Jenson Button for the Drivers championship?

Before Singapore it was 7 used engines. As far as I know, none of them blew either, so he can re-use all 7.
 
Considering absolutely nothing bad happened to Button this year (no mechanical problems, no bad strategy, although he did have that accident in Spa), the distance to Barrichello, and the fact Barrichello is probably the driver with the worst luck in F1 history, the championship is pretty much on his lap. I just wish the championship is decided on the last race though.
 
I think Jenson will win but I would prefer Rubens to just because I think it's pretty much his last shot at it.
 
Its amusing to read my earlier post and contrast the comments to now, several months and races later.
I guess I was right that Jenson's consistencey has kept his lead healthy along with the inconsistency of his closest rivals.
And Hamilton did continue to play a major factor in denying his rivals points.
Brawn have (thus far) succeeded in keeping reliability up, with Jenson only retiring because of Grosjean.

I think all that is left is for Jenson to get his head sorted out, if he wins another race he has it essentially in the bag.

All the questions about whether he'd be a worthy champion are nonsense - nearly all past champions had dominant or very good cars, and they all did something better than their rivals in some way. Jenson made the most his dominant car at the start of the season, then when it became difficult to run at the front, he consistently finished in the points while his rivals made many mistakes. He made his own mistakes but managed to make up ground in the races thanks in large part to his team but also his ability and putting in those great inlaps and outlaps.
I guess this season will always be remembered as the one where Red Bull lost it though, because they made countless errors all the way through.
 
I think Button wil clinch the title in Japan

The next couple of tracks require downforce, so no more annoying back enders at the front wasting Vettel's, Barrichello's and Button's time.

Better hope like hell, then, because Button can wrap it up at Suzuka. If Barrichello finishes:

- 1st, 2nd or 3rd, the title race will continue to Brazil regardless of Button's finishing position.
- 4th, Button must finish 1st to be crowned champion.
- 5th, Button must finish 1st to be crowned champion.
- 6th, Button must finish 2nd to be crowned champion.
- 7th, Button must finish 2nd to be crowned champion.
- 8th, Button must finish 3rd to be crowned champion.
- Outside the points, Button must finish 4th to be crowned champion.

The short version is this: Barrichello needs to score five points per race just to stay in touch with Button. He'll win it, but only on a countback because he had the more-recent victory.

I wouldn't rightly call the likes of Rosberg and Alonso backmarkers. Kovalainen isn't much good for anything but the back end, but he's got a McLaren and KERS to go with it.

Suzuka has lot's of sand traps, they'd eat a car in no time.:trouble:
Then again I guess the same could go for Rubens, I know it's a long shot, like I said though, I hope. :D

Even if Rubens wins every remaining race and they tie on points, Jenson wins on countback, 6 (five and a half? :D) race wins to 5.

Did they change the rule? I seem to recall the countback as done to the person with the most recent victory, or is that only when two drivers tie for points and victories?

I thought it was total number of victories after points... (as stated in my earlier post)

It has always been points then wins, then seconds, then thirds, then fourths, then fifths, then sixths (then sevenths, then eighths).

I would love it if Barrichello could finally get his hands on the title but I suspect that Button has it in the bag.

Whatever it is they are both equally deserving in my eyes.

I reckon Jenson will get it now... Barrichello has been great, but Jenson outclassed him when it counted. Vettel has been let down by some bad mistakes and reliability, but his time will certainly come.

Let's just be thankful that Bernie's medal system didn't see the light of day - otherwise Button would have won the title at the weekend...

JPM would be perfectly capable of winning the World Championship if he returned to F1 and was in the right car.
 
Yes, but I think JPM is fine, perfectly capable as well as having a chance to win the championship in the series he runs now without a great car, just a good one. He is a great driver.
 
I don't think JPM would return to F1 now anyway especially considering the success he is currently having in nascar, Yet despite been 3rd in points he has only 1 win to his name at infinion in 08 and no oval wins :odd:
