Following the inaugural & highly successful ‘Northwest Karting Challenge’ (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=114611) , we’re planning a 2nd event more suitable for the ‘Southern softies’ who couldn’t make the trip ‘oop North because it was too far, or they already had plans to wash their hair or they were just plain scared of the locals.

The Venue
Daytona Racing, Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey - Sandown is an excellent outdoor karting venue running top quality twin engined pro-karts (70+ mph).

Track layout

We'll be using the full GP circuit, which is 900M long - the long right at the top of the picture is a flat out at 70mph (big G's!) corner and leads straight in to a braking zone for the next corner where the rear gets nicely loose :D

Racing format

Several options, including...

60 minute endurance race for teams of 2 people (plus 10 minute practice per person) - £62.50ea
40 minute endurance race for individuals (plus 10 minute practice) - £67.50ea
2 x 20 minute endurance races for individuals (plus 10 minute practice) - £67.50ea

More options if we get more than 30 drivers including 1.5 hour endurance races.

The Date
As it’s outdoors, and the British weather can a bit variable even in the middle of summer, I’ve asked them for availability of Saturday afternoons in August (not 22nd).

The current idea is we’d have exclusive use of the venue for the event and afterwards there would be time for socialising/drinking/currys/BBQ’s/whatever.

General interest check only at this stage for ideas on numbers.

Cheers,
Chris

Following the success that was the Northern Karting Challenge, let me be the first to register interest for the Southern version.

I'm in 👍

I would definitely be up for it providing the date fits in august. Transport may be an issue if my car fails its MOT in July (likely). I have plenty of time sort out other methods though.

Put me down as interested 👍

Steve, I'm sure there will be a spare seat when the Northern posse charges down-country. :)

I think i can say that i will attend this with about 4-5 maybe more people interested in coming down for a couple of days

Definitely interested, might be away in early part of August, but it sounds brilliant 👍

All the best

Definitely interested and free most of August at the moment.

Steve or other North Western GTPrs - if I go I'll happily help out with lifts down if required.

Count me in, after the fun at the weekend, I'm game for some more Karting, I think you'll find I said we'd have more karting events in the first thread

Well I may have a few days of driving round an airstrip in sports cars working booked, and I have the weekend of leeds festival in which I will be busy. I really hope the date fits, I have loads of free time before Uni starts, so I should.

The prospect of potential lifts sounds good, thank you for the offers, just name a petrol/'having to put up with me for the journey' fee. 👍

I can't honestly see the 306 passing its MOT, it nearly died on the way back karting, that said, I was driving it a bit like, well a kart.

The idea of a BBQ drinks social afterwards sounds great too. I will certainly be trying my best to make it down. I would like to put my interest down as being with the solo 40minute endurance, I don't want the responsibility driving for a teamate. :scared:

I like the 2x20 option more, doubt i would be much good as ive never done anything like this before but ive always wanted too. Although ive always been good on GT and learnt to drive pretty quick[soon booking my test] two months after i started learning.

Bet my mum would worry to about me going but if im passed i will do whatever the hell i like lol.

The 2 x 20 min option looks good to me.
Also I'm free for any Saturday in August. 👍

Looks another awesome venue Chris, and the karts, being twin engined, should have plenty of power.

My mum doesn't worry about me these days.:P

I'd love to put my hat in the ring for this - looks awesome. I've done karting once on an indoor track and absolutely loved it, so outdoors with a 70mph kart sounds fantastic. 👍

Welcome aboard... outdoor karting is quite a different experience to indoor, especially if it rains!

Last time I karted in the rain was at Daytona's track in Milton Keynes... Damon Hill was there and he lapped the entire field in 4 laps!

That track looks AWESOME! 900 mtrs. is also a good length track for outdoors.. I do a lot of karting here in Holland indoors and outdoors... So what airport is closest to this track... I might consider coming out from holland if its close to an airport and if there's a big group :D

Heathrow is about 30 minutes away, Gatwick about 45.

Hmm.... That doesnt sound too bad... I'm going to see if I can get a friend to go and I'll let you know whats up! 👍

I can provide pick up's from Heathrow... only about 15/20 minutes from my house.

That makes it even more interesting, because a flight to Heathrow from here costs next to nothing if I book early. Either leave again in the evening or party all night and leave in the morning again  Sounds good man I'm definitely considering it, now I just need to ask a friend to hitch along and im set! You will here from me soon.. 👍

This looks good! I should be up for it (plus one other) as long as it isn't on one of the weekends when I am away in August. Need to get a lot more fit than I am now though especially as the track appears to be quite twisty! Up for any format but would prefer either the 60minute or 2 x 20min's, not sure I could last for 40 minutes straight!

I'm planning a backpacking Europe trip for the middle of August, as some of you may know. I'll keep this in mind, as it seems like a blast. Never done shifter-carts, but plenty of auto-crossing and Formula Ford classes.
