I've got some money together and I want to add some new toys to my collection along with the dirt bikes. There getting snow upnorth and I'd like to get some snowmobiles. Can any body give me some advice on them? I don't want a racing one or any thing, just something to have fun with in the snow, speed would be nice though. I looked at some Yamahas and there pretty cool. Can any one help me?

Artic Cats make the best ones in my opinion. My brother had an Artic Cat ZR750, wich still wasnt the fastest, but was very fast. On the lakes up north with his studded track, I could get it going a good 110 mph. 0-60 was somewhere in the 4-5 second range. It was so fast that it was hard to hold onto under hard accell. But damn fun. I think it costed him around $7,000. You can definatly get slower ones, or if a 750 isnt fast enough, you can go 850 if you wanted.

I don't have any advice about what to buy but I ahve advice. Never take your snowmobile into like a flood of water about 2 inches or 4 inches high. Impossible to control.

speed is important to me, a 110 sounds like a blast, I think I might be taking a trip to an Artic Car dealer.

You can go the fastest on ice because there is less drag like in a foot of snow. You have more control in snow but less speed. If you have access to froze over lakes, be sure to get studs for your track, I forgot about how much they run, I think around $200 or so, you can install them yourself. But you get more traction with a studded track on ice than in snow because they dig about a half inch into the ice. You will never go ANYWHERE on ice without studs, its like driving a mustang with slicks during a blizzard. An Artic Cat ZR750 is a good beginner sled. They are fast but plenty of room for improvement. Im not too sure of the stats, but I know I could go 0-100 in less than a 1/4 mile.

Actric Cat is a joke

There Thunder Cat which is a 1000cc+ and gets spanked silly by my Yamaha SRX-750 Triple.

You want something flashy and moderatly quick, go for a Kitty Cat, you want some real get up and go while not being on a fluoescent green and orange machine then get yourself a Yamy V-Max 4 800CC or the 750 Triple if you can handle it.

Forgot to mention that studded tracks are illegal on most official trails. ;)

Wait a min, you want to put someone on a 750 to start:odd:

Try a 440 or a 500 if you are a true beginner.

I've been on snowmobiles for years, I know how to ride them, even took a safty course on them. But they were always old beater or one that weren't great, more screw around ones. I want something that I can get up and go on.

TS1AWD I see your from Michigan, me to, but my cabin is up at Houghton Lake, well by there in Roscommon. Houghton Lake would be fun to ride on, but there are tons of trails just a few miles away.

I've said it before and I will say it again.

Helping people is over rated.

Lesson learned: No more putting effort into anything for anyone but me anymore.

I'm going for a nap.

Not in Michigan they arent. Studded tracks are legal anywhere, and on all public trails.

Thats a popular place to sled. My cottage is in Lewiston, on Snieder Lake, right next to East and West Twin lakes. Only about 25 minutes from Atlanta and Grayling. Snowmobiles are the way to get around up there in winter.

well I looked at Artic Cats today and I think I'm going to get one, just don't know which one, need to see how much money I got.

It pretty much will come donw to what I can get for the amout of money I got.

Polaris, ahhhh I knew I forgot something.

I got around 6000 to 6500 to drop on a sled

You should look into it as well for dealers. I know in your area up north there is alot of sled dealers. In Lewiston there is an Artic Cat dealer. You can also buy alot of used sleds from them and all the accessories you need

FINNALLY A FORUM ABOUT SOEMTHING I KNOW!...lol I live in north dakota so im used to snow:(...and snowcats:D best bet for me has been ski doo's theyre made in canada, so if you have problems with canadian made stuff dont get em, theres both an arctic cat plant and a polaris plant liek 60 miles away so i could probably do some research, uhm i dont know if u can evewn get racing snowcats either without a special liscence, im not pisitive of that tho

I'm not going to be racing just speeding down trails and lakes.

you can get in deep **** for this but if u plan on going over 80 with a snowmobile dont register it becuz you can get really bad fines for speeding in a snowcat

Haha that reminds me of a story back a few years ago. I was in the Upper Penn. with my two uncles and we had just got done eating after a day of sledding. We were drag racing some other sleds, we were all on modded up Yamaha's. These things would push 150 wide open, I never went that fast but they were quick. Anyways we were drag racing some guys on the street and this cop pulls up. We all just look at one another and yelled run. We took off so fast and went about a 1/8 mile down the street and stop. My uncle yelled "Hey ****** over here" and we bolted, the cop car came up fast but we jumped in to the woods and shot across a little lake over to our trucks. That was so much fun out running police on sleds.

Don't ever do that though, so illegal, but it was the UP, there all wannabe Canadians who happen to be half assed Michiganders.

lol, nice , very nice:D heh thats awesome i dont got any adventures but one thing i have seen was a snow cat drag race when someone flew over the handles bars at 175mph and got up like right after hit the grounded all he did was start laughing got back on his sled and ended up winning the race

don't worry bout typing I mess up all the time. But sled adventures are always great

the problem now is that all the sleds out are so damn expesive my ford probe costed less than some of the newer polaris's, arctic cats, and ski doo's

Ya I'm running into that problem, I got a trailer already, so thats ok, but these can run well over 10k for some of them. Thats insane.

lol i dont want to change the subject hear but id probably go buy a croth rocket before id get a BRAND NEW snowcat, yeah id take a 1999 one anyday over a crotch rocket but if ur gonna be payign that much get either a crotch rocket or a racing 4 wheller first:D
