I was under the impression it was marketed as a "F-85 Jetfire"

Maybe it was the F-85 Jetfire.Ah well, I'm usually wrong and/or misinformed. I just wanted to be overly particular.:dopey: Not all F-85s had the turbo, though.

Having just joined this thread, and having not Googled up the answer.
Wasn't the Corvair also offered the same year as the F85, and the first US production car with a rear engine?

Okay.

A famous car from 1965, equipped with a 500bhp V8 and with the low weight of only 793kg.

Have at ya. :D

Actually the 427 Cobra had 485bhp and weighed 975kg.

Standard road cars were sold at 355bhp and weighed 1034kg!

a cobra would be my first choice but everyone seems to dissagree, so my second choice would be a

Ford GT40 - but im pretty sure they are a bit heavier than 793 kg.

Mk1 GT40 was 950kgs and 425bhp.

MK2 was 1046kgs and 485bhp.

Mk3 (a road car) was 1061kgs and 306bhp.

MkIV was 1000kgs and had 500bhp - but this was 1967 and was still 207kgs too heavy.

I don't think that anything produced 500bhp in 1965 - especially not one that weighs only 793kg.

Jim Clark's 1965 Indy 500 winning Lotus 38 had 500bhp - but weighed only 612kgs

That would be the Ford Granada Mk3, way back in 1985. That wasn't very long ago.

1967 Jensen FF. How about that? And that was a long time ago.

He's right - though the Granada was the first to feature it, as standard, throughout the range.
