In regards to PS3 I heard Xmas 2005, but as we all know, that will probably mean only the lucky few will get their hands on them then, and that March 2006 is more likely.
2009? what are you smoking, because I want it. Do you honestly think that Sony woudl wait the best part of a decade to release the next phase of their concole. I think not.
Anyway, I'm still waiting for open use of the HD, I'm not prepared to buy the FFX11 kit and I'm not planning doing it unofficially. I just want to throw my memory cards away!!!

Also I agree with JAGUAR and the comment on the PS1 still selling as a budget concole. It woudl be interesting how low PS2 will go when PS3 comes out.

L1ama
but ps3 will come out in 2009, im gonna have to wait 5 years now for the next gt....
The PS3 will be out in a couple of years, not in 2009.

Yeah I heard in 2006 and around 600-800+ bucks for a higher model and 250+ for lower not sure what this means though.

Do you think the price will range due to extra's, e.g. HD already installed and internet connector. Rather than anything to do with graphics and such.

Anyone think there will be 4 controler ports on the PS3? Or that Sony make enough selling multi-taps?

Anyone who believes that the PS3 is comming out in 2009 is crazy, Microsoft and Nintendo would slaughter Sony in sales while they are developing the PS3, which means losing essential deals with software developers that make certain games Sony console only (GTA series, GT, MGS, etc). Holding back the PS3 that long would be Sony shooting themselves in the foot in the console wars.

As for the differing prices, I have no idea what a 600-800 dollar PS3 would have. I bet that a normal PS3 would market for 300-500 dollars though, that's what most consoles seem to go for in their early life. I also wouldn't be surprised to see it have 4 controller ports since that's the way Microsoft and Nintendo have gone.

The PS3 technology will be intergrated into a number of products.

The $600-800 PS3 is likely to be a PS3 with intergrated HDD/DVD recorder or something similar.

All versions of the PS3 will have the same core specification, with the more expensive versions having addes, non game related features.

It would be so f'cking expensive , 600-800$!!
I hope Sony is thinking abou the prices beacuse it would be insane.

Nizar1980, would it be possible for you to scan the whole article please? Personally I would also like to read it.

I would say 2006 is where the good money is for the ps3 release. And i would say price point won't be much different then ps2 at it's release $4-500 CDN (so about 3-400 US?)

Thank you to everyone for establishing that from what we've heard the PS3 will launch around 2006. Why we had to reiterate that message no fewer than 15 times I can't quite figure out. I'm not even going to go into the speculation about different models with different options. The day consoles become like cars there's not going to be much point buying consoles anymore.

Anyway, scan the Delta pic if you can be bothered, assuming you have a scanner. If not, oh well, I'm sure IGN will pick it up as original content sometime soon.

The drive will be the Blu-ray V2 that Sony have been developing in a joint venture with other electronic manufactures. It will not have a hard drive, because the Blu-ray can store things straight to disc. It can even save game data straight to disc, so no need for a memory card, but it will have one. Possibly rated at 256MB, or even higher.

Oh, one thing about the Blu-ray, no more need for a separate laser assembly. One laser, and one lens is all it needs. Unlike the PS2, which is why the damn thing has so many DREs.

My god, there has been such a drought of GT4 news I dont know how much longer I can hold out!! :scared:

I just hope that PS3 really comes out in 2006, and that all the consoles, the PS3, X-Box 2, and cube 2 will all be on par to prevent console wars about what console is more powerful and which one has the best graphics. The only difference that there should be between the consoles is the library of games and that is it.

As for GT5 on PS3 :dunce: we will all be blown away.

No consoles will ever nor should ever feature identical hardware - it detracts from competition and advancement. Unless you're some kind of pinko o_O The ATI nVidia war has done great things, so has Sony vs Microsoft vs Nintendo vs Sega. If anyone is shallow enough to just judge games on their graphics then they're stupid, end of story.

Well with that said ^^^^^^ i guess PS3 will have to be the most powerfull out of the three systems :sly:

I just don't want a huje difference between them like PS2 and X-Box now, even though PS2 came out 2 years earlier and still manages to look as good as some games on the X-Box. The Cube is just out of the question, for me it is just a non existing console.

Even if the PS3 doesn't have the most powerful system (like now with the PS2) it's still going to win on the fan base scale. IMO it has better games and just as good graphics as any system (pc not included). And as for the Cube, it's more of a kid's based console, a more affordable option for your basic five year old. It's really not out of the question, and does just as well as sony's PS2 does (in terms of expectations). You don't see many FPS's on the cube, more like zelda and mario games. That's what it was built for, not to be the most powerful expensive hardware-console.

It doesnt matter if each console is excatly the same, someone will still claim "their" system is the best.

That's true. The PS3 doesn't have better games yet - it has none as far as we know.

The PS2 and GameCube go after different markets, but Nintendo were quite innovative for a while - who were the first people to produce an online capable console? Nintendo hasn't kept up with the times and they're suffering as a result. As more and more products tow the "Convergence" line, dedicated one-role-only machines will become more and more redundant.

I'd say we're sufficiently far off topic for this thread to be locked, too.

An added thing about the Gamecube is that it so far has not been cracked... (Unlike PS2 and Xbox) so people can't actually copy games for it... which I think is an amazing acheivement for a console maker.

I know many people that have an XBOX and just download games off of the web cut them onto a DVD and bobs your uncle.

Their proprietary disc format certainly helps them with the piracy problem, but not being able to play DVDs has been more of a hinderence. Which costs more - a few million dollars of piracy or only having 5% market share?
