...I'm the proud new owner of gtplanet.com! Since first registering gtplanet.net more than six years ago, I've tried to take control of the .com domain name from the now-defunct Asian toy retailer ("Gifts and Toys Planet") that originally used it. Thanks to archive.org, you can see previous versions of the site here. Despite the lack of a website at that location, they refused to respond to my requests to buy it from them. They finally let the domain name expire last month, and I was able to win it in a very exciting auction held by the name's registrar last week. Not surprisingly, it was a very popular auction with domain speculators who saw a great opportunity, but I was the high bidder when it mattered. :D

For the record (and to prevent any confusion), our site address is NOT changing. We still are and will always be found at gtplanet.net. Now, however, you can also access the site by simply typing in www.gtplanet.com in your address bar, or by typing "gtplanet" and pressing CTRL + Enter in your web browser. The address is also completely dynamic, so the .com will be replaced by .net no matter what else you type in. For example, going to www.gtplanet.com/forum will instantly direct you to www.gtplanet.net/forum. :)

Very cool Jordan, I know you've been wanting to get a hold of that domain name for a while now.

P.S. go to the Premo Forum

Yay! :D Good on ya for finally snatching up that elusive SOB. I bet you still have nightmares about all the traffic lost when that one magazine printed gtplanet.com instead of gtplanet.net.

That's cool!

Congratulations! So.. you've got .com, .net and .org now. Nice. :)

Way to go man!

I did not know that.

Congratulations, Jordan. Way to go! 👍 Auction with that much on the line must've had your heart pumping! :D

Congratulations Jordan!!! Well now GTPlanet is going to be more famous now.....well at least to me :D So how much did you bid for the name? Must have been a lot isn't it.

Awesome Jordan!

Congrats!

Well done, Jordan. :)

I know how important .com is, but I still think .net is cooler.

This thread brings back memories of how GTPlanet.net started. A domain for your birthday, wasn't it?...

Cool stuff, I remeber as a new member before realising it was .net I couldn't remeber the address, I kept entering .com I think it can only help, .nets cool enough though I am glad it is staying .net and .com only redirects you.

Damn, i used to love Gifts and Toys Planet too :grumpy:

👍 Awesome, that's great news!

Congrats, man! I hope it wasn't too expensive. Fortunately I've seen an increase in Premium users (at least active in the premium forums) so hopefully that helped.

You aren't the only one who has done that! Before I made this announcement, I directed the domain to an interim page to see just how many people were actually going there. According to the statistics, around 50 people every day typed in the incorrect name. We've been losing more than 1500 visitors every month!

You are correct - without the support of the Premium members, such a purchase for the site would have been out of my reach. All of you guys deserve a huge round of thanks for helping make gtplanet.com a reality! :)

Thanks and all but spill the beans already. How much did it cost you?:sly:

That's cool!

.gov might be a little difficult to get:scared:
But seriously, that's great news to hear. No doubt this will increase the community with more people who have heard of GTPlanet, but didn't know it was .net instead of the conventional .com. Now 1,000,000 members doesn't sound as crazy as before.
Regardless, great job Jordan:tup:

Speaking of incorrect adresses, a few days ago I incorrectly entered www.gtplant.net

Imposter site?

Its a domain squatter, taking up names that are similar in some way to a popular site, and putting up slightly relevant links to the subject of the popular site, usually through a search engine the company owns. They might contain spyware and such though.

gtplanet.biz? :p

Congratulations Jordan! I know you’ve been agonising over that domain going to waste for years now. Good stuff. 👍

You mean this isn't the Gifts and Toys Planet Forum? Damn you, I have been duped!

Well done on the purchase Jordan. One more step on the quest for total GT world domination.
