Here's proof. Look at this Mazda Furai Concept:

Never washed, these are the results after about 1300 Km of races on road tracks, including hour-long ones.
The car never went to dirt tracks (actually I'm not even sure it can).
It takes much time for dirt to visibly accumulate, it seems.

There's a bug, though: in the Garage the car looks perfectly clean and waxed, however during races and in GT Auto screens, it clearly looks dirty. I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature to surprise people when they realise that their car is dirty.

Has anybody else managed to bring their car in similar conditions?

there is defenatly a bug i would say.. as in rally events when the car gets dirty in one stage its completely clean in the next...
I really hope they make the car wash usefull by making the cars actually look dirty in gt Auto.

Well, my Mazda Furai does look dirty in the GT Auto. I don't want to wash it yet though.
However, it looks like dirt accumulation depends mainly on the driven distance rather than actual dirt collected during races.

thats very interesting.. Im going to have to try this out.. This was actually a feature that I like because it shows that the car is actually being used. Thanks alot for the update!

I liked how in the older GT games the car would lose ALL of the shine and look totally dull & flat in color. The cars don't seem to go completely dull anymore (they are less shiney for sure but still look pretty glossy). It would be neat if the car kept that super dirty look like you get on the rally stages. That would be awesome. I'd keep my old junkers in a state of total dirtiness! :dopey:

My Furai started out clean, by the end of the GVS 300km, I noticed an abundance of dirt on the rear diffuser and wing.

Furai and Veyron are both Standard. I think its based on how many races it does, not on crashing or being in dirt tracks, etc.
It could also depend on how many long races the car raced in.
I've got a Ferrari 458 Italia used for almost 800 kilometers, and it looks perfectly clean. However, compared to the Mazda Furai, it raced mainly on short races.

Thanx SHIRAKAWA Akira for this cool update. I thought, Kaz still missed sth. when he included the car wash, but forget the dirt build up in GT Auto or just included the boring "less shiny" effect.

Happy to see, that it can be really dirty, even without using at dirt tracks.

The dirt effect is definitely in, but it's bugged and/or much toned down than what it should be, I think. Cars should get quickly dirty in dirt/rally tracks, or wet races (to a lesser extent). Also this effect should be visible in the garage. Brake powder, grass, mud and particulate from exhaust fumes should accumulate too! Car glasses seem to be unaffected by dirt, by the way.

I read before the game came out that in previous GT's that cars would just get 'less shiny'... and they were going to add 'Dirt Tracking' to GT5. They said it would actually keep track of all the dirt that came up on to the car and stay there until you washed it. It was actually something the developers were pretty proud of. They mentioned that it was extremely difficult to code it into the game... Too bad it was a waste of time!

Cars do get dirty, but I only managed to get them in that condition after 2 or 3 laps on dirt tracks. Then, if I try them on a different track, they are always clean. Very wierd, since I havent washed my oldest car since I got it, and it is always clean.

Now that you mention, the AI cars in rally events do get really dirty when they finish. On snow, they even get chunks of ice on the doors. In contrast, your car is always shining clean.

Perhaps it's for an update?

One thing I noticed was while grinding the Indy race to level up my RM'D Z1R lap times started falling off a bit and I also noticed that my top speed was down a couple of miles per hour on the straights.

Just out of curosity I went and washed the car and viola my top speed went back up to original levels which resulted in going back to the original lap times.

So the "car wash" and having a slick clean surface not only affects the looks but seems to also affect the cars performance which I think is a pretty cool addition as that lost couple of miles per hour by avoiding race maintenience could be the difference in winning or losing.

I also wonder as the game unfolds if things like regular oil changes will also affect an engines longevity as far as maintaining peak horsepower and lengthening time between engine rebuilds?

Figure some of the high dollar race cars cost about a half a million to rebuild the engine so if regular oil changes make their life longer then its cheap and well woth spending the money on.
