Hello, everyone. :)

As most of you may know, we are about a month away from the most exciting 3 days of the year for gaming, around the world (taking place in Los Angeles, California, of course).

It is the time and place where developers, publishers, advertisers, gamers, techno-geeks, and (most importantly) the MEDIA all come together to display, witness, discuss, and speculate on many things revolving around the present, past, and future of technology, to the public and private.

Of course, probably the biggest and most exciting parts of the Expo would be the game developers/publishers conferences, where new technology for gaming and more importantly, new games themselves will be displayed, demonstrated, and discussed for all to see and drool at.

I'm sure most people are anticipating what new goodies will be shown at E3 from Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, but I'm sure everyone here is more excited to see whats going to come from Sony's conference and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) what they will be showing in reference to Gran Turismo 5!

By now you're probably thinking "what does this have to do with GT5, or even Sony for that matter", which this would be the perfect time stay on the topic of the forum. :p

I was thinking to myself this morning about what E3 will bring, what arsenal Sony will show off, and GT5. At some point after reading forums about E3 and thinking about past discussions about GT5, an amazing thought popped into my head. 💡

With all the talk about GT5's latency, lack of information, along with HEAVY speculation, and Sony's new 3D movement, I just can't help but wonder what exactly they are planning to do this E3.

My thoughts are that GT5's dev-time was internally extended for more reasons other than adding content, fixing errors, improving on whats already finished, and other small details.

What do I think would be those reasons? HUGE marketing potential build up (HYPE) and GT5 in 3D (expanding the GT5 experience)!

I'm sure most could already guess that. Some people may or may not care about hype or 3D in games and simply "just want the game already", but I (personally) honestly think this is an extremely smart and ambitious move on levels far beyond just GT5, but certainly not excluding it. 👍

I personally am not sure if I will play GT5 in 3D for a while, but its still an experience that may be available for all to enjoy if they have the equipment for it.

Now I'm sure some of you are confused  why I took so long to just get to that point and I'm sure others have enjoied the read, but most important of all, I think EVERYONE wants to know what exactly is the main point of this thread. Well, I'll tell you EXACTLY why I made this thread... :ouch:

Other than thread build-up. :dopey:

I (without a doubt) honestly think that Sony will display most (if not all) of their conference in 3-FUDGE_TOPPED-D!

I am very excited to see if this will happen. I mean, everything thats been going on with Sony from their 3D movement, the annoucements of certain PS3 titles going 3D, the internal delay of GT5, and the potential of massive attention bate for Sony are just all too strong of a force in my head that spell this years Sony's E3 conference will be in 3D for everyone in the audience (which may suck for those of us away from the 3D goodness).

So what do you guys think? :gtpflag:

I think Mr Latte will be your best friend forever, and I also think that 3D is being massively over-hyped. However, I know how big it is for SONY, and so it is perfectly feasible for them to do their entire conference presentation in 3D.

:scared: ..... .

I honestly don't get the hype about those game shows, I usually know exactly what games I want many years before release... so what other point than being hyped and then disappointed have these shows, i don't really know.

As for the conference being 3D, I just hope it won't ruin Sony completely, since I don't see them making profit out of it.
I have no final judgement of 3D yet as I didn't see it yet, but it sounds very gimmicky and desperate IMO.
Only thing I hope for is a GT5 release date and (maybe) some info about features.
My eightball tells me we'll get loads of Move and 3D tho, but almost nothing about GT5. :nervous:

Because Sony is well aware that their E3 press conference is streamed online and broadcast on TV all over the world, they won't do their conference in 3D.

The booths and the screens displayed on the E3 will probably be. The conference stream won't... I'm sure only a very very tiny percentage of people right now could watch it in real 3D. So no.

Have to laugh at yer man.... :sly:

3D will be well promoted at E3 particulary with Sony.
I dont think they will just concentrate on it but instead have sections at the show for demoing the 3D experience.

However MS have recently announced a deal with LG to bring 3D (interlaced only 3D) and could jump on the bandwagon as well so sorry if it annoys some but 3D isnt for going away. I thought MS would not bother with 3D as they cant offer the 720p format in it but guess thats maybe not the case.

Im willing to give it the benifit of the doubt having had a good demo of some 3DTVs but its not for everyone. However if it makes the game more enjoyable then just like surround sound or indeed hidef then well heck I might get suckered into it... :)

If 3D doesnt work with headtracking, mmmmmm now that could be a problem.
For me I want triple screen support more than anything and even though PSM said it was in the game Im not fully confident it will be in the game.

This years E3 though does look like being EPIC!

Im still gunning for 30th July release to roll out around the 3DTV sales.

I just hate the whole 3d boom, be realistic people the PS3 is to slow for a decent GT5 as it is now and if they like they said implent 3d in gt5 we will see the gfx getting even worse. So how are they going to mange the increased performance hit in 3d?

1080p gone?
60fps gone?

Well nothing I am excited to see, well what ever I am not going to play it in 3d.. Throwing my LCD away and buying a new one just for the 3d ****? Will not happen. ;)

It is really annoying if the whole 3d**** is a reason why we have to wait this long and can´t already enjoy the game like it was meant to be..

I believe Sony will be pushing 3D and Move and its going to be 50% - 75% of their conference time in which they will probably show a gt5 demo but Kaz will also have his own showing of gt5.

I looked at all the colours, tried to decode, wanted to set fire to my eyeballs, and then settled for the option about you being crazy :P

Gran_Turismo, I Completely agree with you, It certainly biulds up hype and I think once sony lays down all they have in store this year, Microsoft and nintendo are going to have a long way to catch up. I do however, Have one worry, That if GT's "Content" may not be enough to some people (Defenitely wont for me) people will criticize on the fact that its taken around 6 years to make..
Plus, I Thought that compared to other racing games, Gt5.Prologue was very legitimate in terms of size, It had around 50 cars (Which near %70 of other regular racing games usually have) and the tracks (Although only 6) still never got too boring. I Say, Let them spend the time on it, To me, Gt5 may last me all the way to gt6 with no switches in between, But the fact that it took around 5 years for the full thing can be used against polyphony greatly, Hopefully people won't criticize on it.

(p.s. Gran_turismo Im surprised that username has never been taken before :sly:, since it says your a new member

After a conversation with the manager at my local currys store last week im going to disagree. He was telling me about the Sony presentation of the 3DTVs that he attended and how he was blown away. According to him this is going to change how we view our televisions and the jump in technology was like going from black/white to colour.

The launch in 3DTVs will be slow due to the economy and the fact that many have only recently bought a HDTV. However I reckon in around 5yrs time nearly everyone will own a 3DTV. Like i've said to you before you cannot halt the progression of technology. The 3DTVS will be no different to when the video recorder was released or the DVD players i.e every household owns one.

I will also mention that all major Currys stores will have the 3DTVS on display very soon. I think my local store already has them on display but I haven't checked yet.

As for E3 and im not that bothered about how much footage I see. Im more interested in knowing what gameplay features GT5 will have.

On this, I can't agree because I haven't experienced 3D technology. If most of us experience the stunning effects, then we could, having a better chance, predict the trend.

Since I have expirienced it,
At my local Bestbuy's/Futureshop they have a 3D tv set up to demo to the people, and you can check it out (Although it says you're from hong kong, so I don't mean it literally).. I did check it out, and it really isn't special, They played that new animated alien movie (Don't know what its called) And only few parts actually used well 3D, Others it would pretty much be a regular image, just popping out a couple of centimeters. So, It's certainly nothing special, and it didn't really stun me at all.
I don't really know how gran turismo would work either, all the gauges and hud popping out would really distract me, and (Supposedly, 3D allows you to take your turns better, because you have a better sense of depth) I would be to distracted and unfocused to take the corners and to be able to make a transition to 3D.. In my opinion, This is Catastrophic, in a bad way, And 3D has also been released at a very bad time (When people started really switching to HD). The whole thing is a mess, In my opinion.

3D isnt all about images popping out or floating...
It can create incredible sense of depth but the end result is down to how good the 3D is implemented. In GT5 cockpit you will be able to determine that the wheel in your hand is closer to the dash vents, dials and looking out the window will have depth perception. Even the rear view mirror should have depth perception. Thats different than mostly gimmicky pop out effects that can get tiresome.

Its easy to see why 3D gets so much criticisim because its got various hardware and software combinations over the years. For instance even now 2D-3D movie conversions give it a bad reputation as they arent great and Tvs that do 2D-3D conversion will offer only limited effects.

Lets reserve opinions on all this 3D stuff to GT5 makes proper usage of it and more Blu Rays are available. If it sucks, then fair play lets criticise it. People also seem to forget 3D isnt compulsory to use even if you buy a new 3DTV.

In order for the conference to be in 3D, they would have to hand out hundreds of 3d glasses to everyone in the audience, and those things are expensive. Otherwise, it would just look like a blurry mess. So no, I doubt the conference will be in 3D, more likely they'll just have 3D booths.

They will show a new trailer showing nothing new and with message at the end saying they will show more at the Tokyo Game Show

Wrong!!There will be more than you think.I smell Fall and worldwide release

Well, At this point we are confirmed of their presence at E3 (News), I Think they are going to announce the release date, or atleast give the final features of the game. Because of them handing out all these demos to the mercedes dealers and the N'ring, its no wonder that they really are incredibly close to finishing,. They wouldn't release those demos if the game still needed too much improvements to deal with.
As far as 3d goes, They will definitely have 3D booths, sony need to showcase the feature, and let the world know. Cause we haven't seen alot of it. And if the Microsoft featuring 3D thing is true, than sony will need to try to stay ahead of the game by showing their 3D before anyone else. GT5 is going to be sonys biggest App this year.
2010 is definitely the year. I have full confidence.
[Speculation]

where will be the best place on the web to watch the press conference's live and in hd? I remember watching the last years one, but can't remember the site?

lol avatar says hi

Avatar is a movie in a movie theater where there is at most like 50 people in a room.

A convention is in a large open space where there will be thousands of people. Booths just make more sense and will showcase it better.

Plus, Avatar seems to be more the exception than the rule. Most 3D movies seem to just be rather crappy in it as they are made 2D than made 3D where Avatar was made 3D from the start.

I guess we need to have a new poll about whether the 3D technology will show in the E3 and whether GT5 will not be on our hands this year if there is no 3D technology demonstration at E3.

Why?

Sonys 3DTV's go onsale in UK/USA/Japan the week before the E3 show and they already have announced buyers of their 3DTVs will get free 3D games (or download patch) for Wipeout/Motorstorm PR/Superstardust & Pain.
Samsung & Panasonic 3DTVs have been on sale for several weeks already.
Other brands will also have models out soon.

Sony very likely will have 3DTV booths on the show floor and also a 3D demonstration via their own press conference. This wont need expensive shutter style glasses but instead the common realD cheap passive glasses used in cinema's. They just need to have a cinema style 3D projector set up for their conference is all.

15/01/10 "MotorTrend editor Peter Lyon was also able to confirm that a “3D version” of GT5 will be available “as soon as 3D TVs become available on the market,"
11/12/09 Hinojosa-Miranda / revealed that Sony was eying a vague "Summer 2010" release
