Yesterday I bought some X-530 speakers. Things all sounded pretty good, but I noticed that the vocals in some of Chevelle's were a little weird, but nothing major. However today when my brother was watching Batman Begins, the music in the movie was weird. During some parts it sounded like those dying robots in movies, like something was melting (or an old tape). The dialogue was fine though. So I decided to test it out on some music and the same thing happened. I plugged in my old Altec Lansing AVS300's and they also had the same problem. BTW, my soundcard is the onboard CMI8738 from C-Media. There are no new drivers out since 3 years. I'm wondering if anyone had a similar problem? or any solutions?

I'm guessing it's the sound card, but I want to be sure before dishing out $100.

probably is the sound card. Try reinstalling your drivers and updating your bios first though.

If that fails, go for the Audigy 2 or the new X-FI cards. The audigy *should* be a bit cheaper since it was recently replaced but it won't support the latest and greatest EAX technology

I installed the new VIA 5.00 drivers, but I don't think that should have affected it. I think the reboot probably got rid of the problem for now.
