Las Vegas Drag Strip - Las Vegas, Nevada
Cote d'Azur is actually in Monaco, I believe.

The rest are correct. You can take all kinds of guesses for the fantasy tracks.

Yes, Cote d'Azur is in Monaco. I guess there's some licencing issue that prevents them from calling it the Monaco GP circut (which is what it is). Same deal with Circuit de la Sarthe/ LeMans (which is in France, yes).
So you know for a fact that Citta di Aria and Costa Di Almafi are real? (the tracks, not the locations)
This looks about right, but they still could have made up the roads.
36. Chamonix-fantasy?
-sounds French to me. Are they real roads though?
38. High Speed Ring-fantasy?
-In the equivalent GT3 thread (it's a sticky) someone found a ring that looked very similar to this.
42. Deep Forest Raceway-fantasy?
-I always imagined it was supposed to be in Germany.
50. Kashiwa-fantasy?
I don't recall ever having seen this name before. Google says it's the hometown of KY though. So, Japan (Chiba prefecture), if it's a real track.

I'm still putting (a very small amount of) my money on Route 5 (Special Stage and Clubman) being real, or rather based upon real streets. If it weren't it would be the ONLY track in "City Courses" which wasn't based in reality.

Chamonix is in France indeed but the track does not exist, even if there used to be a 24h on ice race a few years ago.

I'm mostly wondeing why this belongs in Write-Ups ?...

Chamonix is in France, on Viva la Bam, Bam Margera was there on one of the episodes. I would say the roads could be real, I didn't see any snow/ice there though...

Chamonix being located in the Alps, there's a good chance to see some snow/ice at the proper time of the year.

I've read that the high speed ring is a tip of the hat to the guys and galls that made Poll Position...

Deep Forest is in Germany
Trial Moutain is in Britian
I'm not sure if these are correct or not though.

They don't eixst. They are fictional.

As long as we acknowledge that, there's nothing wrong with speculating.
I can't see Trial Mountain being in Britian, it's too rocky and hilly from what I've seen of the country (which is only the south, so...). I'd guess Japan, but I don't have any really good reason for that. Just the style of road markings and retaining walls based on some pictures I've seen.

Oh man... visit the Pennines, or the Cambrians, or the Grampians - or indeed anywhere but Norfolk and the Downs -and you might change your mind. There's parts of the North when you can drive a golf ball 4 miles from a single stroke...

OOH! I wanna play a round on that course!

Wow, the Grampians are lovely. I retract my statement, it could very well be there.

I still believe the Test Course is really the Ford Arizona Proving Grounds, which is the exact same length (6.2 mile oval of the same format) and 32* banking (which seems reasonable for the Testy.) The only caveat to this theory is that Ford APV is set in the desert, whereas the Test Course is not.

For some reason i've always thought that trial mountain was in britain and that deep forest was german........i dunno y though

Does this perhaps come from GT2, where there were some races for Germany, UK etc?

The one thing that makes me think that Trial Mountain may not be in Britain is the monkey sitting in the tree overhanging the track after the first tunnel. There's a thread about this monkey somewhere. I've seen lots of small furry animals in the wild in the UK, but no monkeys. I've seen a few apes driving white vans on the M4 though. I think the presence of the monkey suggests a location with a more tropical or sub tropical climate, perhaps?

Yes, I forgot that in GT2 they had a bunch of races like that.

If we're going to go by that, Midfield Raceway is in Japan and Apricot Hill and Grand Valley are somewhere in Europe, although I'm sure many could have guessed that.

I'd say due to the monkey, Trial Mountain would be in Japan. Unless the monkey was imported for the race, or escaped from the local zoo.

Hmm....interesting. I feel that Midfield could have inspirations from Chiba Japan.

Actually, if you think about it, Both Trial Mountian and Deep Forest would be fantastic tracks in real life. With the greenery and overhead roads. But it would never happen in real life because a race track must have proper service routes and exits as accessibility to any part of the circuit is important. All the trees will drop branches and leaves, which is not good for the race cars.

Ok, here is my thoughts:

Ice Arena is definetly inspired by the Scandinavian WRC scene. Maybe Finland or Sweden.

The Test Course is actually modelled after (This is top serect) the Fuji Heavy Industries proving ground. This is where all the Subarus are refined. I have been there.

Both SS5 are inspired by Either South Tokyo or Osaka. The type of roads and buildings match.

Monico GP was on the tube last weekend and it is amazing how true to life the Game track is. Major differences is that many of the corners on the real track have been cut off and replaced with red lines on the track, due to safety reasons I assume. Also the chicain is different, but that has been that way for several years I believe, the game version stops people from taking the short cut. I also noticed a few differences in the building along the track, expecially just before the sharp left hander, but over all the game is very close to the real thing.

I thought El Capitan and Cathedral I and II were based on Yosimete (spelling?) National Park. While this doesn't mean the roads actually exist, I think the courses were inspired by the Park. I'm dead certain about El Capitan (which is easily my favourite track so far), but not too sure about Cathedral I and II - I've only had the game two days and haven't really had a go at rallying, but I heard that part of Cathedral I was on El Capitan (why are they named I and II is II is available before I?)

You can pretty much check the locations of "original" tracks in "GT World Championships" sections in GT2, where the tracks has been alocated due to it's "original" location.

As for Chamonix, should it be in Switzerland? Thik I saw lots of Swiss flags around the track - or maybe not?

As for Ice Arena, location is called "LapLand" on offical site, and "X" (wich marks the spot), has been set in heart of Finland, in LAPPI region, so that is probably why it's called "LapLand". Guess it is fictional track.

I don't think so, amar. Motorsport is banned in Switzerland (at least, I think it still is) after an accident in the 1955 Le Mans which killed a few spectators. Which is why it always struck me as odd that there should be a Swiss Alps course. So I'd say Chaminoix is in France. Actually, I think there's a actual ice racing course called Chaminoix, but if it exists, it's nowhere near as complex as the GT4 track.

Yes, there's a lot of speculation in this post ...

I reckon that Trial Mountain is in Britain and Deep Forest in Germany, simply because they appear in those national races in GT3 aswell as 4.

Do you race?

Cathedral rock and El Capitan are in the same place. Cathedral rock is mostly on the inside of the El Capitan circut and one of the trails uses the same first five turns as the tarmac course.
This is El Capitan. Famous with rock climbers and very challenging. I also found a picture of Cathedral Rock and an old map of the Yosemite Valley.

Don't we have a ton of members in Cali? Can somebody go drive around there and see if they can find something like the GT4 track?

(Nice to see this discussion reopened, BTW)

Chamonix is in fact in France I think, and in the 1960's there use to be a snow rally there, I think it was called the rally of du Mont Blanc.

The rally in GT4 could of been modeled off a stage in that rally, and if you want to know it was a Citroen that ended up winning.
