Thanks guys i'm actually looking forward to trying this out! I'll give ya a shout in the clan thread when i'm ready.

Quote from Slant 6.......here we go!

Slant six wasn't kidding when they announced some big plans today. The team announced 1.5 that promises many things we have requested since day one plus some. Tournaments, Clan Ladders, and the Calendar are all going to be added, as well as the following:
Added the ability to join directly into a friend's game off of the friend's list.
Added password protected custom games.
Drastically improved the weapon selection ring. You can now move while selecting weapons and the weapon selection is much faster and more accurate.
Slightly reduced the Famas accuracy.
Improved the damage of the Desert Eagle. One shot kill with light and medium armor.
Improved sniper rifle damage. One shot kills with bolt action rifles on light and medium armor.
Fixed a large number of level exploits.
Channel names are sorted alphabetically by default.
Reduced the long fade in at the beginning of rounds to less than 1 second (the "darkness" is gone).
Added a 30 second game start timer to games when greater than 60% of the players ready up.
Clan patches are now displayed on your character in-game.
Clan tags are now displayed with your player name in-game.
Added center markers to all scopes and changed the color of the crosshairs so that they are visible at night.
Kill cam stops following target after 5 seconds.
Button prompts in death cam fade out after 5 seconds.
Target Spotting now defaults to off.
Weapons selected in-game are not saved to your custom loadout.
This is great news to everyone, we are really getting close to having the SOCOM we all want. Once this patch is out and working, expect DLC to released soon after!!

Well that seems to be a prety substancial update! DLC as well, new maps for sure and with a raft of classics to chose from the game will no doubt only benerfit, I wounder if there will be new weapons packs also? The fine tuning of some of the weapon classes will certainly see me trying out some of the bolt action sniper rifles!

This may sound like a noob question(s), but is there a SOCOM II and is that the one I need to buy? And are there maps I have to purchase from the PSN store? And this is a 3rd person shooter, correct? I just wana get my stuff together so when I do go online I somewhat have my "stuff" together. One last question, is it recommended that I play single player mode first before I even attempt going online? Thanx

You need to buy Socom Confrontation, not Socom II. (box art may look like the image in this post depending if the US one is the same as UK etc.). No, there are no maps you HAVE to purchase and right now, none available to purchase at all, you CAN buy the ENTIRE game from the PSN Store though if you so wish. Finally yes Socom is a third person shooter, there are a number of 3rd person views available but it's never an FPS.

Just to add you will not get much practice in single player mode either, Confrontation is on-line multi-player only.

I rarely play PSN (I'm an xbox guy) so have nobody on my PSN friends list who plays this.
I've just bought it with the headset and want really play with people I can communticate to, anybody want to send me a friend request (Duffers999). I'm in the UK.

Cheers Clark

Duffers, theres a clan full of guys for you to play with, all from GTPlanets hallowed pages.................send me a friends request and I'll send you a clan invite, plus you can then add the 11 clan members to your friends list.

MacBookless at the moment so posting on a horrible lapbook thing thus my aparent disaperance, all rumours of my demise due to a hedgehog related attack are greatly exadurated!....oh yeah, it's thursday so clan shoot tonight!

Its me again :) I bought SOCOM and I love it! Wish I had purchased it sooner but from what I've read on the net and in other forums I guess Slant 6 had alot of issues to work out with the game. As of right now I think the game is sweet. Reminds me of SOCOM II when I had my PS2. However getting use to the controls again are a little tough but I'm getting there. I've been playing un-ranked suppression matches to get used to the controls so I don't get killed to much when I start hitting up the ranked games. I wana get serious with this game and I wana win a lot. Anyways I'm looking forward to some intense matches with you guys and having a lot of fun. Thank you to the ones who helped me out before I bought the game 👍

Is this game an online only game? I just rented it and there's no main game?

On-line only, no single player at all.

Still a great game in my opinion, I've just had no time to play it for the last couple of months (damn work).

Yep, +1
Still regularly get on a couple of times a week, the American dominance is now a thing of the past and theres a very distinct diference in playing styles! You get a larger majority of "run and gun" americans (not all mind) and the europeans tend to play slow and tactical....the outcome is obvious.

You might want to give it a chance. It's a great tactical shooter. It's nothing like any other online shooter out there.

I had no instruction manual, and I had no idea how to get online. I waited, and waited, and waited, but nothing happened. I selected my rifle, pistol, uniform, armor, grenades, etc. I adjusted my audio and controller settings and tried to join a 'quick match' but I NEVER got to play. Just sat there, waiting. Done.

It's on its way back to GameFly.

you just needed to select quik match on the front menu. It was the top option, or the second option was to find a specific server and game. But each to there own
Anyone been in the Home SOCOM area? It's on the American servers of home I think, aparently theres a map system for pre game tactics? Patch 1.5 is still in Sonys testing department so it looks like there really pulling it to bits this time to get rid of te usual bugs, after it's released theres a veriaty of DLC lined up.

Is anyone going to be playing today?
I haven't been in HOME in months. I did watch a video of a guy walking around in it on youtube, and it looked just like everything else in HOME, useless. The maps could be helpful though, it would be even better if you could take the maps to your apartment, and strategize from there.

I'll try and check it out first hand later, and tell you how it is.

Cheers Bevo, word is it's a good system, hopefully with the clan suport hitting with SOCOM 1.50 patch among the myrid of other features we should get Home SOCOM game launching (unconfirmed so far) which will realy tie Home in and SOCOM clan games!

some rumbleings from slant 6 over on the SOCOM forums, looks like the 1.50 patch is now in final QA at sony and barring any more disasters there expecting it to go live in a matter of days!

The list of additional features and fixes is prty huge.....I'll dig them all out later, but there are 2 new special forces aailable dutch and italian, with new weapons for clans using them. Theres also news of patch 1.60 which should hit prety much straight after 1.50, this includes various extras, including 4 new weapons, best of the bunch being the barret light sniper rifle.......now were talking LOL Finaly they are releasing info on the first DLC pack before the end of the month, new maps and weapons being the main bulk of it!
Time to dust of those SA80's guys, the comunity is now huge in europe and with the clan systems and ladder comps and leauges in patch 1.50 it's just about to get even bigger......grenade!

The 1.50 Update for SOCOM: Confrontation is feature complete and currently in test. Due to the number and scope of the feature set of 1.50 the testing cycle has taken longer than anticipated. We remain committed to releasing this patch as soon as the remaining open issues are resolved. It is extremely important to us to make sure the 1.50 update is as problem free as possible when it is released and we are working towards that goal rather than pushing it out as is on a specific date.

A number of features in 1.50 are of such a scale that it will not be possible for us to fully predict how they will behave before public deployment. An example of this is the tournaments, each of which can accommodate 1000s of players. To account for this, we will ramp the size and number of tournaments during the first weeks after release to monitor and address any issues which may arise. We have also been working on a 1.60 Update which will incorporate any fixes that are required as Tournaments and Clan Ladders become fully populated.

FREE Downloadable Content:

We are happy to announce that the 1.60 Update will also contain additional features and content. We’ve heard your requests for new content and we are happy to provide free downloadable content with the 1.60 update. The following free Downloadable Content will be available to all players:
New Special Forces: The Dutch KCT and the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces. Each Force includes new heads and voice + a light, medium and heavy variant of their own torso and legs (each with a unique camouflage pattern).

Two new primary weapons will be immediately accessible to players who select to play as the new Special Forces; the 417 assault rifle for the Dutch KCT and the SPAS 15 shotgun for the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces.

Four new weapons will be available to all players regardless of assigned Special Force. These are the 9mm Sub Machine Gun, M82A1A, Ak-74 and SR-25. The 1.60 will also include a number of weapon updates and adjustments to existing weapons.

In addition to the free DLC included with the 1.60 update we are also working to add 100% Random Medleys in the 1.60 update. We know this is a highly requested feature and we really want to get it out to you.

More DLC coming! - We can also confirm that we have been working on a major content release/pack. Look for an announcement later in the month.
We will release more information on Patch 1.6 after 1.5 has been released.

In addition to Tournaments, Clan Ladders and the Calendar, the team at Slant Six has been busy adding new community requested features to the 1.50 update. The following items have been confirmed for the 1.50 update with additional items to come:

Option to Disable D-Pad lean and re-assign left and right directional buttons.
Ladder Climb less audible.
Round timer for 8x8 Medley decreased to 5 minutes.
Picking up the bomb prompt now has priority when a body is on top of the bomb.Added the ability to join directly into a friend's game off of the friend's list.

We'll have more information and details about the 1.50 update as the plans get finalized.

SOCOM: Confrontation Online Team

Excellent news - now all I need is some time to play the damn game.

The only problem with SOCOM is that it's just not 'pick-up and play', so if I'm going to play it I need a good few hours and I just never seem to have that in one go the last few months.

Oh well at least FUEL, which I picked up cheap a few days ago, meets those needs for now.

Fingers crossed work and travel will stop being so stupid in the near future.

Patch 1.80 is rumoured to come bundled with the Sony Micro cap......this Novel device in essence has a small microwave generator built into the top of the cap, The idea being, and from the brief reviews I've read, it makes it possible to play for 3 hours in the space of 60 seconds!

No it's not april........

Hola! I'm going to fire this up tonight, been caining COD4 for the past few days, but need a change of pace.

Is the clan still running?

Hasn't been - however I may have a bit of time on my hands later on (after 9) - so I may see you on-line.

Had some good practice matches with you last night Scaff, though you were not the Scaff I had become accustomed to!

At the start, you were pretty easy to find and kill. I wasn't saying that as an insult, but rather out of surprise, as you were always the hardest to find and kill. If you could of seen things from my perspective you would of laughed at how cautious I was!

I was constantly wondering where the hit was going to come from, but it never appeared. I wasn't sure if that was your plan, or maybe your tactics had changed. To be on the safe side though, I erred on the side of caution.

We traded a 'corner surprise' each at the start, and later you managed to get back into the swing of things. For me the last two round you played on Urban Wasteland was you at your 'where the **** are you?' best!

I got snagged by a shot from you, and somehow managed to survive, but could I figure from where? Could I hellers like! I spent the rest of that round walking around in circles half expecting to get dropped like a bad habit!

Classic stuff! 👍

My first round at Crossroads was utter rubbish, and the only thing I can put it down to is a lack of time spent on the game. Its been quite literally about two months that I have just not had the time to play, work has been madness and to start I was just breaking all my own rules.

Not my finest moment at all.

Now that was me waking up and remembering what I was doing, only moving in cover, moveing slow and covering all angles.

I must confess that you were lucky to escape on that encounter, I was tailing you around half that floor before I took my shot, and you moved at the last second. Picked you up a shot while later but couldn't get a clean shot in before the end of the round.

However you got me good on the round when we went head to head around the crates, that was fun.

Well I went back on Socom yesterday and was pleasantly surprised when I managed to catch up with Hereward and Wiggsy (who is Wiggsy on here?). We had a good little game going even if we did get beaten when we all got together. I'm still sticking with the same set up, medium armor, IW80 silenced and scoped, 552 silenced and scoped. However what I have been using more of is smoke grenades, they're really useful when you need to get out of a compromised location or distract an enemy.

Yeah nice catching up matey, just started playing this again heavily myself, there was me , you Wiggsy (not a GTP user) and Bigjizzy- who basicly picked up a PS3 on monday morning so we were nurse maiding around LOL considering we were all rusty we put up a good fight, and even won a few if I remember rightly. I was on last night with rob walker, hes just going through selection to the marines (UK) quite funny listening to him try and explain how to peperpot (moveing across open ground covering each other) I let him waffle for a bit then told him I was ex forces along with Jizzy (and Wiggsy) he was then hanging off our coat tails for the rest of the night, aww baby squadies LOL

Talking of Wiggsy, he's son is actualy in the marines and is a bit of a star theres a video of him getting shot in the rear at the bottom of this, quite funny, what was more funny was when I shot him 3 months later on an airsoft night shoot.....yep I shot him in the arse as well LOL

I wont post it directly on here, the links below. The language is a bit choice but the "mickey taking" is priceless when he gets to the rear position "can everyone stop getting shot" is priceless LOL

So I was the only one with no military experience in our little crew?

It was good fun though, hopefully I'll see you guys on maybe tomorrow or something, going out to see the girlfriend today. Also, I'm going to request if we set up a room, that it be 16 or more players allowed, 4 v 4 made for a frustrating game, where you'd move around not having a clue where the enemy is, then after 5 minutes of skulking around just get shot in the face before even spotting the enemy. I mean I'm all for tactics but in a small game is often feels like blind luck as to whether you'll run into them before being spotted. I also just can't see 4 v 4 soldiers occuring very often in a real combat situation which is why I prefer a larger game when you're never to far from danger. 32 is to many for respawn, is 24 possible? or something around there. (Oh and of course large maps like Crossroads, and that other open one we played in an urban environment with one dominated building in the centre and lots of wrecked cars around the edges).
