So, I've been looking around on the archived Kaz Q&A posts, and I have stumbled on a peculiar post about bikes, and it was largely supportive. Sorry to say this, but I don't necessarily think bikes will ever be in GT.
Now, this isn't your typical "I don't like this, so Polyphony won't do it" post, I have thought this through, and I have come to several important conclusions with this. Firstly, the idea of bikes in GT is at odds with the original concept of GT itself. The original idea of GT back on the PS1 was that it compiled Japanese CAR culture into one game. Are bikes a part of car culture? No, they are their own seperate thing. Another point is not necessarily a GT game design point, but it is a player point. And to do that, we need to go back to GT4. Gran Turismo 4 is the fan-favourite of the series. I have said it before, and I have said it again. But, I'm using GT4 as an example for this point, since it will make this one hit closer to home. Let me cut straight to the point now, Gran Turismo 4 did not have bikes. And, quite frankly, that's my point. Gran Turismo 4 did not have bikes, yet people hail it as the second coming. The fact is, adding bikes isn't going to make GT leagues better alone. But, the biggest reason why bikes will not ever be in GT is the fact that it is a fan suggestion. As I have heard, Polyphony recently have not really been listening to fans. This means that unless they suddenly start listening, bikes will not appear.
However, I'm not trying to make this post just to attack a certain group of people. I like bikes, I think most of us do, but the concept of bikes in GT is just not right for me. I would love to see another Tourist Trophy spin-off, but we shouldn't mix these two vehicles, at least not in the longest-running simulation racer in the world.
