so...ipod, Creative, Zune?

As for playing media from napster and whatnot, it just like trying to use media from iTunes, it cannot be done unless you strip it of its DRM. But that goes for MP3s as well, not just WMA.

The video conversion thing had to do with something someone said earlier in the thread - but for less technical users, this is an awesome feature because all they have to do is drag and drop their video into the sync pane and it will get it on the zune, no questions asked (no settings to mess with, etc). I personally dont use it because its a tiny bit slower than winAVI, but its still pretty good.

I dont understand why you keep moving towards the creative - you say you really like it, but so far haven't seen any reasons to back up your opinion. I've used it, and personally, didnt like it as much as either the zune or the iPod. Again, this is my opinion; if you want me to elaborate some more, I will.

Okay, well I said I didnt like it as much - there are a few reasons. Unfortunately I never used the computer software that it uses to sync with (is there any?), so this is solely based on the product itself. My friend let me use his for a class period one day, and though it isn't bad, it just isnt up to par with the zune or ipod (probably the most refined). The creative tries to be unique, through custom backgrounds and different menu styles. The scroll bar is similar to the click wheel in that its really hard to know how far you've gone until its too late, however, with the click wheel its easier to go back (with a D-pad, its easier still). The way it is shaped (i know, i'm getting petty) just feels less modern (it has a slight curve to both sides) than the other two. Finally, it feels cheap; this is a downfall of the zune, also (most likely because they both lack the metal back of the ipod). This is a positive in the sense that the plastic doesn't scratch as easily as the polished metal of the ipod. However, where the only scratchable part of the zune is the screen, the whole front of the creative is pretty scratch-prone (much like the front of the ipod). Oh yeah, and the music quality of the creative is less than the audio quality of the ipod (which in turn is less than the zune's audio quality). I listened to the creative and an ipod back-to-back and the ipod was superior (on some $30 earbuds). The zune is better than the ipod's audio quality (on some $100 bose headphones), so that was a big plus for me, as well.

Does that sum it up enough for ya?

Well everyone probably knows they've come out with the new Ipod classic. They've also recently come out with the new Zune 80 gig. On paper the new Zune looks like it might have the edge over the Ipod Classic; I also think it looks better. So which one of these is the wiser choice?

Correction: I dont think the new Zunes are actually out untill November, so I suppose it will be hard to say untill people start getting their hands on them.

The Zune is a very good player despite what every iPod fanboy will tell you. I haven't had a problem with it and the sound quality is great with the upgraded headphones you get for $30. The only complaint I have is the battery life is a little weaker then I would like.

After all of the time since the original launch now that there have been various firmware updates, the Zune is pretty much equal to the IPod Classic now. I am not aware if the Zune is able to function as a Hard Drive yet, though.

I now live in a "house divided".
One of my sons has an iPod just like mine.
Three others have Sansa's.
I'm not to jazzed with the controls on the Sansa, but it's built a hell of a lot sturdier than the iPod!
It also comes with a bunch of "promotional" crap on it.
But it's easy enough to delete most of that stuff. It does play videos, and it has a built in radio. If I ever decide to pony up for another mp3, it will likely be a Sansa, or the big iPod.
I figure one player for music, and one for all my books on CD. It will alleviate the storing of a bunch of CD books. Plus with a car unit that also charges, I can listen to all those long books, while traveling, or on the daily commute.

If you are socially conscious, this is the only choice:

touch2.jpg

This is the only electronic device I have owned where instruction on how to use it is not needed. Everyone who has used my iPod Touch is instantly keen to the touch screen interface. Tell your friends that you can log into Myspace and buy songs from the iTunes store on the fly from one device and they are hooked. Obscene disk space, codec support, and other 'geek' specifications go out the window.

Hmmm, my iPod, PS3, HDTV, phone, sunglasses are all glossy piano black. Fingerprints are nothing the tip of your shirt cannot handle.

iPod Touch is the only iPod product worth getting at this point. Everything else in the iPod range is outdone by Sansa, iRiver, or Creative. And the Zune is a hideous brick, get a PMP if you want to watch videos, not a Zune.

As much as I'm a iRiver fanboy, their lack of a high capacity player for some time now (last was the H340, 4 years ago) has put them out of the list of players I would recommend. The iPod Classic is great value for money.

I'm not going to say they're iPod killers because that's just getting lame... Who'd want to emulate one anyway. xD

Anyone looking into a multi-functioning player should look into a...

iRiver w10 (released "soon") and the Samsung P2.

My creative Nomad Zen Xtra fell apart. both of the aluminum plates came off, and now it won't stay on. couple that with a new Vista computer, and I can't get all of my old music off.

I like my Zune so far. It's got a few Gigs of Music on it, but no videos yet. Zune isn't crap, their installation procedure for Vista is crap. Or.. Vista is crap!

Mine's Black with the bluish rim.

Hahaha, that's brilliant 👍. +Rep

Meh, it's not really an issue. The battery (which I assume is irreplaceable) will die before they replace it anyway.
