RRoDzaaah!
If you have been following E3 on G4, you would have seen two interviews of Kaz Hirai (CEO of SCEA) and Phil Harrison (VP of SCEE) both vouch that all of the games that were in the press conference were indeed running on dev-kits in real time or video recordings of games running on dev-kits in real time, including Killzone 2, Fight Night, UT 2007, etc., etc., etc.

Go home Xbox fan boys.

I watched the whole 2 hour Sony presentation from IGN and was blown away. Each video was better than the last! I couldn't stop talking about them afterwards :D

Go home Xbox fan boys.

I really can't believe you said that. GEE WIZZ!! If the ceo's of sony etc say it's real time it must be ;). But seriously, I won't believe anything until I see some one playing it properly, same goes with PGR3 etc. The Gears of war stuff seems genuine though.

I really can't believe you said that.

Well believe it. Stuff like that comes out of your mouth just about every post you make here. Probably less then a majority.

Yeah I'm loosely following the E3 coverage on G4. And I knew the Killzone 2 demo was real-time. People just don't want to believe it. Especially the XBOX fans.

Well believe it. Stuff like that comes out of yo blah blah blah blah

Oh? I do, care to give examples, and when I say examples, I don't mean stuff I've said in sarcasm.

The killzone stuff is probably running off the hardware, don't see why not, but it is probably a tech demo. As I said, when I see a guy moving about and doing all that with my own eyes, I'll believe it. I'm not saying it's not possible, hell if that in game, I'll be damn happy. So stop being a bloody n00b. I like all games, I'm just skeptical when things look too good to be true. The notion of being a multiformat gamer is probably alien to most of you though, "OMG OMG I LUV SONY!!11! TEHY PWN M$ WHO JUST WANT YOURRRR MON3Y!!!1!!". I'm skeptical of that stuff, like I am skeptical of the PGR3 videos.

I never said in the aspect of sarcasm. Negativity.

What you see as negativity, I call being REALISTIC. Just because I don't piss my pants over every video like a 10 year old, doesn't mean I'm not looking forwards to it. Notice how when most machines are first show, most of whats shown are tech demos that look better then the actual games. Trust me, I would LOVE for motorstorm to look like that in game, and hell, I HOPE I'm proved wrong, because what I saw looked awesome.

If I was a fanboy, I'd be saying stuff like "OMG XBOX 360 is way better blah blah blah", but I don't, I just say "I havn't seen enough, nor played either console, I shall pass judgement when enough games are out for both, but the tech demos of the ps3 stuff are VERY impressive".

As a really considered opinion, after watching the Killzone demo over and over, I feel that footage is perfectly attainable in real time. Its VERY easy to get that incredibly smooth look like Guerilla achieved when you use a really limited and stylised colour palatte like they used. Each shade blends smoothly into one another, reducing aliasing, increasing percieved detail etc etc.

Metal Gear etc commonly use the limited/stylised colour palette trick to make the smoothest visuals on PS2 etc. It actually decreases the number of colours you need to use, giving a bit of a performance boost as a bonus.

All the demos that didn't look as good as Killzone were simply created in a REALLY short space of time (often not written specifically for the PS3, like the unreal3 engine stuff), remember Guerilla have huge funding from Sony these days (Sony really need FPS credibility bad) and they've been working on it for a while now. Killzone 1, while leaving a bit to be desired gameplay-wise, was right up there graphically at the peak of what PS2 can do. Technically, I'm not as fast to doubt their ability.

Killzone 2's demo looks believable, and it is. Motor Storm of course is CG. It's like night and day when compared to Killzone 2's demo and Motor Storm's.

As a Playstation owner who never owned an X-Box it is hard for me to believe as well that it was real time, though I wouldn't mind it if it actually is. When someone of Sony says that it is real time doesn't make it more convincing either, because they're only there for marketing purposes.

Though if it wasn't real and people would find out Sony would lose a lot of credibility.

I remember E3 2000. When Konami showed the MGS2 video, people where standing on their feet cheering and screaming at the top of their lungs. They then were stunned silent when they were told that most of what they saw was in game footage. Right away, XBox fans were saying how that wasn't true. Game writers had their doubts, and were very skeptical. Well, all that talk and doubts were silenced once the game came out.

Killzone II wont be any different. Wait for it. We'll all be blown away and XBox180(it's only half as good as MS says it is) fanboys will be silenced twice and for all.

Yes, of course people are going to doubt that certain games aren't realtime, they haven't seen anything else that uses the PS3 that well yet, so they can't judge. Only wait and see. Those kinda graphics may be the norm on PS3. Its fine to pick holes in the Killzone vid to say "its an animation" because its obviously a scripted sequence (DUH!).
Its completely something else to assume the final game won't look as good, or the sequence isn't perfectly indicative of what the final game will be like! The final fantasy 7 demo looked as amazing in a simlar way, and thats known to be real time, it was meant to be a tech demo (the point of which is that it IS in realtime...).

Sony wouldn't show something that they knew was way beyond what their console could do, it would knock their credibility too much.

Well it may or not be scripted. The actions are extremely similar to those from the first Killzone. It may have been scripted but that's it.

My bet - Killzone2 is scripted in EXACTLY the same fashion as the first gameplay vid of HALO2 that got released at last year's E3, the vid where it goes through the shortened version of the 'new mombasa' intro level. That was scripted so it looked really full-on, lots of action, gameplay not letting up with different situations every 2 seconds etc, but it was still in-engine and real time.

I just believe the Killzone vid is directed really carefully to make sure it looks exciting as possible. Note the special effects are always kept within the bounds of reality - not that many bad guys on screen at once, not more than 1 big explosion at the same time etc. They kept it realistic in terms of what to expect in the final game.

What the hell did you guys expect from the next gen PS, it's not gonna be PS2 graphics with nicer effects. This is what console gaming SHOULD be coming to at this point. I don't doubt for one second that thoes are ingame, you saw the unreal demo played real time, the other tech demo's were played real time. The game vids were all ingame, maybe highly scripted, but then why wouldn't they be, it's the first showing and the producers are going to do the bett hey can to make it look good. TBH I expected some effects to be better, people complained when they saw the new X-Box, the graphics wern't as good as they'd liked, now they see these they complain that it can't be real, the're TOO good.

This might be wrong as its just a vague recollection, but weren't the PS2 dev kits more powerful than a standard PS2?

I'll wait till I see one in store regardless :)

Not thatI can recall, I thought the first glimpses of PS2 software was from normal PS2 kits but they were shown running on PC's that were more powerful. The games shown at the conference were running on the PS3. Feel free to wait till you see one in the store, I'll wait till I see more vids runnnig at a higher quality.

Man code almost never has anything negative to say about Xbox.

Killzone was not real time at all. it wasnt even runing on a PC, it was just rendered in HD to a quicktime or something.

What a heart breaker. hoeever that says nothing about the hardware. The other real time demos just seem better after learning this. Just look at the detail in FFXVII demo, it even runs at 60fps !!!! No MAcBox360 demo came close to that.

Man code almost never has anything negative to say about Xbox.

Just for you, here's some things that annoy me about the xbox...

1. It's too damn big
2. The HDD isn't big enough to store more of my PS1 games on
3. The pads have rubbish cables
4. ummmm it's not an xbox360
5. or a ps3
6. or a 'tendo revolution
7. games aint free for it
8. It's also pretty damn heavy

I hope this is ok :D

Oh and from that link you gave..

"It's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make"

So in other words it's a tech demo at best, ie this is what the console can do when all it has to do is do graphics and nothing else. Also didn't he say that was on dev kits? Lets see how the real game looks, say in 8 months time or so. TBH I'm sure the graphic quality of the final game will be quite similar.

code_kev has nothing but negative things to say. I motion for him to be banned. Hes just trying to start internet battles. He can lie and say hes just super skeptical and other crap but ive seen it a million times.

And this was a useful post?

Hmm I am much less skeptical now Sony has come out and said the Killzone demo wasn't pre-rendered. It kinda kills Microsoft's squirming propaganda that the Xbox360 is faster than PS3. HAHAHA Fanboy post. I'll still get the damn Xbox360 for Halo3...

I always knew guerilla was a better developer than the obviously rushed PS2 Killzone showed. If Guerilla weren't talented, Sony wouldn't be backing them to the hilt, they'd source their AAA FPS 'hope' from some other dev.

Mind you, we're all getting excited about a short demo sequence, before the Halo3 hype machine is even close to starting up...

Why is Code Kev's opinion so damn important to other people, he gives it you ask why, he tells you, end of.

Boo hoo hoo. :*(

When it comes to consoles, I believe nothing sony say or show until I see it with my own eyes, or a video of some guy playing it, simply because they have a reputation of talking crap. I don't "hate" sony or anything, hell why do I care who makes it, it's only a console. That is all, I'm not some raving fanboi who thinks "MS pwns Sony", I'm just a gamer, and based on past experiences, I just adopt a "I'll believe it when I see a game running" policy. If I'm proved wrong, whey!
I feel like I'm repeating myself, but some people are so damn stupid.

I feel like I'm repeating myself, but some people are so damn stupid.

:dunce: "Oh I'm still not quite sure what your saying there code... maybe a metaphor to help explain, or a different reiteration would help clarify... then I'd still not understand and take you up on a point you never made and thus brand you as a stupids!!11!...:dunce: "

Of course people are stupid. And yes you need to clarify your position 500 times. Its just what happens on the internets.

I mean its a difficult position for people to understand (I really empathise here), a position of not having bias and just enjoying good games... Most people find it easier to understand someone's point of view if it consists purely of blatant fanboi screaming from the rooftops. If its actually a mixture of sarcastic fanboi screaming and then of a fair-minded mature gamer (when being serious) it tends to confuse the hell out of some people.
Personally, I've just given up using sarcasm completely (American sitcom style sarcasm with big "THIS IS A JOKE PEOPLE, TIME TO LAUGH" banners doesn't count). :(

Basically most people here are really serious and literal minded, and don't make that many jokes. So when a joke comes by, some people really take it the wrong way (they think you're serious). You then have to spend a lot of time taking the piss of them because they are idiots (actually pretty fun sometimes...:mischievous:). The only downside is you screw your rep a little bit more for seeming to be a muck-raker. :grumpy:

:dunce: I think the PS3 is liek SOO mUCH THE SEXS (because the controller is good shap for girls to play with!!11!) more than Xbok360 which is like a 3vil company and they don't care about you, they have special mind control chipds that go liek over Xbox Live to make youse into like a zombie and buy more gamez uncontrollably. A mate said this was becauze the games were real good and he jus lieks them, but I thinik he's just under the Xbox CONTROLZ!!!11!" :dunce:

Sorry, LaBounti, Killzone 2 was real-time on dev-kits.

http://gamespot.com/news/2005/05/20/news_6126204.html

I know you know a lot more then me but i came up with my opinion from that same source I read it twice just to make sure..

" Then a post on the Eurogamer forums laid out a tantalizing conspiracy: Axis Animation, the same Scottish computer animation company that made a cinematic for the first Killzone, had been working on the E3 demo for months as straight-up CG. So how does Sony respond to the allegations?"

"Bogus or not bogus?: Believe Sony? Bogus. Think Sony's lying? Not Bogus."

I dont think there will be a straight answer for a while.

Code does have his opinions but hes always quick to say something about the weakness PS2. I'got over it a long time ago, i just had never heard anything negative about xbox or xbox games. I got a positive responce :)

Guys, stop the arguments. Kev has his own opinions. If he chooses to wait until he plays the actual games or they come out before he believes it's all in real-time, then that's his perogative. If you don't agree with his opinion, that's fine, but flaming him because of it is not the way to go about it.

Stick to the topic of the post and not to the topic of code_kev.
