SONY why are you doing this?

For some time now the Australian dollar has been more valuable than the US Dollar, recently it has maintained a steady ratio of 1:1.03 (AUD:USD).

Yet we are discriminated against in DLC pricing! Why?!

Car Pack 3 $5.99 USD = $5.77 AUD = 3.91 GBP = $7.49 NZD = 4.70 EUR = current exchange rates

But what the do you actually charge us?

Car Pack 3 $5.99 USD = $8.45 AUD = 4.79 GBP = $11.5 NZD = 5.99 EUR = illogical

Now if they explained 'oh, well we had to do more work, all your models are RHD, and there was local taxes that the US government doesn't charge' you know, some DISCLAIMER SOMEWHERE, I might understand.

As it stands, this is an outrage, I bought my Car Pack 2 at rip off prices, you're not getting another cent from me until you explain yourselves SONY.

Firstly, discrimination is a strong word.

Secondly, I could be wrong on this, but stuff in Australia is more expensive than elsewhere in the world, right?
 
It's because everything in Australia is ridiculously expensive. I'm sure the initial cost of the game itself was higher as well.

While you're working out prices of products based on exchange rates do that with a car, any car that's sold both in the US and Australia.
 
You could always try calling Sony Corp and ask politely. I'm sure theres a legitimate reason.

Yep, all new PS3/XBox games here cost $100+. Most go down to ~$80 after a couple of months. In defence of that, working some dead:censored: retail job here will get you ~$20/hr

The higher cost of the DLC must be Sony charging us shipping to get it all the way to Australia :dopey:

But yes, we get screwed on prices for all internationally made products. Check out IKEA prices between EU/US/AU if you really want a scare.

My guess is that the price difference reflects the difference in cost of doing business in the various countries. Of course, this is only speculation, but rarely does the final cost of a product come down to the exact price of the product itself with no taxation.

Also Purchasing Power Parity is usually just a concept. Rarely does one see it actually practiced to the point that if something costs $5 USD it will also cost $5 USD in Japan.
 
It is quite interesting though. When Car Park 2 was released the news section of GT5 stated the price at around $5.60 when really it was around $7.
 
Peugeots are crap as in Australia, we used to own a 307 touring and the gearbox and engine broke down by 10,000 km Plus when we traded it in it the following month the place we traded it into said that the gearbox had gone bust again

But they let us keep the money

In short, unless you live in Europe, don't buy a Peugeot

Population Australia 22,421,417

Australia holds a -17 valuation of the local currency against the dollar in %
for the basic reason you have a very low population. It's not PD or Sony boys and girls, but simple economics. We have more and buy more so things in general cost less.
 
Don't forget all the taxes we have in Australia. We are the highest taxed nation in the world (and New South Wales is the highest taxed state in Au. so lucky me!!) so I think the extra cost over the USD is based on a 10% GST on everything that crosses our border!! Blame the Australian government not just Sony (though I imagine they still make a pretty tidy profit from it)

Sorry, I don't mean to start brand war, I was just curious about it, I quite like the design of peugeuot and the interior are pretty nice with chrome bits and wood.

There is the reason right there. Things probably wouldn`t change until our $1au gets to around $1.50us. ( $1 aus dollar buys $1.50us )
 
Here in New Zealand we have to pay way more than everyone else for dlc! oh well still going to get the dlc once it's released here :/

Yes, but that is due to a variety of taxes, there should be no difference for an online product such as this.

I'm disappointed at the price difference, but Sony are by no means the only offenders in this regard!

Sure is, you gotta factor in shipping price as it cost quite a bit to load the DLC onto container ships for the long haul down here, then add import tax and transportation costs to deliver the DLC to your local PN distributor :rolleyes

We get screwed on everything, our dollar goes above the US and we still pay more for our imported goods. Just can't win, if it's not the importers screwing us, it'll be the government doing it
