OKOKOK Whats going on? Im lost. I asked the first car to be fitted with a speedometer, and JCE3000GT got it wrong, so I changed my question. Now its whats the first Chevrolet model? Its not the Chevrolte/Little; its something else. Hint: it had a 299ci (4.9L) L6 engine.

I went because skip0110 got it right and he didnt feel like asking a question. Was I even supposed to go? :nervous:

They came out the center? they were side pipes?

No mufflers?

one pipe?

(God Forbid) EGR? -that was a totally stupid guess

Had a different tone due to a changed firing order?

Headers?

No headers? they used the stock manifolds?

Came out the sides near the rear wheels.
 
Through the stock muffler under the back seat, then out the sides near the back tires.
 
Close enough. They actually went fully behind the axle from what I understand to the stock muffler location and then forward to where they came out.

Erm.... Just a wild guess... Integrated block and intake manifold? (I'm not sure how significant this oddity is, so I'll start major).
 
It was dropped in 1971 from the Mustang which had it as a base engine and made a comeback in 1979 in the Mustang as the middle engine, and became the base engine in 1980 Pony but got dumped for 1983? :nervous:

Wikipedia is wrong on that one, the 1979-1993 Mustangs had a 88hp 2.3L I4 as the base engine every single model year...
 
IT was a staple in every thing from Falcon's to Fairlanes. I also believe that it was poked & stroked, for use in light trucks.
It was produced from 1963-1984 and was the standard engine for the Mustang, and the middle upgrade engine for the Early Fox body stangs.
It was also the base for the 4 cyl HSC engine that replaced the six.
The 200 also had/has longer bolts in the middle of the exhaust manifold (cylinders 3-4), because of the greater thickness of the manifold in this area.

It was also a pretty strong runner. My old man had a '66 notchback so equipped, and it would climb Beverly Hills at a very good clip. (Much faster than my mom's Galaxie with the 351W.)
 
Is the intake part of the head casting?

I'm looking at pictures of these trying to spot something weird...

(that seems telling, but it's hard to see)

I'm assuming that it's a 2-parts-onto-one thing here... Block & Intake??? WTF was I thinking... Intake and Head are one-piece.

I never rushed to ask a question, I was just taking guesses. Isnt that part of the fun? If it was all serious, then I guess I wont be replying here anymore.

excuse me, I'VE heard of that.

Little boy, once upon a time, every engine in America was measured in ci. including the small ones, like the Six this one is.

sorry to pull a Lothar Hex and be sarcastic.

My Guess:

It almost seems that the exhaust manifold attaches to the intake manifold!
