So, how do YOU deal with SPAM?

Lately, I've been recieving spam like crazy... espeically from one "organization", that keeps sending me the exact same email every single day! The problem is, I can't effectively block them, because as soon as I add their email address to my block list, they come up with a brand new one! (get@aneducation.now, get@adegree.now, iurge@you.now, etc...) I've also recieved some weird email "offers", such as from a company to get peni-- erm, let's just say enlargements. And, today, I also recieved a piece of email to win free vodka. :rolleyes: Jeebers people!

So, how do ya'll deal with spam, short of blocking everybody not on your contacts list? :D
 
My ISP now has an excellent automated Spam blocker. In my "Spammed" account I went from 20 e-mails a day to 3. My old method was to use a specific account that I would use for signing up and when it would get out of hand, I would delete it and start fresh.

I hardly get SPAM.:) My ISP must have a good SPAM filter.;)
 
I don't SPAM at all. I used to all the time. I had hotmail and I got it relentlessly. I switched to an msn email and got no SPAM what-so-ever. I find it odd though, they are both accounts from msn so why would one get SPAM and not the other? :confused:

I am happy though. I never get email anymore. Ever since I made this email up I have not recieved any messages. Only the one you get from msn when you activate your account. :) :(
 
I use the delete key. makes life simple. Unfortunately, my isp has no spam filtering whatsoever, and i cant use an alternate email program. it sucks. but i also dont get a whole lot of spam nowadays.
 
best solution: make a fake account @ mail.com or something like it and use it to sign up for stuff.

That won't help out. Emails like Hotmail sell your email address to companies which in turn SPAM you to death. Why do you think they offer you an email account for free? There is always a catch...
 
i have my hotmail acount and never have (or had) spam mail.

btw you can set your spam mail filter to high.(and thats it bro.)
 
i use hotmail... and use the custom filters. like i kept gettin random porn things :rolleyes:.. but they always had pussy in the subject so i set the filter to delete those. it worked well until they figured it out and changed it to P*SSY :mad: and so i made one for that and its working so far.

as for other things i've gotten, the most common terms are stuff such as "offers" and "promo". it usually works well. :D
 
just 3 or 5 site have my adress so thats may be the reason why i never got it.

the only thing i got is the msn news and thats it.

btw and not sure of this but. i think you can set your account to get e-mails just from selected persons (friends in your list).
 
this is what i do. go to my mail (duh) then empty bunk mail. thats it. have you ever noticed how long it takes to get removed from there mailing list??? the 1st time i tryed it it sed you have been removed from our maling list. and then the next time 2 days,then 5.
 
My solution:

I dont check my mail.

Maybe once a week or so, but i hardly get anything, i have a block sender list to the moon and back.

Generally when i sign up for something i use ****@off.com or bite@me.com or bob@bob.com, but if i need a email it sends me then i use my aol account.
 
How do I deal with SPAM? I usually burn it and toss it out the window. :p
 
I don't use my home e-mail address for anything except personal correspondance.

I have two hotmail addresses and they get hammered - I just use the spam filter (which I think actually attracts spam!), and go through the e-mail I don't want and block it.

Still get it, but hey, at least I'm not getting it at home...
 
I've got Outlook, which autopreviews everything, so I just look at my list of mail, hold down the Control key, and then click-click-click-delete all the spam. I really don't see what all the fuss is about. But I am on cable, so I don't have to pay to download it, and my ISP has a 50MB mailbox limit, so my mailbox doesn't fill up.
Also, since I own my own domain name, I can sign up for things with lots of different e-mail addresses, and use these to manage my mail as it comes in.

It's all just another MICROSHAFT ploy to make more money as someone else said they sell your hotmail email adresses to these 🤬 ..
Then it gets so far out of hand MSN turn round and say get a MSN email for whatever it cost's per year
And we can guarantee no more spam

Note you have to pay not to get spammed see where im going with this

Sorry to all that like Microsoft but i hate them so much they just don't know when to stop

Same here, one for personal contacts, one for business, and one for signing up for every darn thing in the universe. Only the last one gets spammed, and it's a free hotmail account (well, it's free...what did you expect?). Hotmail is now more useless everyday™.

Another bit of advice: never hit the "unsubscribe" link (unless you're sure you signed up for the email list, and it's fairly reputable), it just tells the spammer that your address is still valid. I use the filters in vain; I tell it to check for words like money, sex, xxx, viagra, mortgage, loan, deal, weight, $, u...but it really doesn't work that well. The pity is that I get a decent (readable/not selling me anything) email in the junk mail at least once a week.

Putting your email address on your personal website is a good way to get spam; spiders and bots just munch on that stuff...consider making a .gif image of your email address and not using a mailto: command.

It also filters out bad advice from web surfers with nothing better to do at 3am in the morning.

Boy, isn't that the truth! I get quite a heavy amount, but, like Giles, I don't find it to be anything too upsetting - I just delete it and move on. The thing is, I get some very strange emails from every corner of the globe: Taiwan, China, Japan, France, and the list goes on. If only the spammers knew that I'm not able to read their trash even if I wanted to! :lol:
 
I either do a space by typing in a fake adress like your_a@tool.com or I used Keeno_uk`s E-mail adress :D . I only give my E-mail address out only when its abseloutely nessicary my 2 yahoo accounts are pretty much spam free. The only mail I got was E-mail notification from GTP, but I turned it off after a while because it got a little annoying.
 
I got my hotmail account pretty spam free, simply by blocking every single spam address I get in my inbox. I'm down to 1 or 2 spam emails per day. Plus MSN picks out a lot of spam too.
 
I had a hotmail account that was spam central. I just abandoned it and got a new address. I gave up.

I got the same ones as you did. I still check that email every week or so and I'll have 3-400 junk mails in there every week.

In my new email I get none at all.
 
i delete it and block whoever it came from :D

That is why I changed my email account from Hotmail to MSN. Once I blocked all of the senders I actually got more SPAM. It's like they found out I blocked them and got mad and told all of their friends to send me some. :(
 
I use the spam filters on hotmail and never give out my home and work email address other than to trusted individuals..... although this site has my personal home email and so does Boombexus, but i trust both the Admin and Boom so no worries there.

Apart from that clicky click time.

I find it highly ironic that Hotmail sent me an email message today to help me "fight SPAM"...
 
Funny you should bring this up. I finally gave up on my Yahoo! account of four years the other day. I had gotten to the point where no amount of filtering would do any good (the ol' address/sender/subject rotation trick :mad: ). I was getting sixty to eighty spam e-mails a day. Yeah, it can be deleted, but I just got tired of it.

My new address is so nice. No spam whatsoever! The messages actually load much faster since the server isn't so bogged down! :lol: Unlike Yahoo!, they aren't selling my address to everyone and their cousin. Of course, I compounded the problem by signing up for a lot of different mailing lists and such (this is before I knew better ;) ).

I hate those mailing lists so much. Now I know to give your email to one list is suicide.
