I was not aware that the clutch actually did anything? ( I'm new to all this) Do you have to set it up on your playstation to make it operater? I have a PS2.
yea me to!! it just makes me feel like im really driving that certain car. Another question though my best lap is 2:21.5 in the suzuka 550 RWD (RX-7) event and i use interior view with the clutch and H pattern shift. How are you guys times with the wheel on suzuka.

I've done 2:16:7s with my Clio using the clutch and H-pattern.
I use the H-pattern all the time since my paddles are set to my e-brake(yea I drift) and for the cars that have the clutch I use it most of the time, depends on if I'am lazy.
I drive each car the way it is set up. F430 I use Paddle shifters, TVR Speed Six I use H shifter and Clutch, so on and so on.
Sure G25s shifter might feel unrealistic, but I molded my to have extra strengths, so NOW it feels really good. Only thing missing is Realistic CLUTCH pressures both on the G25 setup and GT5P setup.
I try to use the g25 setup the way it is in the real car, minus moving the shifter to the left and right sides.
I drive with the clutch and H pattern all the time including online racing.
The only time i use paddles is if the car was manufactured that way ie Evo X, R 35 GTR.
I agree the shifter doesn't have a great feel but i feel more immersed in the game when using it and the clutch.
The only other time i don't use the clutch is in GTP events when it is not allowed like the WRS for example....
+1 i know many people say the clutch and the shifter its not like a real car and i agree with them, but still its a game im just thankful its has the the ability to have a clutch and shifter i just dont feel right driving a car that has a 5 speed or 6 speed with paddle shifters. please dont take this the wrong way anybody this is just the way i feel. Anyway i def want to have you as my friend my online race name JDM 313
Having a six speed shifter knob with a five speed box is a bit strange,i use the paddles not many cars come with a sequential shifter.
Unfortunately, there's minimal benefit (if any) to proper heel and toeing in GT5P since the transmission auto-blips for you, and there's no option to turn it off. It's still quite immersive to do so, but GT5P isn't the game to learn it in. Perhaps GT5:Full will provide deeper options for those of us who enjoy the clutch pedal.Trust me, take the effort to learn it in real life and in GT5P. You'll feel so much more at one with your machine, virtual or otherwise.

The transmission does not auto blip for you when you use the 6 speed shifter with the clutch activated.
I think what he meant was there should be some consequences in GT5P for bad downshifting.
If there were some options for blown over-revved engines, grinding gear syncros or AT LEAST wheel lockup, that would be the perfect incentive.
It's so annoying how some of my friends downshift BEFORE braking and get away with it.
For me its simple. Since the use of the clutch pedal is not needed when using the H-shifter i render it useless. I paddle.
When i first made my little wheel/shifter stand i put a shifter post on BOTH sides of it. This way when i play with a JDM/RHD car i would put the shifter on the appropriate side. When playing with the Blitz skyline or RSX i would put the shifter on the left side, when using the corvette or Bmws, i would put it on the Right hand side.
Now in the Factory GTR race, i actually used the h-pattern shifter AND the clutch (even though it does nothing). But thats because of my own personal preference. I'm in love with the R34 GTR, when the new one came out DSG i was very disapointed. I KNOW it can shift faster than a human can, but it's just not the same expereience IMO without a clutch and shifter.

P.S whats wit old flag BMFan
What do you mean "the clutch does nothing" ??
I use whatever gearbox the car I'm driving comes with in real life. Always use the clutch for H shifter too.
I'm also obsessive enough to move my shifter around for LHD and RHD depending on the car.
If you think heel & toe is tough, wait till you try it on both LHD and RHD. But forcing myself to learn for a few days made me comfortable with both sides now.
I heel & toe in my real car anyway. No doubt sequential is easier, but the H shifter + clutch is so much more rewarding. Isn't that why we all bought a G25 to begin with??
On a related note, I'm kinda bummed that more and more new cars are coming out with dual clutch sequential systems. Even the new 370z comes with an auto-blip feature that makes everyone a heel & toe hero. True manuals will soon be extinct. Or at least old-fashioned.
I trained myself for months to heel & toe with nothing but my car and a ton of Best Motoring videos. It's a rite of passage every driving enthusiast should go thru. Right now, it's more of a dying art.

In the gtr and the evo X the clutch does nothing.
