Some observations on sounds in GT5

Seems like a few of the updates have attempted to improve sounds in GT5, and I think they are better after 2.02 personally. But did anyone notice that a while back, the 2.0 update seemed to negatively affect some car sounds? For example the Jaguar XJ13 and the Aston DB9 used to sound better I think. I say this because they were my favorite cars because of their sounds and they just don't seem the same anymore.

Also, anyone remember the Spyker in GT4? Had a great exhaust note and was a pretty beastly car for that matter. Now it's just awful! i wonder what happened? Which one is more true to life?

And lastly, since I've never heard anyone say anything about it before: More than a few different cars have the exact same exhaust and engine noises, especially standard race cars. I think the 69 Mustang Premium and the 89 Isuzu Concept sound the same when equipped with a racing exhaust. Oh, and a bunch of the standard cars have the same engine start sound clip. Doesn't bother me, just sayin...

Good observation friend. I noticed that too, and it is really annoying in my opinion. Wish I could know the differences between GT5 car sounds and real life sounds.

The further inclusion of the air sounds drowns out all the exhaust sound from hood view! Hs really encouraged me to use cockpit with volume maxed to get some nice sound.

The driving sound is better, but the REPLAY sound is suffering, theres a heavy Doppler effect, a sound of air swooshing, especially when the camera follows the car, the 599 before 2.0 had a crazy exhaust sound in replay mode, but after it just SWOOOOSHES, with a very synthetic sound, as do many other cars, but when im driving them they are fine.

I can compare it to putting your ear to a seashell, just like that.

Turn down the Doppler effect MIX and make it more dry PD!

I found another one: the Tank Car. Where did the sound go? And I seem to remember being able to modify that car before. Now, nothing. Can anyone back me up on this suspicion?

Since 2.02 it seems that your own car's sounds are extremely isolated by location. For at least some people(probably at least partly due to their speaker setup since it doesn't seem to be everyone) this has caused fome very odd and frustratingly bad sound issues in some cars.

PD doesn't seem to believe that engines actually make any noise, all the sound comes from the exhaust - a big part of why the sounds were wacky in the first place. When you add how isolated the sound is now that means cars with exhaust on one side only make sound mostly, or only, from one side. On others it seems that the exhaust is too far away and barely audible.

I really hope they understand that this has happened and fix it soon. The fact it wasn't addressed at all in 2.03 worries me, with luck they were just "too busy" or aren't sure yet how best to correct it.

Almost forgot: There are a few threads about this that can likely be found with a search.

Ahaa! Now I understand the logic of the 787b engine sound being placed in the right surround speaker only.

I have noticed more isolation to the sounds depending which view you are in... It has enhanced.. But fare as sounds of the engine fading to one side no, but i can tell you how my system is set up... I have a Sony bravia 5.1 surround sound system and i have a digital audio out cable from it directly to the PS3.. And i don't notice any problems... On of my friends however sets his system up differently than me and he has the same stereo. He has his HD tv running the digital audio out cable running from it to his stereo and the sound comes out from his PS3 from the HDMI cable. Which he has notice a lot of the problems that you guys are having... Try how i set my system up see if it works for you... Good luck i hope it does. :)
