So.. data just corrupted.

How about ejecting the disc when the game freezes? Leaving the machine to close down naturally could take too long a time.
 
Someone here is misleading people.
The PS3 is officialy frozen when holding the PS button on the controller doesn't give any response.
You may wait like 30 seconds just to confirm this.

If it really has frozen, then pressing the on/off button will RESTART the console, not shut it down.
If it does shut down, then it wasn't frozen to begin with.
