Why can't PD create a website similar to this one:

http://www.sonicthehedgehog4.co.uk/en/

They appear to be publishing new content based on a countdown with several areas locked until the current countdown have completed. Of course a GT5 website will not be as cartoony, but this method will stop any complaints from us fans as we will then know when a new bit of content is going to be published. It may, as McLaren suggested be an image of one of their cars a day - with 1000 cars, they could delay the game until 2012!

the count-downs could be for a number of things, like:-
car images/anouncements,
approved track names,
teasers that leave us guessing about the game and open up discussion/excitement on the forums - everyone loves catchphrase, what about something like that with GT5!
new trailers,
game features,
GT TT news,
etc

There would be a hell of a lot of damage control with this method as they only seem to be causeing damage to themselves at the moment with the hype they created and then backed sheepishly out of. I hope PD read the comments on this website by the way, as it would be arrogant not to. If they do, why don't they post anything! I still remember one blogger for playstation home called 'tedthedog' who was constantly quelling the anger that home was crap in the first stages as well as teasing updates to keep fans engaged. he spoke to the users on their level and apologised about delays and bugs etc etc, that's why he stuck in my mind. Anyone else agree with this, or anyone else rememver tedthedog?

I like the idea of revealing 1 car a day till launch. Maybe a track every week till launch too. This would have been great marketing which explains why it probably won't happen.

I think they are doing ok as is. The odd bone here and there, and then surprise me! I don't want to have seen everything before I get to play it.

And if they started now it might just drop nicely around the time of the actual release!

PD obviously have more important things to do than to satisfy your pathological need for instant gratification.

i don't think you quite got it 'interludes' the whole point in count downs is to build up hype, so people wait for a point in time, not 'instant gratification' which i'm sure nobody has experienced from you. personal, but to the point.

Play nicely chaps or I will have to drag out the 'mod-stick', I'm sure you can both discuss a subject without resorting to personal digs (and should you fail to do so I can address that).

Ozybolairy - you are new here, and given the state of most forums on the web its an easy point to miss, GT Planet requires that basic grammar is used when posting and that does include the use of capital letters at the start of sentences, for nouns and the letter 'I'. It may sound like a minor things, but it does forum part of the AUP and helps keep post easy to read for all our members (particularly those for whom English is a second language).

Thanks

Well if you're gonna buy it they have nothing to do to convince you. Think further than yourself, some people might want to see if their favorite car or track is in etc

What if they showed a little squiz of something like a headlight from a much wanted car (musn't say Porsche, musn't say Porsche) or an interior vent. Or maybe a corner from a famous track.

Or Tokyo

i don't think you quite got it 'interludes' the whole point in count downs is to build up hype, so people wait for a point in time,
Actually, I understood the point perfectly. But I see no need to build up the hype; the series is more than capable of that on its own. And give Kaz's notorious reputation as an eternal perfectionist, it's likely that a release date countdown would only be changed.

And why ruin the surprises for everyone just for the sake of marketing hype?

not 'instant gratification' which i'm sure nobody has experienced from you. personal, but to the point.
You know what they say about people who resort to personal insults on the internet (aside from the moderators telling you not to do it)? It means they've run out of ideas to back their original argument up and have to resort to pithy and unoriginal comebacks because they think that if they can scare the person away, it means they win the argument - even if they've just seen it torn into confetti. It goes without saying that the sooner they do it, the worse their original argument was in the first place, or that they have problems with accepting criticisms of their own ideas (it is something of an internet phenomena that people seem to think that all their ideas are right and that everyone will instantly agree with them simply because they're posting it). Either way, what you say speaks volumes about what kind of person you are, and I didn't even need to lift a finger.

Come back when you're worthy.

I remember tedthedog, he provided alot of useful info for people who were looking forward to Home.

That said, GT is an established franchise and Home was an intersting idea, proven a failure.

As much noise as 'new members' are making both here in the forum and out on the front news page, PD doesn't have any reason to do anything differently.

GT will be a success, regardless of what we know about it at this moment.

Come back when you're worthy.

You hear that... it's the sound of one hand clapping.

Glad someone else remembers tedthedog.

The point of the countdowns on the sonic website is not to count down to the release of the game, but to count down to the release of new information - such as the list I provided in my original post. Sega have announced that the game will be available to download in summer, not giving such a narrow window as GT5 orignally gave (end of march for Japan).

The countdown would quel any petty comments, such as the original one I received from interludes, (and my mature reaction to this comment!), which in a way was the whole point of this thread. So thanks go to interludes for providing an example. If there were countdowns, we wouldn't spend time on this forum making up nonsence and we would feed into this forum on a specific date that we receive a new screenshot etc etc and the discussions are most likely to be more about the new information we've just seen rather than rehashes of old conversations (any one want to add anything about skidmarks or 2d trees?)

I hope you enjoyed my grammar in this post. If my dyslexia wasn't enough to worry about!

There are many words, but this is not an argument. I don't say i'm right, I have an opinion which you can agree with or come up with a reasonable comment about why you don't agree with it.

PD obviously have more important things to do than to satisfy your pathological need for instant gratification.
is not a reasonable comment.

next time, try starting your reply with 'I agree because...' or 'I disagree because...' you'll find it works for a better conversation.

is not a reasonable comment.
You're free to discuss whether or not someone's comments are reasonable when you can convince us all that you yourself have never made a comment that could be considered unreasonable by others. We already know you haven't, so that sound you can hear is the crashing of the glass house as it falls to the ground around you.

The reason why I commented the way I did was because your idea reeked of impatience. With the release of GT5 drawing nearer, but still largely up in the air, there has been a trend whereby people posting have been making a grab for content, wanting to see anything and everything they can rather than exerting a bit of patience. I remember waiting for the release of GT2, and all the information we really got was a preview and two interviews in an issue of the Official Playstation Magazine. That was it. So you'll forgive me if I think you do indeed have a pathological need for instant gratification - it's because your behaviour speaks to an I-want-I-want-I-want mentality.

There. I've justified my comments. You're free to justify your ones about my personal life whenever you like.

OK - It was quite simple. I asked both of you to stop with the personal digs and I promised you both I would take action if you failed to do so.

So congratulations, the thread gets locked and you both will find an official warning in your PM box.

Next time do not take polite advise from the staff so lightly.

I hope you enjoyed my grammar in this post. If my dyslexia wasn't enough to worry about!

My wife works as a teacher with kids with dyslexia and the grammatical errors in your posts are not a factor of dyslexia at all, add in the fact that your entire post history shows no dyslexic traits at all and you will find I'm not impressed by this comment.

See the section of the AUP that deals with intentionally miss-leading posts.
