So I caught my dog chewing on something.

It was kind of dark in my room and turned on the light to see her chewing on my headphone plug. She nipped off the very tip and now my Sony sound-canceling headphones are gone. I came to that conclusion because normally something like this doesn't really bother me. I find another old headphone wire and replace. However, the last time I did that, I was a kid. Back then, Stereo headphones only had 2 wires. Now I get 3 wires. one red, one greenish blue and a uncolored copper wire. Those are on my sony headphones. Even the -EAR- phones has 3 of the same colored wire. I didn't think anything of it so I put them together to find no sound. I went back separated the wires from each other and still no sound. I re cut and tied again. Still nothing. I also tried other different sources of sound. Nothing.

Before I toss my $30-40 pair of headphones away, Is there anything else I can try?

Get a new dog?

I kid, I kid.

I have never successfully rewired a set of headphones either, I'm not sure why they never work.

First things first I find it funny when people ask for help with something or help finding something and you look to see where they are from and it says "Various Places" so you thing I'll just tell him to go to "Various Stores" to find a new headphone plug but instead I'll tell him to check at his local Radio Shack store or maybe any electronic store in his area.

By "copper wire" do you mean just naked copper without any insulation? That's pretty weird. If you can remember where each wire was on the headphone jack, I can help you out.

You'd just need to get a wire stripper, soldering iron, and a new jack from radioshack or somewhere.

I'd suggest going out and just buying a new pair. The non-noise cancelling one are just as good (sound quality wise) and are about $10-$15 cheaper. Dogs are expensive..

It's just as easily the other way around.

Can it? A properly trained cat will not destroy things, and will always use the loo in the right spot, puppies however will be puppies regardless, and dogs don't stop behaving like puppies for a few years. Unless we're talking about those tiny little dogs, like ****zus, pathetic and pointless little things.:p

Edit: Hey cool, GTP now has a censoring tool, too bad that word I was trying to say was the breed of an actual dog.

Not fair. Lets switch it around a little....

A perfectly trained dog will not destroy things, and will always use the loo in the right spot, kittens however will be kittens regardless.

I'd hope a trained animal would be more well behaved than just a random animal. And cats can be just as pointless as some dogs are.

It's "Shih Tzu" (or "Shi Tzu"), but I'll let it slide.

Train a cat? You must be kidding...But they prefer to use litter boxes because they innately want to hide their "mess" from other animals/predators.

And let's not forget allergies, too. But that's not the point of the thread.

I've spliced plenty of headphones successfully, but I haven't done so in many years. Is using 3 wires a sound canceling only thing? You'd think that if it, for example, provided a better audio signal that home receivers, car speakers, etc. would use it as well and not just 2 wires.

I'd suggest what Omnis said and just swap out for a new jack. If it doesn't work I'd say get Sen CX300s for your replacements. Watch out for fakes though...

That's why I have a cat in my room, dogs are outside animals.;)

Cats can chew/claw stuff too...
