What do you think of the looks of the new GTO?

Well, putting performance aside, i gotta say i'm pretty disapointed in the exterior design of the new GTO. I mean, WOW, it looks like a smoothed out 2-door grand prix! i mean, gimme a break, could it be anymore BLAH? I know i'll probably get flamed to N'th degree, but someone else has to agree with me. They didn't ecactly break any molds designing this thing. I'm pretty disapointed in Pontiac. I mean, look at the last TransAMs :drool: Those were some aggressive looking cars! and then they throw out the GTO, blah blah and blah for looks. Ok, let the flaming and ranting begin. ;)
 
I agree. This car was supposed to sort of "re-kindle" the fire in Pontiac... and maybe it does, but it doesn't help that the face puts you to sleep. It's actually not bad – the form is great – but it does lack aggressiveness.
 
The new GTO does look pretty bland. Not much visual drama, and the wheels look dinky under that pudgy body like a set of underinflated spares. On the other hand, I think it does look a lot better than the Firebird and much better than any current Pontiac.

The interior of the GTO is fabulous and should be a design template for all future GM products. The seats are great too.

I have to agree, the GTO should have a much more aggressive look than a regular Grand Prix. Especially for the performance it offers. But some people may find that quality desireable, it would make a great sleeper car, almost like a Buick GN in a way.
 
I think its a very decent car, but certainly not in the way that most people would have liked it. The exterior is visually appealing to me...but like you guys said, not very aggressive.
 
I agree, the GTO is, well, blah. If you just get a glimpse of it, it looks too much like a Grand Prix. While it does look better than any current Pontiac, it doesn't look like a car that does 0-60 in 5.3s.

The GTO accomplishes its mission as a conservative largish coupe that can blow the doors off any Mustang save the SVT :sly:

I do like the 'other GTO' (Mitsubishi's)

You have a point there it should have been WAY different stlying.
 
I like the car, but the styling is bland. It could use some of this...

Yes, its little more than a re-badged Holden, designed for Aussie roads, and based on the Holden Commadore four-door saloon (from the 'V8 Supercars' series). It gets quite well rated on European road tests (its also badged as a Vauxhaul/Opel here in europe) so might not be suited to american roads like a 'domestic' car might be.

How about the original(?) GTO - the Ferrari 250GTO? - hardly 'so so' by any stretch of the imagination.

Well i gotta say i'm a little surprised that most people feel the same way i do. But i guess i shouldnt be, because, well, it is a bland looking automobile. but at least it can perform.
 
The point of the GTO is not to look exciting. The first one looked like whatever Pontiac it was based on and went like nothing else. The same is true for this one. Duh?

And can you really blame GM? Everyone here complains to NO END about current car styling - down to the very details - because cars are too 'radical.' So they go for bland and now they get attacked. I honestly believe that the Mazda 6 is the only car produced after 2000 that everyone here likes - though the know-it-alls of the bunch will remind all of us that "the chrome above the grille looks like a milk mustache." Ha ha ha ha, shut up. There's no way to please you people. Period

We've had this discussion in this very forum on several occaisions. Each time it's been decided that you all (and this time, especially you who seems to judge vehicles purely on looks) think the GTO is bland. Congratulations on an original viewpoint.
 
At a time when gas prices soar, I still don't seem to see why so many manufacturers(sp?) think this is the best time to sell big V8 gas-guzzling muscle cars?

Because if you drive it nicely, it's not a gas guzzling car, and it's certainly not a musclecar.

M5, sure, it may not be an original viewpoint, but it is still a valid one nonetheless. When people pay lots of money for something, they least they could ask for is for it to 'look good.' Granted, looks dont make a car good or bad, but they can make it desireable or undesireable.

So then why am I not hearing from owners, but instead from people who are all talk and no action? And furthermore, why do these people criticise every single vehicle in production? It's completely absurd.
 
Well....Isn't this hilarious, when the GTO was first in prototype stages...I said it looked like a 2 door Grand Prix and boy was I scolded......It's another GM approach to bring a foreign car to the american market, call it original and profit...

gee, let's see, what did i say in the first post "putting performance aside", did you read that? this is soley about the looks. at no point have i said 'the New Pontiac GTO is a complete waste of metal and money, it's just crap'. I never said that. And i challenge you to prove that i have criticized every car in production. I love Corvette C5's. LOVE'EM!!! I like new Celica's. I like Chevy Trucks, I like Tacomas, and i like Ducati's. Never owned a C5 or Ducati though. Sorry, no i didn't do a search. My bad. I just looked back through like the last 4 pages and didn't see anything. And i did't know that so many people would agree with me, as evident by my first post. So chill out. And let me be, if the Mods think this has been re-hashed too many times, they will lock it up. And they do do that.

Yep. Of course the Celica owner would want to put performance aside and focus on looks. But have one - the GTO is a PERFORMANCE CAR. And more importantly, its bland looks serve two purposes:

1. They keep the price down. This vehicle is sourced from an overseas-market car, so GM did no research and development here. That's why they can afford to give you leather, ABS, 6-CD, keyless entry, 17" alloys, and 350bhp for $32500.
2. They make the car the sleeper that it is. The damn thing looks like the Grand Prix coupe. When you ignore performance and focus solely on styling, the vehicle loses every bit of its appeal.

And i challenge you to prove that i have criticized every car in production.

But not to prove that you judge many cars based purely on styling? It's absurd. Once you guys - all of you - get past the fact that looks and color only matter to 20-year-old girls you'll be able to see cars however you wish - for performance, for value, for pricing, for economy. Until then, decisions are based heavily on styling. Of course, if you want to be that superficial, go ahead - but you'll never know what you missed in all those 'ugly cars' you passed up. Take it from the Nissan Titan owner - it might look ugly, but it's the best truck on the market.

It's the station wagon version of the Audi 90 with about seven zillion horsepower. 87chevy thinks it's ugly, though he's probably never seen it.

They say if you buy a Mercedes CLK55 AMG Coupe, you can buy TWO of these GTOs...
