okay.. My data which had 300cars and 19,786,456 million dollars, just corrupted. and im P_ssed off about it, because its all GT5's fault. It froze, so i pressed the power button. and Saving Game came up. right as a pushed it. I have my data saved, but from a few weeks ago.. so im going to never the less, lose about 20 cars and quite a few setups.. and money.. -__-
can someone help with what i do from here on to not lose stuff? :scared:

Hey, at least you have a back-up save, instead of starting all over again. And my only advice is to back-up more regularly than what you're usually do.

Same thing happened to me today, but my backup was only 3 days old. So well use the one that you have, better than nothing, and remember to backup almost everyday after you finish to play.

Mh i have a question.. like i said, it was the same thing, saving game came out, i was resetting and it ******* everything...my question is, i had autosave on. If autosave is off, and something like this happens, the savegame is safe?

Same here. I was coming out of the options menu and trying to quit to the XMB at the same time. My only backup is on PS+ storage, and my free subscription ran out...

This is crazy, it's EXACTLY the same thing, i was trying to exit the game from the xmb, it was black with the little thing up on the right stopped or something so i had to press the power button.
Something is really wrong, if this is happening to many people today.

I was exiting from the new seasonal, the race on nurb 24.

To anybody who has had their data corrupt, how do you turn off your PS3? I played my PS3 almost all day every day during summer break(literally, I know it's bad) and I've never had a problem. I always save and turn my PS3 off from the XMB menu.

I always turn it off from the xmb too. But everything was frozen this time, even the xmb, the power button was the only possible thing.

how would i back up my saved games, USB stick memory? Copy GT5 saved game in XMB to the thumb drive? or is there another way to do it. i want to back up my data now

Can you use data backed up from one PS3 on a new PS3?

When did this happen?

I heard these stories about this game as soon as I started researching it, so the first thing I did was toss a USB stick in and back up my game every night before bed. One backup is no backup, two backups is one backup; therefore I also keep a weekly backup of the game stored on my PC in case the thumb drive and the PS3 save both get corrupted somehow.

As an administrator of hundreds of servers and literally thousands of clients at work, my motto is "backup, backup, backup"

I hear you all but we are in the tenth patch now and this still happens, totally unacceptable

What is this PS storage I hear about?
You have to pay to save your game?
What are the benefits?

Sorry I haven't heard of this.

You're lucky. We can't even get the Nurb 24 to complete loading. The load bar completes and then everything seems to freeze or come to a halt. BTW can someone please explain xmb to a couple of newbies.

A trick I use is to eject the disk.
I had the impression that suddenly stops the game and activates the xmb again.
Till now this has not made any issue with corruption.

Online storage can be done if you have "PlayStation Plus", but this is a paying service, a USB stick will do.

Can you use data backed up from one PS3 on a new PS3?

On a new PS3 you need to use the same PSN id for the account or you can not use the safe.

Just the other night.
I'd have thought the PS3's OS would know that a game is in the middle of saving data and not just kill it in its tracks! Unless GT5 is to blame for giving out the wrong signals.
EDIT: The PS3 reset itself after a brief freeze, and beeped thrice. It seems it's the console / OS, not necessarily the game - if you try to quit to the XMB whilst the game is saving, it messes things up. You'd think the OS would know to wait until saving had finished. You wouldn't expect such "soft" action to be so potentially damaging.

I'd not played the game in a while, either...
I don't have a USB backup because my PS3 hates my infected USB drives; I could never be arsed to single one out and clean it for the purposes of backing up. My fault, sure, but there is still a fundamental issue with the way the game / OS works.

Heres a question what PS3's do you guys have the fat ones or a slim becauce my game data has never been corrupted by force restarting my fat one maybe mine wasnt saving at the time though i cant remember im just wondring. its very rare though that my game freezes the console (being it dissabling my XMB) i got my game on a SD card so im set though.

one thing I find a tad conclusive, is that PS3's dont like saving stuff to USB flash drives that are mostly almost full. I had 2 in 5 corrupted 0 byte copies on my 32 GB stick, and Windows 7 kept cleaning up files, etc. After a format of the 32GB stick, GT5 backups became flawless. Same went for my 8GB stick earlier. Or maybe current PS3 firmware is bust, Sony always "breaks what doesn't need fixing"

GT5 was the first thing I added to autosynch when the option came up on PS+ to back up data... I don't think I could deal with the data loss.

Exactly, that's the way to go. :D:tup:

I wouldn't blame the game for it
. :sly:

I am a hardcore trader, 3 accounts, 1 is at game day 18.000+ (means at least 18.000 save processes!), backup & restored thousand of times!

Gues what? I had ZERO corrupted game saves. :dunce:

That's certainly contributary, but I hardly think my case is solely human error. The only "error" I made was assuming the quit-to-XMB option would not simply kill any saving in progress and cause a freeze and reset, leaving my save corrupt.

I suppose it is human error, in that someone allowed that particular behaviour to persist in the firmware.

The main problem is that the games saves for every BS, loading a license, painting a car, tuning a car, etc.
And with the time your gamesave is getting bigger and bigger (mine is now 5.8mb) & loading and storing needs ultra much more time. :yuck:

Now that increases the posibility of a corrupted gamesave, if you get a power cut, a PS3 freeze or if you leave the game during a storing process.

I personally would be happy if there where a option to disable the auto/mid game saves. I can save it manually, when I quit the game. :sly:

at least you have a somewhat recent save, my ps3 kicked the bucket this morning, and i have a save, but i have no idea how old it is :/

Yeah I had this happen at level 37 and around 800 cars. I didn't think about backingnit up. So now I'm back to 34 and somewhere around 350 cars in about a month. Put spec drivers online to make some money back and the Ferrari seasonal

Its all mostly human error, game machines and PC's have memory and that since day 1 has allways had a glitche where it hanhs up even in the highest spec PC's this still happens. The only real way to avoid this is. If GT5 has frozen is a 90% chance its memory [as we know PS3 doesnt have enough] so exit the game via the proper procedure and DO NOT switch machine off. If it will not respond and the only option is to hit the off switch you will corrupt your game save so I suggest you leave the machine to close down naturally IE use the proper procedure although it isnt responding leave it, it will eventually come round it might be a long while but this is the only way unless you have your gamesave upto date on USB.

I agree to this.

You shouldn't spread such lies. The PS3's manual says not to switch the system off (physically) if the hard-drive light and / or network light is on, i.e. during data transfer. If it's frozen, the chances are that no data is being transferred, and the lights / sounds coming from the console will confirm this. I had a freeze last night on a friend's PS3 whilst loading a Premium in the garage view. His save was fine afterwards.

Yes, if idiots really are turning the system off physically whilst the PS3 is accessing / storing data, then that is definitely their fault.

But what about the software itself causing corruption? Whose fault is that? The quit-to-XMB freeze / reset is common across many games and points to a fault in the OS / firmware, not the user's behaviour.

I suggest you re-read my post. I am telly folk not to switch off there machines. Leave them till they eventually shut down themselves is the only safe way.

Why did you try to make out im telling folk to switch off machines when you only highlighted half the sentence, the rest of the sentence warns them not to. You need spectacles i believe. LOL

👍👍👍 best advice yet.
