice letter asking for this waiver. I wouldn't care if they 10 litre engine, but it's just lame that there is a max displacement limit that all other manufacturers (especially Corvette) have had to obey. Well, at least until now.

1. Corvette was pissed about Aston Martin winning two rounds of the 2006 ALMS, stating that "if we didn't have that extra 200lbs we would have destroyed them." Well, no duh, dude. That's why you had the MAX AMOUNT OF WEIGHT ADDED. I'm sure ALMS would've added more if they could have. But, even with that weight, Corvette dominated that season, so their whining was rather pointless. By the way, Aston Martin's response was, "Whatever guys. You win all the other races and we don't complain about it. You guys are grossly overpowered and we got complain about it. We're here to race and have fun, so..."

2. When Viper raced before they had a big ol' 8.0L V10 then, and they were able to pull out a win or two...up until the Corvettes became insanely overpowered and everyone left GT1 because the Corvettes were insanely overpowered.

3. With Corvette not dominating anymore, it's obvious ALMS has changed the rules to make the cars much more even, so I don't have any doubts that the Viper, despite it's big V10, will be on an level playing field with everyone else.

I just mentioned Corvette more in the sense that if they had been allowed, they obviously would have continued to use their big blocks when they moved from GT1 to GT2. I wonder if they might have already sent a nice letter to ACO asking for the same thing than Dodge asked...

If I remember correctly the first GT2 (GTE) Corvettes actually used 6.0L? engine temporarily and initially, until they got the new 5.5L engines that they have since used.

I seriously hope to see it at Mosport, highly unlikely though..
