Some people say that interleague play in the MLB is rubbish. I think it's a great measure of how well you are compared to other teams. With the pace of the Milwaukee Brewers this season, imagine matching them up against nearby AL teams like the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers. Here in Texas, we have the Battle for the Silver Boot between my Houston Astros of the NL and the Texas Rangers of the AL. There's also the battle for New York City's finest between the Yankees and the Mets. There's also the matchup of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. But do you like interleague play?

I'll start.

I'm usually fond of competition. Think about it like this. You have the NFL and NBA in which teams from different conferences go at it. There are even collegiate conferences that have non-conference play before playing in conference. And let's not forget some of the national-level football (as in soccer) teams that take part against other teams outside of national boundaries (for example, my hometown Houston Dynamo took on Chivas of Futbol Liga Mexicana]. I also remember someone briefly talking about how Yokohama F-Marinos upset Manchester United once). Take the NBA. My Houston Rockets would take on teams like Chicago, Miami, New Jersey, Boston... all from the Eastern Conference. Playing in the NBA Western Conference is tough as it is with teams like Phoenix and Dallas. Look in college football where you have teams like Auburn playing against someone like Florida State or Georgia Tech. College basketball can have some matches like St. John's meeting Fordham or even California playing at West Virginia like this past season. But in baseball, it seems like the difference between the American League and the National League seems a bit lopsided or strange. I still like interleague play for the sake of competition. If you're going to be in the World Series, you'll have to eventually take on some competition from the other conference. It isn't like you have to win all the games, but it helps your team realize where you are against the competition. I mentioned the Milwaukee Brewers being the hottest team right now. How would this year's team match up against some of the AL heavyweights? This is a great measure of where a team from one conference stands up against a team from another conference.

What do you think of Interleague Play?

Well, as expected we just kicked some Yankee butt. Yankees are now 10 games behind first place since 1995.

In other words, if you didn't get it,

THEY SUCK!

Aaaah why???

Its not fair. Wait. 1995? That was the year before it all got good... :D I smell awesome next year.

I like interleague play alot. Because I don't want to wait till the world series to see the Yanks meet the Meet the Mets, greet the Mets, everybody beats the Mets. :sly: Just you watch, we'll come out on top.

The question is when buddy? it's been almost 7 years without a WS ring. And if you were not aware, the Mets have the best NL record. Just FYI.

And you suck.

Ohh and wait!!!! what did the Yankees do like a week ago? tell me! something typical from them!

let me hint you in: Think 40+ year old guy who used to be good, think southern origin, think er.....overrated veteran? YES! they're bringing back that old fart Roger Clemens just so he can embarrass the Yankees once again, and himself by proving that, NOBODY IS A LEGEND FOREVER.

If it wasn't for the Rolling Stones performing at Fenway park a couple of years ago, the Yankees would have been the oldest team/group to be there, in the history of the stadium!!!

Count me in with the "Yankees Suck" crowd. But that's not the point of this thread.

I like interleague play. I do NOT like the way MLB executes the concept. Six games between the Mariners and their "rival" San Diego? Yawn. But it must be this way so the Yankees and Mets can play six times (and be on national TV six times, because every baseball fan in the country wants to see Yankees v Mets). The real allure of interleage play is seeing teams you don't normally see. MLB has it right by rotating divisions each year, but let's ditch the mandatory "rivalry" games. Few "rivalry" games are true rivalries, and in the regular season, the result doesn't matter anyway. A Mets/Yankees World Series has intrigue--something on the line. A Thursday afternoon June matchup of No. 4 starters does not.

But as I say, it's a bit like non-conference play in college team sports. You can see a football game like Michigan at Pittsburgh, Texas at Iowa, Houston at Florida State, and stuff like that. Then again, you can actually control your scheduling in college. The MLB basically has you playing whatever teams whether you like them or not. If you're the Cincinatti Reds playing against the New York Yankees, you'd be pretty p-o'ed too. I guess the real allure of Interleague Play is that you tend to have these true rivalries. Take my state of Texas. We have two MLB teams- the Houston Astros of the National League (who got their asses kicked by Texas) and the Texas Rangers of the American League. The Astros/Rangers series is the Battle for the Silver Boot. You have the Florida Marlins of the NL up against Tampa Bay. I even heard of Cincinatti taking on Clevland. You have some of these unique rivalries. This is something you have to admit.

Anyone else want to comment on Interleague Play?

I HATE the Yankees. I HATE the Rocket(not the basketball team).

Oh, yeah, interleague games? I think they are great! But like Kyle said, it definitely sucks when your team get a boring team like Padres to play against. For baseball fans in the Northwest, interleague games will no longer be needed, when NL team arrives in Portland. We can drive up to Seattle to watch AL, they can drive down here to watch NL teams. I hope this happens before I die.

:grumpy: You all are stinkydoodooheads.

Yankees will pwnzor joo. Watch. It'll happen. Its only gonna happen when the get rid of all of the tired old vets. As much as it pains me to say this, but its time for Rivera and Posada, along with Mussina to pack it up, and wait for the HOF ballot. :sly:

I know this is off-topic, but I seen highlights of Game 2 of the Yankees/Mets series. And man... Yankees do suck. Even if that turncoat Roger Clemens (I respect him) tries to save the Yanks, it probably won't be enough in the end. I keep hearing so much about how much Boston and New York (Yankees) spend a lot of money on players and don't get too much in terms of results. I think one play saw a Yankee catch the ball, but then tries to pitch to first base... and the ball hits the front of his foot and looked ugly. Yankees need help!

Anyhow, continue talk about your ideas about interleague play. A lot of posts in here I've seen liked interleague play. Anyone who DOESN'T like interleague play?

My Houston Astros will go through a series of interleauge games as will a lot of other teams. After my 'stros lost YET ANOTHER SERIES, they're probably going to get their asses handed to by the Chicago White Sox in Chicago this weekend. There's even a game to be shown on FOX this Saturday showcasing this rematch of the 2005 World Series. Care to offer your Interleague Play comments?

As much as it pains me to say this, but its time for Rivera and Posada, along with Mussina to pack it up, and wait for the HOF ballot. :sly:

Is this where I point out that Posada currently sits second in MLB with a .359 Batting Average?
