"Special" cars? WTF?

So I just picked up one of my all-time favorite autombiles, the Caterham Super Seven (known as the Caterham Seven Fire Blade in the game). I tried to enter the professional hall, and it WOULDN'T LET ME. I tried to enter the beginner hall, nothing. It won't even allow me to run track days. This is such a badass car: 370kgs, 230+hp supercharged, 12,000rpm redline, and now I can't race it? 👎

I love that car! Glad I didn't buy it - I was going too earlier.

I have the Nike car, and it's the same way. I can't race it (not that I really want to) - that only thing I can do is take it on the training track alone.

Yeah, that was discussed when the game was released in jpn. I don't see why it would be so bad to have that car able to race. I mean, if you want to you're going to take an F1 car to the clubman cup, why not the caterham?

Caterham stands above all imo, such a shame I can't race it too much. GGGRRRR!!!! *writes thretening letter to polyphony*

Same thing with the Auto Union Streamliner, The Nike One, I'm afraid to test others.

anyway, I would take a lotus MS elise/exige or a vauxhall if I can't nab a Cat.

Yes this has been discussed to death. Try searching.

It has nothing to do with the power of the car. Nor is the car "special", unless of course you like it. It has to do with how much of the driver is exposed while driving and how much CPU it takes to render all of those polygons. Thus no more CPU left to render other cars. Simple as that.

The only thing you can do with it is run hotlaps in the free run areas in GT mode. I haven't tried it in arcade, but I assume you can time trial with it...

You can race one on one in the single player arcade. Not sure about using the garage car there though (I don't have the American version of the game yet... I have to wait for it to arrive in the UK).

I don't have GT4, but from reading the comments the last couple days, it seems PD has put more work into the look of the game, than the actual fun and joy of racing the different cars. After all this time being delayed I would expect something better. I was extremely anxious to buy the game, now I'm almost dreading the experience I'll have.

And here I was, about to suggest that you may not have met the criteria needed to enter the hall ...

Actually, you can race them in Arcade, it just pits you against one opponent instead of five. While I don't have the Caterham yet, I do have the Nike car, and was able to race it in Arcade. Against an AC Cobra. So at least it takes the opportunity to put you against another open-top car. :)

It's on the official car list.. it'll show up at some point in the Used lots, or it can be won somewhere. Patience, grasshopper.

Still can't race the Caterham, properly! Large boos.

I had hoped that PD would have let this thru. 13 days to see if PAL is the same, might be, might not be...

I presume that you can't enter a race with the ac or shelby corba? But how about the old-timers? Can you race the old Beetle?

What's PAL? I keep hearing about it. What is it?

Don't ask these stupid questions, try searching

PAL is the world outside of America (and Asia).

Something some americans dont know anything about! :dunce:

When in florida someone asked me where i was from, i replied 'Scotland' then the guy said, oh yeah yeah Scotland, thats part of England.

I said eh NO! thats like saying "America, yeah thats part of Canada........

GRRRRR 🤬

I don't know exactly wha it stands for (use google), but it represents the video standard for countries in Europe (in general). And NTSC is standard for USA and Canada and NTSC/J for Asia. That is very rough description.

Can't race it in PAL either, and the stock gearbox seems to have awfully long gears...

wait a second there, couldn't you race a 350z with the top down in Prologue against another 350z and that was ok (better than time-trial), so why didn't PD put that option in? or have they upped GT4 from prologue so much? ahh well, still alot of other fun cars to drive.

Surely it's more like "California, yeah that's part of Texas" since Scotland is part of the nation of Great Britain whereas Canada and the USA are separate sovereign nations :)
Sorry to be picky :)

As for the Caterham not being raceable, that's a bit poo. Couldn't they just stick weather gear on it so it'll run ok with 6 cars?
Is the Ariel Atom in the game? That's possibly my fave of the superlight sportscars. 300bhp of supercharged Honda Civic Type-R power in around 500kg and noooo bodywork :)

If it's the same as prologue then you will only be able to race open top cars in one on one races in arcade mode.

PAL stands for Phase Alternating Line. It's superior to NTSC in that it has a wider bandwidth, more lines and better colour reproduction. It's used throughout europe (and many other places I guess) except for France which uses SECAM. SECAM (Sequential Couleur Avec Memoire or Sequential Colour with Memory) is similar to PAL but transmits colour in a different way.

Well I notice I've won allot of useless and bought useless cars since the 22nd. I do wish the would of put up some caution that these convertibles cant and wont me used, this way I could have saved some cash. Heck half the cars I've won can’t be sold one used in many if any events. To me this is wasted space, it’s the same thing as having 3 Supras that are all the same with a different year typed up!

I love the game and wouldn’t trade for the world but I do wish I could drive and race favorites!
