I just bought an Alpine CDA-9815 head unit:

http://www.epinions.com/pr-Car_Stereos_Changers_Alpine_CDA_9815_Radio_CD_MP3_Player_CDA_9815

Which was probably the best buy of my life at $170. Now I am in the market for some good speakers to accomodate this amazing CD/MP3 reciever. I have the premium sound system that was offered in the 91-93 240SX models. I believe they are 4x6" in front, and 6.5" in the rear (If not, please correct me, so I purchase the correct speakers). Anyway, I was wondering if you other Nissan folk (S13 owners especialy) could direct me towards some quality speakers?... I am a bit of an audiophile, so if the sound isn't clear and pronounced, it starts to bug me after a while. I had some Sony Xplod 3 way 6x9's and 5.25's in my Jetta, and they didn't do the job for me. They are supposed to be pretty nice speakers, but the sound wasn't as clear as I wanted them to be... Of course part of it might have been that I was using a Sony Xplod 50W x 4 reciever... I'm positive my 60w x 4 Alpine reciever is going to produce much clearer sound, as Alpine is known for top end sound clarity...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will do my own research into the matter, but I would like to get everyones opinion as well, so I can stear clear of any speaker types, or brands, that may be less than ideal...

Now for the Muffler...

I am looking for something that is not going to look like a fart can. Although, The Apexi N1 is on my list of possible universal exhausts to purchase... I would like something with a Remus like dual outlet style, but not too flashy... I am building a sleaper 240SX Coupe, so I would like the exhaust to be understated, but sporty... Here are some examples of the look I am going for:

Yet, I will go with an N1 or HKS Hi-Power type, if that will deliver a good tone as well as performance.... Let me know what your experience is with different muffler types, and post pictures of yours, if you can...

;)

look into the rsr exmag. individual tuned for each app for dyno proven gains without loud noise, yet still sporty tone. stealthy styling (black oem looking canister with chrome tip) but kinda costly (460-500). it is a cat back tho.

I just want the muffler... I will bend and weld the pipe myself, and remove the cat...

if only you were in so cal... :grumpy:

If I was in SoCal, I wouldn't be removing the cat, that's for sure... Up here in my county (Skagit), there are no emissions tests...

Any more suggestions?...

If you are a baller you will find yourself a Dart Izumi Exhaust. So ****ing badass unless it's on an NA KA. Then it's louder than piss.

I will be using a resonator anyway, since I will have a straight through exhaust, and no cat... I'll check for that brand...

I found some Magnaflow exhausts that look nice:

Does anyone have any experience with, or opinions about, Magnaflow exhausts?...

What about Apexi N1 mufflers?...

Any opinions of any kind?...

;)

I purchased a door speaker upgrade panel... Changing the stock 4x6 to 6.5's... This will allow me to go with the 2005 Alpine 6.5 component speaker set, so that part is solved... I will be going with Alpine 3-way 6x9's in the rear deck... So the speaker problem has been resolved...

Now for the muffler... I decided to try and find a good deal on either a Magnaflow twin tip universal muffler, or an Apexi N1 universal muffler (I know, they're very different)... Either look will be fine, and after doing some research, I believe both brands will provide long life and good performance...

Therefore...

My next question is... Being that I am running a KA24DE (NA), what size pipe should I run?... 2.25", 2.5"?... I realise that you don't want to go overboard with the pipe size with an NA motor, but what is a good balance?... Does anyone here have any experience with different pipe diameters, and how they will effect performance?... BTW, I will be running either no cat or a high flow cat, straight back to a straight through exhaust...

Clicky

Excessive, but very good looking installed.

As soon as I get the stuff wrong with my car fixed, I plan on doing the same style exhaust.

Ewwwwww... I cannot stand the looks of that exhaust... Also, the extra tubing is completely unneccessary... I'm going for the straightest possible exhaust, with a more minimalist looking muffler... Also, I don't want a cat-back... I just want the muffler, so I can bend my own pipe (so I know it is the straightest possible line), and tig weld the muffler in place... A friend of mine (Floating Point, on these boards) had that exhaust on his SR20 powered coupe, and he hated it... I saw pictures of it, and it looked just as bad as it apparently sounded...

A single Apexi N1 muffler, or a dual 3" or 3.5" tip Magnaflow will suit me just fine...

Burnt Tip N1 Muffler

Cheapest N1 style on ebay. It has the all important removable silencer, some of them are permanently welded in.

Bro... Those are cheap knockoff mufflers... Very poorly constructed, and generaly filled with fiberglass... Great for your average ricer, but I am not one...

Circle track wisdom says that peak torque will occur at the RPM when exhaust velocity is about 240-260 ft/sec. Exhaust velocity is dependent on engine displacement and pipe diameter only, if you are doing a rough estimate. So if you let me know your engine displacement and the pipe diameter you plan on using, it's easy to figure out about where the peak torque will land.

Actually, I've bought those for people before, from those same guys. They've seen West Virginia winters (read: more salt than snow) for several years, and they're still working just fine.

And unless they've changed something, or started buying them from different people, they're not filled with fiberglass. But it's your car, I was just offering a suggestion.

the KA24DE is 2388cc (2.4Litre)... I was planning on either going with 2.25" piping or 2.5" piping...

They are most definitely filled with fiberglass, for sound deadening... That's one of the many ways they cut corners so they can sell them for so cheap... They are just poorly made, and do not provide the performance and/or tone that I am looking for... I would advise against buying such garbage... You just can't make a good muffler for what they are charging... You can do what youi like, but I will never put that crap on my car...

Nice... I think I'll probably go with the 2.25" then, unless you find the 2.5" would give a better torque curve... Let me know what you find...

With a 2.25" tube and a velocity of 250 ft/sec you would be moving 414 cu feet of air per minute....which seemed silly to me (considering 2.4L = 0.085 cu ft) until I realized that the 250 feet/sec is going to be achieved in the headers...so that tubing shouldn't "beef up" the torque at all. So your benefit is going to be in upper-rpm HP...

Based on that table seems like 2.25" would be the way to go. 👍

Thanks mate... That's what I was looking for... Do you mind if I send you some PM's in the future to help with some automotive issues?... I'm compiling a list of knowledgeable individuals, that can help with various automotive subjects...

BTW, I think I'm going to go with this exhaust:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=8002062050&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

A REAL Apexi N1 universal muffler for NA aplications...

Thanks again for your help, Skip... 👍

Looks good 👍 Maybe we'll get a sound clip when it's all together?
Thanks again for your help, Skip... 👍
No probs

Hey D.R have you checked out scorpion or apexi?

they normally do quite good exhausts with or without catbacks and cost about £300 (not sure what that is in dollars though)

and on the Magnaflow they are normally quite good exhausts one of my teachers run a 2.50 on a ford sierra cosworth tuned to 550hp and he had no problems so you should be fine with that

p.m me if you want links

Thanks for the input... Better late then never, right?...

Anyway, I decided to go with a full custom 2.5" cat back exhaust from www.brmusa.com... I have heard only good things about the quality, sound, and strength of their welds... A lot of people on www.nicoclub.com run BRM exhausts, and I have yet to find someone who is unhappy with them...

;)

Well, were's the sound clip?

Also, sort of an off-topic question, but do exhausts for ka24de engines fit sr20det's, since I only see "240sx" exhausts, so I'm guessing they fit both?

Correct, All S13 exhausts fit all stock S13 motors, ditto for S14. End of the downpipe is the same flange and location. However, S13 exhaust will not fit on S14, and vice versa.
