I have some questions on the X1.

1) The X1's wheels are enclosed, how do they change the tyres on the car in a pit stop? The fact that you can't see outside of a Premium car makes it much harder to work out.

2) The X1 has no wipers, I just tried driving in the rain with other X1s at Circuit De La Sarthe, I couldn't see anything. How do you race in the rain?

The wheel caps are removed at the same time when removing the wheel.

If you watched the last F1 seasons (forbidden in 2010) you would have seen it.

Just look on youtube for 2009 pit stop or something.

1) Go look up footage of a pitstop of one of the old Jaguar Group C era cars, XJR-9 IIRC. There is your answer, real car that had enclosed rear wheels.

2) Rain X ftw.

Any serious answers for question one?

Well since you can only use the cockpit view when you pit, how should anyone be able to tell you the answer with any degree of certainty? We have to use the cockpit view as well you know :)

But for realism and rain effects you need to use interior mode, is there any way at all to even race in the rain using interior?

I guess you aren't supposed to be using the car in the rain in reality, hence the missing wipers

Well its a video game and its a fictional car so I guess theres no good answer to question 1.

For question 2, i find that very disapointing ....

There was a picture some where here.
A poster pointed out, with proof, that in the Premium Ferrari F1 nothing was lifting the car, it was just floating in the air whilst it had it's tyres changed.

The AI seems to be coping quite well :(

Couldn't find anything for that.

How about entering a race, drive into the pits on the first lap, quit and then watch the replay??

They are probably using bumper cam...

But in any view, it automatically switches to interior view.
For all Premium cars.

XJR12. My bad, not good with the Jaguars of that era. You can clearly see the rear wheels are enclosed, IE not visible. Yet, obviously they exist.

How did they change them? Quick release handles IIRC (Might have been screws, not sure). That panel would pop off, allowing access to the tire to switch it out. Granted, pitstops in Endurance Racing has always been more time consuming, there is never going to be a 4 second pitstop for tires.

I'm sure someone could find a replay of a pitstop, though that may be more difficult than assumed.

Plus, for some time now it's been mandated at LM to shut the engine off while fueling and no other work can be done at the same time. Perhaps the X1 is playing off of a similar idea to make it logically work.

Who knows what series that car is "running" in, maybe pit stops aren't required. Maybe there is a minimum time for a pit stop that negates need for speed in the pits? Who knows, use your imagination.

Ah, okay, thanks for that.

Another weird thing is, you can look left and right in a pit stop.
And in an X1, you can just see the top of the left and right front tyres.
Now when you pit stop, and the tyres are changed, the tyres that you can see aren't removed...

After Polyphony put in all that hard work for the Pit Stop animations...
With some cars - try watching the FGT pitstop. The fuel guy looks like he's just pouring fuel over the back of the car. Could be a little dangerous! :)

Yeah, I noticed that too, the fuel hose is floating above the car...

Was able to take a picture through the pit wall on a created course, the tyres don't seem to get replaced. And as someone already said, you can see this from cockpit view as well, since you can see the tyres. They just stay in place, but the pit crew still changes them with the same animation as on any other car though. There also aren't any panels on the tyres that are on the ground, or the ones the other pitcrew is holding. It's getting pretty clear why PD doesn't want us to see what's going on around our car while having a pitstop. :p

Have seen a cockpit cam in the rain with the X1, all the air rushing past throws the rain off the windscreen, and the visability is only just less than in any other car. It's a nice feature and really cool to watch.
