I think this "fail" could be made expressly, if we assume that tire choice is just a dificulty level(or level of simulation). That way, in online games you have to go pits in the same lap number with all tire choices. For example: If you can drive 10 laps with softs, medium should be 15 laps, and hards 20. (Random number of laps, just for descrive the idea) So in online, if you want to do a race with hards and one pit entry, you HAVE TO set the race in near 30 laps or more (to waste your 8 tires). And PD suposed that 30 laps are a lot of laps for normal online gamers. So normal and casual players never will enjoy the pit feature. And if hards were calculated for 10 laps, then softs should be for 5 lpas or less, and this isn't enough for PD's idea of online racing. This way a "normal" race should be about 10-15 minutes, and you don't need to do a "big" one if you want to "enjoy" pits. And if you want a "easy simulation" (i think softs has too much grip) you don't have to enter pits every 5 laps.
