So Which Wheel Is Better?

I am torn right now between the Logitech G25/G27 and the Fanatec Carrera. The Fanatec has a lot of the same features as the Logitechs, and a better, more affordable price, but I probably will be getting one of these as a gift so money isn't THAT much of a problem. I just want to know which one handles better with the game, and which is less prone to breaking. And of there is another wheel out there that is better please tell me, just keep in mind that the main features I want are an H-Shifter with Clutch.

I like my G27. But some like the Porsche wheel. Inside sim racing called the fanatec the best wheel for GT5.

Finding someone that can tell you which is better because of playing with both may be limited.

Fanatec Porsche GT3 with the clubsport pedals. The pedals are what make the difference and there are no better pedals than the clubsport. There is also a kit available for the pedals to change the breaking/accelerator pressure which makes it customizable to your driving style and in return could shave valuable seconds off a lap. I would prefer the GT3 over the 2 as the price difference is quite a bit with no real usable advantage.

I've used all 3 of the fanatecs and if you are using for a ps3 the 911 turbo S wheel is what I would get as it illuminates the buttons for ps3 so you know what you are hitting. Performance wise, they all felt the same to me.

The RF dongle is useless.

The pedals make all the difference. I shelled out for the clubsport pedals and never looked back. I got the stand too and permanently mounted the pedals to it, it's pretty sweet.

For perspective, the only logitech wheel I used I don't know the model # of, it appeared to be older, but my fanatec wheel was better in every aspect. But like I said, I don't know what logitech wheel it was so it may not be a fair comparison.

they say they go faster w/ the g27.. and logitech products are very durable. but fanatec wheels have nice features and if they work, they're really good esp w/ clubsport pedals.

I would really want to buy a Fanatec, but they are impossible to get over here. So I'll have to stick with the G27 which is not bad at all.

I would have loved to have a Turbo S becaue of its compatibility with the XBOX, PC, and PS3 (I use all of these) but the Fanatec website is sold out and they don't seem to be making anymore. Most other websites, (Ebay, Amazon etc.) don't sell them either so I'm fresh out of luck there unless some of you guys know where to get them.

The pedals are absoloutely sweet and the adustment kit makes them feel the way you like.

My son refuses to use mine as he has the DFGT and he can't drive it anymore after running mine for a little while. (he loves the pedals too)

And now that I think of it, the other two wheels felt better to me. The force feedback and stuff felt the same on all of them, but the material and thickness of the wheel is far superior on the other two. You could always experiment and then just write the button markings on the wheel.

I'm obviously partial, cuz I bought and own fanatec stuff, but I really like them. Especially the clubsport pedals/wheel/stand combo. It folds up, fits under the bed if you need it to, if you are somewhat handy and have a drill and access to a hardware store, you can mount the pedals to the stand and you have a setup that rivals a seat setup.

p.s. You probably won't end up using the shifter, it's too picky and the paddles are nice. From what I've researched the g25/27 shifter has the same problem.

Alright thanks. I have a feling that I'm going to use duct tape, a computer chair, and my desk to substitute for the wheel stand while I earn money to get it.

You can still order the Fanatec GT2 wheel which is the successor to the PWTS. I just ordered that myself the other day along with the optional shifter and clubsport pedals. Like the PWTS, the GT2 wheel has multiplatform compat (360/PS3/PC). However, I believe they are quoting a wait up to May atm (for US). The wait depends on your location

In the U.S. and when I bought both of my wheels from fanatec they came with a sequential shifter and H shifter, pedals, table clamp etc.

For giggles I just went to the fanatec site to see what is currently available to the U.S. and each wheel kind of comes with it's own specific package of goods, one of them doesn't even come with pedals and many the shifters are optional, so you will have to pay attention to that. Both of mine came with table clamps too.

This is very confusing. Part of Fanatecs website says that the 911 GT3 RS Clubsport Edition comes with the Clubsport pedals, but they say its ou of stock. Then the other part of the website says the only edition s the Clubsport Edition, which has the Shifter as an optional part. If I were to order it, wha would I say?

p.s. You probably won't end up using the shifter, it's too picky and the paddles are nice. From what I've researched the g25/27 shifter has the same problem.

A lot of people report this, but the shifter works well on my G27. If using a shifter is important to you, it's something you should consider. On the other hand, because the Fanatec wheels have a wide range of adjustment options that can be set outside of the game, they are preferred if this is important.

I haven't used any Fanatec wheel, but my general picture is that if you really want to drive with a shifter, you are best off with a G27. And you won't be scratching your head wondering what you're getting, it all comes neatly packaged in one box. If you really prefer paddles, particularly with a narrow degree of wheel rotation (a setup especially suitable for GP and other open wheel or really high end cars) you'll be better off with the Fanatec. And the Club Sport Pedals seem to be unmatched anywhere.

How much did it cost?

It cost me $499 for the GT2 / optional shifter / clubsport pedals + $20 shipping. However, it appears I will be in for a long wait to get the wheel.

The GT3 is in stock (unlike the GT2). I would have totally went with the GT3 but the thought of not being able to race on the xbox 360 just doesnt sit with me well. I do consider the ps3/pc to be the best platform hands down for racing wheels but I must have the option to play forza 4 when it comes out with a wheel 👍 (edit- I dont have a 360 wheel to fall back to otherwise there is nothing decent on 360 but fanatec period!)

Since you asked bout cost- I assume you might be interested in saving money? If so consider buying a used turbo sports on ebay perhaps. Looks like some folks are upgrading to the GT2 from PWTS or you could just go with the GT2 + standard pedals + optional shifter. That should bring it down to around $350 + shipping.

I posted this in the Fanatec Carrera thread but figured it would be more useful here as I've owned both a G25 and the Carrera and can fairly compare them; I received my Fanatec Carrera wheel and MS4R (Next Level Racing GT Pro) seat in last Tuesday. Coming from a Logitech G25 (with a playseat evolution and shifter bracket) back in the GT5 Prologue days and NFS: Shift all I can say is in my honest opinion the wheel and shifter feel much better. Wheel feels good, not notchy and aggressive at all until you loose traction breaking your tires (then it shines). Shifter feels great compared to the G25 shifter (I modded mine to remove the sequential mode); it's notchy, tight, and feels just plain solid as far as going through the gears and down shifting. Shifter handle/knob doesn't move one bit in all gears except slightly in third (left to right motion). By notchy I mean it feels like a steeda tri-ax (similar in throw and feeling), had a couple of cobras and always loved those steeda shifters.

I've included the settings I'm currently using after doing various time trials and drift trials on multiple cars dialing and tweaking on the wheel. I wanted to get some good feedback but not at the expense of a simulation feel. I've driven (and owned) many sport and many muscle cars (72 chevelle ss 4 speed, 72 camaro ss, 73 corvette 4 speed, 75 corvette 5 speed, etc.). Most "race" cars don't have some crazy notchy steering unless you go no power steering and crank the steering ratio to 11 lol, most cars in this game factory setup should not have a notchy feel to steering.

GT5 in-game options:

Steering Type — Simulation
Power-Assisted Steering — Off
Feedback Strength – 10

Fanatec Carrera settings:

Sensitivity — 900 (degrees of rotation)
Force Feedback — 090
Drift — 002
ABS — 065
Linearity — 000

For the money you can't beat this wheel, I honestly enjoy it much more than my G25 I had and looking at the prices of those used (and the G27) I would just go with this wheel. Always can upgrade piece by piece later (CS pedals, CS shifter etc.) and even swap wheels if you get serious and feel like you want to take the next step

G27 is still my favorite wheel even over Gt3 RS v2. CSP are nice yet I found G27 pedals with the nixim mod works just as good as CSP when it comes to console games. Now on the PC I prefer G27 wheel with CSP.
I really dislike Fanatec cheapo shifters especially using the chop sticks. These sticks are good enough for the seq shifter yet are not firm enough for the H shifter. G27 shifter is a lot better (smoother and doesn't have a loud clicking sound) and easier to mount.

In some games and all PC games you an set Logitech wheel of rotation as well. True you can set the Fanatec wheel degree of rotation (I leave it at 900 degree for GT5) which is handy in some cases.
Another thing, I can turn my G27 around 540 degrees leaving one hand on the wheel compared to GT3 a little over 360 from my set up. (Even in GT5 I can't think of a time I needed to turn my wheel more than 540 and very seldom pass 360 degrees.)

Don't worry. Fanatecs aren't realistically an option for me in Oz becuase of the high shipping cost, and I love my G27. Zero regrets!
