So G27 just has an H shifter?

So what do you prefer? DFGT has both a sequential stick and paddle shifting. It would be nice if they made a wheel with all 3. Driving F1 cars with paddles is fun as hell.

Also, would you say GT5's H shifting is good training for learning real stick shifting? My sister wanted to learn but the old accord has a broken clutch. Plus it would be good to practice clutch and throttle balancing..

It's a good way to learn the concept, and perhaps will save your new clutch from your sister.:sly:👍

But nothing beats real world experience.👍

Which also causes engine breaking to end up in hilarious spins into walls/cars at 200mph.

Anyway, while it's being fixed, you should order her to go to driving classes via GT5. You should teach her launching from an up hill, because a lot of new manual drivers don't feel too confident when it comes that situation.

Spa Eau Rouge can be great place to teach her that.

Didn't they improve this in 2.0 with G27 support? I still have to try it...
 
You can't really practice balancing with the wheels as they don't have enough slip to begin with. There's a little, but very very little.
 
Seconding the opinion that the G27 clutch is no way to learn how to drive a real clutch, especially with no motion feedback (half of driving a clutch is feeling the car move based on your inputs) and the crap clutch support found in GT5.
 
G27 is as real as it gets on GranTurismo. If you want stick shift realism go to another game, most likely on PC. But the G27 is great for concept, but you'll never get the real feel of real life.

I agree. It's the same with ffb wheels feels nothing like a real steering wheel.
 
DO NOT TRY to learn hill-starts with clutch in GT5.
3 reasons:
  • 1. At speeds up to 5 mph (8 kph), the gt5 physics are extremely unrealistic, and the tires feel like slipping on ice. Don't try learning with crap physics...
  • 2. The clutch support from the G27-G25 on GT5 is extremely bad, and as such, you can only slip the clutch in a small section of the travel of the clutch pedal.
  • There is no clutch force-feedback, preventing you from learning via feel.

EDIT: This in no way implies that the G25/G27 wheels are awful wheels. This just means that they have very little in common with real-life counterparts.
Sidenote - Yes, I wish we had Sequential shifting (stick, not paddle) in the G27... and clutch with the paddles or sequential stick shift. That'd be awesome.

I think it doesn't need it. Sometimes I find myself wanting it but it's not a biggie when I have paddles. The next closest thing to sequential in a G27 is just shifting with the stick but in off-clutch mode (Shifting with the stick without using the clutch).

And as for learning, I have first hand experience (I'm a teenage driver in progress too...) that tells me it's a definite NO-NO. It'll just teach you the basic of GEAR-RELEASE THROTTLE-STEP IN CLUTCH-CHANGE GEAR-RELEASE CLUTCH SLOWLY-GET ON THROTTLE SLOWLY to change gear, but it'll never teach you correctly how to launch a car. There's always the "Dump the clutch" method, but for civilized driving you need a clutch with feel. Teach her to find that sweet-spot where you can move the car with only the clutch pedal and tell her to keep it there and from there on apply throttle, it's been quite useful to me 👍.
 
Come back in 10 years, I guarentee we'll have active force feedback clutch and brake pedals on the high-end wheel packages. I cross my fingers that it'll come natural to you by then.

if they would broaden the sweep of the current g27 clutch in GT5 then I'm POSITIVE a mechanical linkage and spring assembly could be built to simulate clutch feel....
 
G27's pedals are immensely better than the DFGT's, so are the paddle shifters, so is the way it feels with the leather.
