Brand: Sony
Make: S-Video AV Upgrade
Category: Audio/Visual Cable Upgrades
Price: $9.99 on sale @ SamGoody's

Wow. Just wow guys. I never thought it was possible to get a picture this clear on my PS2. The biggest difference I have seen so far with it was with GT4. I popped in the disc, started it up and immedietly noticed better picture quality in the menu/text. I go to my garage and view my '99 Dodge Viper GTS-R and wow. It was the most beautiful thing my PS2 has ever shown me. I'm finding myself distracted now on my 43" TV while im staring at the detail of my car. My Pelican Xbox S-Video cables cannot compare in any way. The difference is amazing: From Nascar '06: Total Team Control to Gran Turismo 5, it's all great. Before people start critisizing game developers for poor quality in their games, play it on S-Video. It will show you what the game was MEANT to look like (Color Stream on a Toshiba TV is really THE best you can get over S-Video). I highly reccomend buying this if you can spare the S-Video port.

Wait till you see games with component hookups. ;)

Yep, mine is hooked up through component... Much better than anything an S-Video cable is going to give you...

;)

Just remember...

Component > S-video

If you think S-Video looks good, then get component cables. You'll be blown away.

:indiff: Just don't get generic versions. :banghead:

edit: Will your GT4 photomode/travel pics improve with a component cable as well?

No, I've experimented with my S-Video. It just improves TV image quality.

Component video cables will indeed increase the photo picture quality (as you see it on the TV screen), as it seperates the video signal into 3 seperate signals, which stops the colors bleading together... This gives you a much clearer sharper image, and truer colors...

;)

And you're saying this because of experience? Oh well... I don't feel it's worth it still... I'd rather wait for the PS3 and then do it.

And my question remains unanswered...

Maybe if you asked a coherant question...

If your TV supports component inputs, all you need is to buy a PS2 component cable set (around $20 to $40)

Component cables are as follows:

Audio: red/white
Video: red/blue/green (as opposed to the RCA single yellow for video)

;)

That is what i use, through a scart adapter in the back of my big tv, or the inputs at the front of my small tv. Is this really better than the other ways. I have always used it so i can't be sure.

*edit* i missunderstood. I only have the yellow video port. If my TV does not support these inputs, is there a scart adapter available. And if so, will it be noticeable on an old 17" or 21" tv?

This thread actually has a lot of helpful information about s-video AND component cables. I did the swap to svideo and your right amazing difference. However, on friday I will be doing the component swap so I will be anxious to see how well that works on my new HD tv (that I still have to get friday 12/9/05)
I believe component cables are red, blue, and green. Dont get them confused with the old school composite cables that are red, white, and yellow.

Well I did ask a coherant question, so don't say I didn't.

I already solved my question before I got any hint of help, so thanks anyways.

I know you are but what am I?...

Seriously though, drop the immature nonsense... Everyone in this thread was trying to help you... Sorry you can't see that... Well, glad you solved the problem anyway, even though you dropped the cash for an S-video when you probably could have gone with a component set (unless your TV doesn't support it, of course)...

Have a nice day...

Is teh Component the same as a RGB Scart slot on my TV?
I think they are different.

Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable :

Digital AV Cable - SCART (Xbox 360) :

Component >- SCART >- S-Video >- AV

Where did this come from? Immature nonsense? I am speaking of the truth. I didn't get a hint of help from anybody, not even an asking of clarfification of my question. I wouldn't have dropped the cash for an S-Video cable if I would have KNOWN component was better. The "problem" wasn't which I should get, I had already bought the S-Video (ergo: first post). I just wanted to know if a person needed special slots to use compinent, and I already found this out.

Oh really?...

That looks like someone asking for clarification to me...

If your question was easy to understand you would have had many people answering your question... Since it was not (and since you neglected to answer the aforementioned members question of clarification) it was not answered... You then proceeded to act like an immature boob, and pout about it... (your title says it all)...

You've figured it out yourself?... Great!... Drop it...

Here's a recap... Component > S-Video... End of story... If your TV does not support Component video, then your S-video purchase was the way to go...

Have a nice day...

Ok ok... so I'm an idiot. Apparently my (non-genuine ps2) Component cable does work it's just that I didn't realize I have to switch the system mode to component on the PS2. :dunce: As for 480 or 1020 they do not work. :grumpy: I don't know if this is because my t.v. is not compatible or it's this cable. I'm thinking it's my cable because my t.v. is fairly new. BTW, how can one tell if their t.v. is 480 or 1020 compatible? Thanks

Is it HD or progressive compatible?

Also, for PS2, the only mode I can play on is 480i, except in GT4, where I can play in 480p and 1080i.

Well, it's probably your cord. I don't know about your TV, but on mine, it automaticaly tells me what mode it's in after it receives the signal. Does it do any of that stuff on yours?

I'd get the Sony component cables if you can, since any 3rd party stuff sucks badly. 👍

You have to have a TV that can support 480i or 1020i... Usually an HDTV, LCD, Plasma, etc...
