Well, I love our car. It's a 1999 Ford Focus 1.8i Zetec 5-dr hatch. We've had it for a little over 18 months now. We bought it as a one-real-owner(*) from new car - 4 years old, 35,000 on the clock. Bang on book price, perfect condition, perfect service history. The smoker owner even ran it for a month without smoking in it before selling it to us.

I've driven heaps of Focuses, and they've all been great. Our one is so too. After 5,000 miles, the front tyres (rubbish) were shagged, and the rears (original) were perishing, so I replaced them all with Pirelli P6000s. They transformed the car into something that really handles as well as is unusually quick. The engine pulls all the way to 6200, and the Pirellis allow full throttle in 1st - in the dry. I know Ford bang on about the "control blade" rear suspension, but the car's handling is a revelation. You can cover ground seriously quickly.

Oh, and we get 34mpg, with me at the wheel, flat out with the aircon on.

And in case you think this is the best car I've ever owned, you probably want to do a search for posts by me and with the word "cement" in them. Then come back here. Yes, the Euro-Focus is that good.

(*) We're actually the third owners. The car was pre-registered to fiddle Ford's sales figures.

I bought an '05 Ford Focus ZX5 SES (4dr hatchback) in June and I love the hell out of it. It's an absolute BLAST to drive...and it handles better than my previous Nissan 200SX (2dr Sentra Coupe) SE-R. It's quite quick even with the A/C on full blast...and I get 30mpg with the A/C on full blast. And I rather like the new front facia on this years model. I raced a Mustang GT ('99-03 model) on the freeway the other day and was even with him till we both shut it down at 110mph. It's got enough power for me to pass people and have some fun so I won't be ricing it or even adding one performance upgrade. It has quite a decent boot along with room for 4 adults. Not to mention finally a decent Ford factory radio worth a damn. 6 disc in-dash CD changer with MP3 support. I'll definately keep this car once it's paid off. :)

Oh and BTW, the Nissan Murano is a real good SUV and I used to hate the front grille until I got a job working at Nissan and grown to love it's design...not to mention it's quite fun to drive and very comfortable. Only SUV I'd ever own that's not the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. :)

Is this the thread you are refering to?

Something is wrong in that thread. The guy who started the thread is BlazinXtreme who I thought was a respectable GTP member but every time he is quoted the name of the quotee is Streetracer780. Is something wrong with my computer or what?

That's probably his original name, before he got the Primium Membership and changed his name. Also, the thread is from 2002. :)

P.S. Blazin's not that respectable. :p

Back then you could poiltely ask Jordan to change your name and he did, so that might have been the case.

I bet Blazin is wishing he could delete all that .

I don't know if it was in that thread, but I do recall when BlazinXtreme publically swore off any support of street racing and changed his name.

Damn, that was a long time ago...

Awesome!
I was actually made a good deal on a red 2004 BMW 330CI Convertible with a Performance Package in a color called Imola Red.
Thanks to Pete, it's still open for a while.

Thanks. My good friend has an '05 ZHP Coupe in Imola Red. Very nice color. If you like the ZHP, I recommend a sedan or coupe. The vert takes a 300 lb. weight penalty in addition to a signifigant loss of rigidity. But if you like verts, its hard to beat a 3er.

I daily drive a 2001 Acura Integra Type-R. It's totally original, and it'll most likely stay that way. It's also totally yellow, and that's the only thing I don't really like.

I've got a 93 Civic hatch I use for weekend fun, but that's another story altogether.

Good luck with it and don't keep it parked in one place for a long or scheduled time. High rate of theft, got to love it.

I think you have the quickest car on GTP.

Or at least until I get better at drag racing.

While not exactly a luxury, none of the problems with our '94 Plymouth Acclaim is performance-related. Not to mention the custom engine the previous owner installed that makes our drab little sedan FLY when the pedal comes down. She handles all right, too-we have some challenging backroads down here in southeast Ohio, and she takes them very nicely.

My mum had P6000s on the Previa (only things in stock) and teh wear rate was terrible, only 6000 miles on them I think.

I would think that the Previa is probably a little harder on them than a Focus! I also only ran through 2mm of tread depth in 5000 miles on a set of P6000s in my Subaru, so your Mum might have wheel alignment issues.

Yeah it probably is. :)

And yes she does have some wheel alignment troubles as she daily goves over a dozen or so centre speed bumps (the annoying but ambulance friendly ones). We wre just wondering if the tyres were also a contributing factor.
