IT'S... SO... AWESOME!

So I got this game early and have barely been able to put it down. This game is a masterpiece.

first of all, there isn't a career mode ala GT4, but that doesn't matter really since there is basically a mini career mode for every track in the game. You start out every track in level D, and as you race on the track, the level becomes higher and higher till you hit S, and the higher your rank on said track, the more prize money you earn, it's really fun.

YOu earn a lot of money in this game very quickly, within a few hours I already had a million, I feel that the focus of this game is on collecting cars. This brings me to the dealership. I thought it would be horrible that only 4 dealers would show up at a time per day, but after having played it, I like it, it just feels really good, and this way, it encourages you to buy cars and collect them... strange. It's actually really exciting to save up a barrel full of money in anticipation for your dealership of choice to pop up.

The game looks amazing, it basically looks on par with GT4. Now the car models differ a LOT in quality. I started out with a mazda RX-7 and the car model is as you would expect, GT3.5 quality, I wasn't very surprised. But then when the Chevrolet dealer showed up, I decided to buy the ZR1 to see what all the fuss is about, and HOLY CRAP, the car model for the ZR1 literally looks like a downgraded GT5 model, it looks SOOOO good both while playing and in replays, it looks way better than any GT4 car model I've seen, the same is with the GTR. I haven't seen too many other cars, but I would guess that all the new cars like the Ferraris and Lambos that they added after GT4 would be these Awesome models while the old cars carried over from GT4 would be low quality models, just a guess. But trust me on this, the awesome car models look AMAZING, PD has used black magic surely.

After you beat the B section in the challenges, you unlock custom soundtracks, I was very surprised when Jay Leno was like "Kay, so now you can play your MP3s doing races lol" I did not know this would be in the game and it's REALLY awesome! Speaking of which, the sound in this game is great, the new GTR sounds just like a real GTR I hear all the time, that low rumbling turned into a loud roar (there is a Nissan dealership near me), and the ZR1 sounds really rugged and raw, I think the sound is better than GT4. Also, the tire squeal has also been changed to be less monotonous, it now varies based on how much grip you have.

So far from the 3 hours I've played of this game, I've also found out that there is cockpit view, although it's far from the GT5 cockpit, this one is just a dark outline more of less, but it still looks cool, the professional physics feels very good, it's on par with GT5P I'd say.

Basically, the game is very simplified in a good way, you just choose a course, choose how many laps you want to run (you get more money the more you run) and choose your car, and drive, it's very suited to the portable experience, I love it! I wonder what other secret features I can unlock if I keep doing the challenges... there are 9 challenge clusters and I've only done 2.

HOw you unlock challenge higher than B ? Beat all tracks up until B or what ?
Seems so far I can only do up to B and I'm stuck here, even if I win the race.

You have to finish all the challenges in A to get challenge B and C and unlock D by finishing C etc. etc.

If you mean level up a track from B to A, then you just need to keep racing on that track for 2-3 more races. :) I leveled up the tokyo track to rank S and now everytime I do a 4 lap race I get 100 000... lol

Yeah, I like it too It is head and shoulders better than all of the other racing games on my psp that i have played, but it feels like a bare bones GT4 to me. Plus, I liked the orchestral style of GT4 better. But of course, I do still like it!!!

a real GTR does not sound like that....I own one and drive it almost daily....
the engine sound in this game is a disappointment like all GT games

@Crea, I wonder why you even bother posting......your post are all negative and it adds really nothing too it. Constructive critism is no problem but just being negative just doesn't work.

just my 2 cents...

Wow, nice to hear that you own a GTR. Reading this post from you, I suppose you have a driving license too. How does it drive in real life? Have you been able to take it to its limits? 💡

Btw, you're from Hong Kong right?! How old does one have to be overthere to get a drivers license? I'm just curious.

More importantly let us see this GTR with you standing next to it with your username and something like "GTPlanet, I told you so!"

Otherwise, words don't mean 🤬 without evidence.

Thanks for your impressions! I´ve been getting really sick of the usual speculation-game that happens before a game is actually in your own hands, so I´m looking forward to hear more impressions from people other than professional reviewers ;)

It´s also nice to hear you like the way the game is structured. This might be just the noob in me talking, but I really liked the idea of having an extensive challenge mode, and to hear that the race-rank system works good as well is great. I was wondering what the incentive of "leveling up" each track was (aside from proving you´re a good driver), but getting more money in exchange for that sounds like a cool concept. Maybe the game structure DOES make more sense than many people thought, it might be that some reviewers were so upset that their usual GT method of playing the game was missing that they dismissed this different approach as "watered down" without really trying to get into it.

you can get driver license at 18 in hk.... I got mine at 16 in Canada

I've taken the R to the track a few times here... tbh, its quite a boring car to drive.... it makes driving too "easy", i much prefer taking my 997 GT3RS to the track

I'm really surprised with what PD have achieved here. I'd say that when it comes to graphics, its inferior to GT4 only in terms of reflections. Its a far cry from any other driving title on PSP.

Its fun to play but having access to only 4 manufacturers at a time really sucks, the tracks are all available, 20-25% of the cars should be unlocked from the beginning, that would have gone with the pick and go orientation of the game.

I've been playing for about an hour now and the first thing that comes to mind is that it feels just like Gran Turismo, with a controller that is. A bit getting used to again, but great fun. 👍

I've done some challanges and races and after just a few laps I was right into it, with all aids off and at professional mode. The system needs to get used to me a bit, because at the moment I'm beating the AI big time. But that should change after a little while (or so I've been told).

The loading times are very short (having copied the game data to the memory stick) and the controls feel good. This is the first serious game I play on a PSP and the small screen is something to get used to, as is the way to hold this console. I've switched to auto shifting, because the manual gearing makes me feel like a contorsionist.

The graphics are great, as is the way the game is layed-out. All very intuitive.

Back to the game, later more.

How does the HUD work out? Is it intrusive? Could they have gone with a more lite touch?

I think the biggest negative the game gets is being compared too much rather than seen for what it is. But the positive impressions have me hooked. My psp disc drive just flopped on me yesterday. It will be my homebrew PSP for now on, Will get a legit PSP soon along with GTPSP...

The HUD is fine. It is that you mention it, otherwise I wouldn't even have noticed it. The HUD does not interfere with the game play and is even a bit too small for seeing how far behind your opponents are.

I still have to get used to the bracking. It locks-up all the time, just like having Prologue set to ABS = 0. That is my first and only annoyance so far. Maybe it is one of the tune settings, but I haven't seen that option yet.

On www.play.com it says that my copy of gt mobile is in packing,My copy of fifa 10 and my psp go have already been dispatched, seems a logical explaination to me.

Yes, that´s exactly it: People are having such incredibly high expectations that no matter how good this game is for a handheld game some people will always bash it. I´m personally glad to hear that from the impressions posted so far, the lack of an career mode isn´t nearly as much of a problem as some reviews made it appear.

my friend got the regular version of gt psp today. But i didnt, i orderd the collectors edition, but that just dosen't seem fair to me. They could have sent of mine aswell. But it was dispatched this morning, so hopefully i get it tommorow.Hopefully.......

Mine (Collectors Edition) spent all of yesterday and half of today at 'Packing', I only got the 'sent' e-mail around 1pm today.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, but this doesn't surprise me for Play.com, they often struggle with large scale releases.

mines still packing and mines the standard version :/

Same situation, it's been in packing for eight hours now, guess that means that it will be posted tomorrow and arrive Saturday?

Grr, when did you Pre-order? We are probably the same batch, I did on Sunday.

I noticed something nice about the AI: They are actually trying NOT to hit each other while fighting for the best racing line. They seem to be very well aware of where the other cars are on the track. 👍

Being a total GT newcomer, allow me to ask this: Is that better than in previous releases?

^^ Yes that is definitly better than previouis gT games.

I think the sounds are also better than in previous GT games.

While I do not own a GTR, I do like the whitling of the turbo when full throttle. And a nice cut of sound when you lift. This is in bumper view.
