When spa francorchamps comes to some earlier DLC, i was happy that i could drive it without buying the DLC.
But i recognized that i´m no longer able to join a race with this track, i can join the lobby but when i want to go on the track, i get an error message displayed that i´m not able to play this track because i have not the required DLC pack downloaded
Is there any expiration date for new maps?

Yeh, you have to purchase the track to be able to play it. They allowed everyone to use the track online for a limited period.

You can still use route x. Which will probably also get locked soon.

How long will the tracks be available for free? Must be ~ 4 weeks?

I dont want to imagine what does it means for me and playing GT5 online, because i don´t want to buy any DLC and waste my money with such stuff...

Then why update the game then?
If you don`t want to play online, stay at version 1.00

If you consider buying the track a waste of money, then why start this thread..??

Obviously the OP likes having things free that others had to buy. I'm not a big fan of DLC either but if it means driving on a track I love as well as being able to fully race every where for a few dollars...why not? Tons of games do DLC now days, if you want free stuff go play rFactor and get the free mods (toward OP not CyKosis)

It's fair enough that if you want to race the track you should buy it, but I don't remember seeing anywhere that this was going to happen. I had to quickly re-organise a league race schedule last night to accommodate this as we did not know this was going to happen after racing away on it for the last couple of months!

Well I didn't see anything either so I must agree with you at this point. However, that may just mean that we missed it and it was there all along, but this still doesn't surprise me. If PD didn't tell us directly, then once again it boils down to not communicating with the GT crowd.

I liked the idea that people could use it only in online lobbies, if they did not pay the DLC. The family pack option was a good thing as well.

Limiting online, just seems a money scheme to me. Oh yeh, Sony does make GT5 to get money don't they. Guess it is up to them to decide what you can do with it when you did not pay.

So... You want to race on a track but your not prepared to pay for it?

If you want to race at Spa you buy Spa. That is not a waste of money. Buying something and not using it is a waste of money.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind doing a track day at Cadwell Park soon, hope they don't have the cheek to charge me for using their property!

Exactly, because everyone knows that if you want to use it enough you shouldn't have to pay.

hm ok but i dont get the point why I should buy a game (nearly) twice?
I´m playing the GT series since GT2 and I love it, but in the past I bought the game for 70$ and thats it.
Today i have to buy for some tracks and cars to be up to date and to attend all online rooms I want?
Just for calculation: http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/products/gt5/dlc/
If I buy all these DLC´s without the Racing Gear Pack (90 items) and Paint Pack (100 colors) i´ve spent 26,95$, thats nearly the half price of the whole game...

You don't have to brah, nobody is forcing you to buy anything. However, if you do want that something extra, put your hand in your pocket and cough up...

You're right...you paid only $70 in the past, but did you get constant updates, fixes, or new content? When you paid for GT2 to GT4, the game was always stuck on version 1.0.

But now that gaming is integrated with online features, developers can patch the game, add new content to the game. That new content isn't part of the original game which you paid $70 for, so that's why they are charging you for it. Think of DLC like expansion packs.

But if you only want Spa then it's $4.99 for that pack. Nothing is forcing you to buy any of the other packs.

DLC is something that has arrived with this generation of Consoles and I very much doubt it will go away now.

Look at it this way, previously if you bought a game you were stuck with the content it came with. Under that mechanism you would have to wait until GT6 to get Spa. At least with DLC you don't have to wait until GT6 to get Spa.

I actually agree with the op, if i view the DLC objectively. The amount of content vs price is pretty steep.

However, i dont mind shelling out the extra $s for the dlc as i love this game and want to experience it to its fullest.

Hmm, got my mates coming over for a GT5 night next week, how much should I charge them to use my game? Perhaps I'll just play and let them watch unless they cough up lol

;)

I bought all DLC last weekend, spent hours and hours since then racing various dlc cars on SPA. Total amount of money paid: €29 (over here in europe we pay extra because of the strong currency :-( ) but still: I think the price per hour of fun boils down to 29/30 = less then €1/h And thats only a few days after the purchase.

IMO: a game (or game content) worth playing is worth paying for! That's the ONLY way developers will go on making these great toys for us!

If you don't think it's worth paying for (read: obviously not worth playing) than don't, but please, it isn't worth complaining about than either, or is it?

Edit: off topic. It's been a while since I posted here, the car in my avatar is long gone. The current car isn't worth turning into an avatar (family car :-) ) so I'll stick with this one (we used to call it our mazdarati :-) )

What you said, 10 times.

I estimated the time I spent on GT5, since it went out ... I bought the game *twice* (reg edition, then Signature Edition), bought every DLC (30e), even bought the paint DLC twice to get the FT-86 Concept II (I know, waste of money but I'm a completionnist).

The hours I enjoyed wasting on the game weren't wasted at all, and if I had to estimate, I think I've spend less than 10 cts per hour in there ... GT5 is still awesome, wether you like the DLC component or not. There are regular updates, bug fixes, a few gifts every now and then ( Shadow edition GT500s in US, the Red Bull X1 2010 - Vettel, the Toyota 86GT ...). And Seasonnals !

The DLCs are just frosting on top of the cake (although some might argue the frosting is overrated when it contains more GTRs, Leafs...)

Still, the DLC tracks are awesome on their own :)

I just hope for more classic cars turning premium, I just love to take old alfa romeos round the nordschleife!

@ Mark, love the way your ... is staring at me! ;-)

I decided to spend 800€ on a screen to enhance the experience, I'm lucky to be able to do this. But indeed, the steering wheel, etc... are worth it for the time I spend on it.

It´s not about the money, its about that i have not so much time for playing PS3, maybe 1 or 2 times a week for a couple of hours.
Then its hard for me when i just want to join a quick online race and a new DLC with a new track comes out, its hard to find a lobby which does not only uses the new track for racing...
