Chamonix is in fact in France I think, and in the 1960's there use to be a snow rally there, I think it was called the rally of du Mont Blanc.

The rally in GT4 could of been modeled off a stage in that rally, and if you want to know it was a Citroen that ended up winning.

Edit: I think there is a rally still their, and I also think that the rally is in Richard Bruns Rally and that it is the summer Rally not winter so there is no snow.

Spot on, Chamonix is in the Mont Blanc region of France and is famed for its winter sports. A number of motorsports events have been held in the region over the years, the most famous of these (and the one I believe is the insperation behind the GT4 track) being its use as a venue for the Trophee Andros, Ice Racing Championship.

Details of the Trophee Andros can be found here, but be aware the site is in French.

Cool, glad I didn't make a fool of myself. So is it true that the exact rally is in Richard Burns Rally, but as a summer dry rally?

You can pretty much check the locations of "original" tracks in "GT World Championships" sections in GT2, where the tracks has been alocated due to it's "original" location.

As for Chamonix, should it be in Switzerland? Thik I saw lots of Swiss flags around the track - or maybe not?

As for Ice Arena, location is called "LapLand" on offical site, and "X" (wich marks the spot), has been set in heart of Finland, in LAPPI region, so that is probably why it's called "LapLand". Guess it is fictional track.
It's Lappland, and it's located here in the norhtern part of Sweden. 💡

I reckon that Trial Mountain is in Britain

It isn't.

And KY is on record as saying that the track is a work of fiction and his favourite in the GT series.

All the stages in RBR are supposed to be licenced from actual events and roads, as its the Mont Blanc rally I would assume thats the case.

You can find details on the RBR site; its also worth noting that the game itself has picked up a number of awards from Blackhole Motorsports, including best physics model.

"Richard Burns Rally, the first true rally simulation game for PS2, Xbox and PC has picked up four awards in the Sim-Racing Awards 2004, voted for by users of Blackhole Motorsports (www.bhmotorsports.com), the webs No.1 Rally sim website.

The game released in July 2004 was an instant hit with Rally game fans as it looked to provide the most realistic and exhilarating rally experience on any gaming platform.

Richard Burns Rally scooped the awards for; Best Gameplay, Best Physics Model, Surprise of the Year and beat both Colin McRae 2005 and Toca Race Driver 2 to the coveted Game of the Year Award. "
