Are they? I've only seen the '08 episodes, and the guy who won (Lucas Ordonez or something like that) was a former kart racer (he is a good driver and thus could translate his skill to GT5 rather than being good at GT5 and translating his skill to the road).

The second place guy... the taxi driver... wasn't allowed to compete in the race.

Any idea what happened to him? Or did he just suck when it came down to it.

Lucas still drives for the Playstation team, hes not the second coming of Senna, but he can hold his own..

I honestly think they chose the taxi driver because the story was compelling rather than him being the best. It looked like he didn't improve at all and had some concentration problems. They probably should have chosen that Chris Medmark guy.

I didn't watch the end yet but Chris Midmark was way better than everyone except Lucas, and even Lucas wasn't amazing he was just really good. I'll have to check out the last 2 parts when I get some time.

Midmark made some mistakes on the last day.

To be honest... I liked the episodes solely as a type of reality TV. If playstation were serious about "creating" some racers, they would have say 6weeks of training and racing, rather than 6 days of 1time "make or break" trials.

Ahh thats sad, he was probably the best raw talent there. I agree with your assessment, unfortunately in the current format, one bad day can ruin a guy who should otherwise win.

He wasn't able to compete because he was sick, I think, and missed some practice.

A better question would be how well does a driving sim teach you how to drive a regular, run of the mill automobile.

This one wouldn't be very good at all since it does not simulate a clutch correctly.

Do you ever find your self while driving your car saying "ok this is not GT5, I'can't late brake and try to overtake everytime" ? or "hey the shadows details are so improved now.." lol

I'm learning more the other way around.

Best way to refine your driving technique is go do some Go-Kart with friends, try to go twice a month you'll be surprise how you'll improve ingame also.

The things I like wiht GO-Karts is that you can go at 90-95% of your possiblity and still be quite safe. If you take real car on track you can't really pass 80% of your possiblity without putting your life at risk (at least I can't). And ther'es the G-Force, how fit you are. Because honetly I'm not fit and I know for sure I wouldnt be able to make more than one fast lap on a semi racing car (GT3 or the like).

A good way to check your skill is track day. Now in europe you can drive a GT3 for 4-5 laps around a track for like 150 euro it's not that pricy and fun as hell.

For me it worked the other way around.
Went Karting for the first time a few weeks ago and suddenly did better in the GT Kart series because I knew how the kart would respond.

I think what really teaches you to drive, is feeling all the different forces while driving a real car. Driving fast corners in real life can be a workout for your arms at times.

The lack of speed-sensing and g-force-feeling makes it clear that this is just a game.

He was sick for the night race. Not for the actual Dubai race.

The basic fact was he wasn't improving like they wanted him to. Missing the night race was a major factor for him not improving.
