Sonic Boom!

Thats crazy! The plane is so close too, I can only imagine how many people went home with bleeding airs that day. :scared:

yeah it looks close to the sound barrier but not passed it,650+ easily but not over the sound barrier.too many people too close too.

p.s. EUROfighters louder :D

I don't think he actually broke the sounds barrier in that video, it sounds like it's only the sounds from the jet engines. You also don't see the white "cone" around the plane. Example: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3501912064918936997&q=sound+barrier
Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me but I'm sure I see the white "cone" there for a second.
Though it does seem like the jet just appears out of thin air in the beginning.

Also reminds me of this...

It is a sonic boom - and you can see the vapor cloud as the plane goes supersonic right after the guy says "hold on, hold on, hold on" or whatever he says.

The vapor cloud doesn't always occur - it depends on the humidity of the air, and it isn't only related to going supersonic. High-performance airplanes often get little vapor trails at their wingtips during violent maneuvers, caused by local increases in air pressure and vortices off the wings.

But what causes the sound itself?? I looked at it a few more times and TO ME, it looks as if its the sound of the jet, catching up in a rush, and the end result is in that expolsion sound, or is it something else??

It's moving so fast that the disturbance it creates made an exploding sound. Any time something reaches the sound barrier, it will make a sonic boom. The plane traveling by created the sound, and then the explosion itself created its own sonic boom due to its rapid expansion.

dam so its expanding at a rapid rate then...good stuff. Never knew about this and now I do. Very compeling if you ask me. It still amazes me though how loud it is.

found another one :D
you can see the shockwaves on the water and it appears to be almost the same hight as the first one which makes me believe that one isnt super sonic and i dont think this is ether as the plane is still too close to the sound, usually from what i remember from seeing tornados and eurofighters(my dads in the raf) the planes are usually a good second at least passed before you hear the sounds, where as at 600+ the plane is right on the sound as in they videos the plane passes at the same time you hear the sound.

enjoy anyway :D

You can see little vapor clouds when watching a F1 race. But only when its humid on raceday.

That's true, due to the fact that the air is denser when there is water suspended in it.

Anyway, A sonic boom is a darn sight mor eimpressive when seen in person. As for the volume, imagine someone popping a baloon right next to your ear drum. Make it a little louder, and there you have it.

ive heard one in person in the outher banks in north carolina... there is some kind of base down there and a few years ago me and my dad were sitting out on the beach and we see some kind of fighter jet (dont know much about planes) wizz past and then like trailing behind like a second was an eardrum shattering BOOM!!! it was defining.... and at a soldiers funerial i knew a few jets flew over the church and made a loud boom but not too loud.... so idk
