I was surfing the web yesterday evening, and turned it off like usual. I then turned it back on because I'd forgotten to do something, ejected the UMD like usual so the game doesn't load, and this weird screen appeared. It contained many languages, but I didn't see English there but I'm not too sure because I wasn't paying a lot of attention. A moment later, the PSP restarted itself, and it had forgotten everything, my background, date, time, name, internet connections etc. Everything saved on the memory stick was fine, the saved games, videos and pictures, but the other stuff had dissapeared.

Is there any explanation for this? I don't see how I corrupted it if that's the case.

Hmmmm, I've never heard of it, but that could be the case. I was browsing GTP and another forum that I know very well at the time, so I doubt a virus could come from them, though, so I doubt it.

Edit: I've just done some searching on Google on my case, but I haven't found anything...

Probably one of those little quirks you see from time to time.

Its not the trojan visrus thing. That isnstanly kills your psp and it wont boot at all.

If anything it does that after you update the firmware or repairs the firmware. you must have paniced and missed the english text because its on psp's when the firmware updates of repairs.

Or were you doing somethung naughty with your psp.

I wasn't updating the Firmware or reparing it, the screen was different to that. I've been waiting for 3.0 for ages anyway.

I would have said if I did anything naughty to the PSP, because this thread would be useless otherwise.

As GTRacer said, it may have been a quirk.

Wow. Nobody knows what this is? I've gotten it several times, and apparently you didn't look closely, because the blue screen clearly says "Settings data is corrupted, press O to restore default settings." It's a minor glitch that occasionally happens, and is nothing to worry about. The only thing that is annoying about it is you have to recconnect to a WiFi point to restore the ability to play WMA files.

EDIT: The best way to avoid this issue, BTW, is to quit the internet browser before shutting the PSP off or putting it to sleep. I believe the settings data gets corrupted when the PSP's RAM is quickly cleared, like when several pages are cached in the browser and the PSP is suddenly powered down. Hope this helps. ;)

So its a web brower thing as I've had mine for 10 months and never seen the screen or used the browser very long or much at all.

Indeed. I use the web browser all the time and turn it off when it's still active and has never happened before. It's undertandable though. At least it isn't anything fatal, so I'm happy. :)

Thats good to here, settings arent really a big deal. i didnt even know they rest after i updated (finally) to play SFA3.

GT I got that same screen but; my psp never turned on again. When I switch it on i get the green on light and the screen stays off. :indiff:

Ouch. You bricked it. No idea how, unless you were fooling around with homebrew that had kernal access (PSPSet or something like that?) I'd say send it back to Sony and explain that it won't turn on.

Yeah.

Been a while since the last update too. Hopefully 3.0 will be out soon, but I'm not putting my hopes up.

@ LancerEVO_fan: Wow. Sounds like that the PSP was bricked. :( As HondaRacer said, were you doing anything specific at the time before it happened?

yea the first time this happened i thought something very serious had happened but the found out that it was pretty common. Also if you notice this usually happens when you have low battery life.

Isn't that actually the blue screen of death? read here
Yep, that's it. I wouldn't call it the screen of "death" though. Just re-set the settings that were reset and you're off again. Should only take 10 minutes.

I know what it is cause I've had it many times before, you have either:
1)held the off/on switch on for too long
2)when you turned it off it was stil loading
3)ALWAYS take your UMD out before you switch it on

It's a system restore,"corrupt data and the system needs to restore default settings",you dont lose any data you just have redo your wallpaper and network connection settings:tup:

And yes it is the blue screen, not of death though, just always appearing on v.2.6

yeah if your PSP is bricked you're pretty much screwed in ways of fixing it. i heard some developments of people using the remote thingy for changing songs and changing its plug into functioning like a serial port, perhaps allowing flashing of the firmware. the other thing is the modchip they released. but you have to have a specific version of the PSP in order to use it and it's 100$. but with this you can have dual boot firmware, such as a 2.8 and a 1.5 and a boot choice between the two.

Something similiar happened to me when I first bought my PSP, I was like "WTF" and after a few minutes of punching my pillow, I turned the PSP off somehow, when I restarted it, it was back to normal, albeit some settings being reset
