I cant't figure out what the assistant driver means by his directing words. Right and left are easy enough to figure but the numbers don't seem to be gears, speeds, section numbers, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you regard the numbers as the gear you take the corner in, you'll have it pretty much cracked. not all cars have 7th gear but take 6&7 flat out, 5 pretty much flat out with a good line, maybe lift slightly then 4 in 4th, 3 in 3rd etc. sometimes he can be a bit late with them but most of the time you'll absolutely nail it if you use this basic formula. when he says something like 1 long, or 2 long it's usually a double apex bend or just simply a long single apex bend. When he says 500, 600, over 1000 etc that means a straight (or maybe slight kink) of roughly that length in metres. In other words if he says over 1000 then get your toe down without fear of a bend! hope this helps

that's pretty much what i got out of it.
take the corners in whatever gear he calls out, length (300meters, for example) is for length of straight-aways. long and short is how tight the corners are.

Long and short are how long the corners go on for, the numbers is how tight they are. You'll hear him say 'long left 4 tightens 2' which means a long sweeper you can drift relatively fast that will tighten up to a sharp bend at the end.

It definitely doesn't refer to gears; rally co-pilots use numbers 1-7 simply to refer to the tightness of the radius of the corner, but if equating that number with a gear helps you, go for it.

Am I the only one surprised at how many people who are playing GT5 have very little to no knowledge of motorsports? I thought most of those who got this game were the type who watched racing on tv, followed their favorite real world racing series, had a genuine interest in cars and knew more than the average joe about them, etc. This thread and the one where the guy complains about alignment specs not being dumbed down enough in the game really have me wondering..

Not everyone has access to everything? I enjoy WRC but it just isn't on TV as much as it used to be. I could watch BTCC/DTM/V8SC but they're usually on at odd hours. I make it a point to watch every F1 event live but that's about it. I like cars but I don't know squat about them really. By your logic all FPS players are gun-toting warmongers who enjoy killing people and blowing stuff up. Pretty stupid to paint with such a narrow brush.

hate the co pilot... there's no warning of 'over crest', 'widens' and 'tightens'... rally in gt5 is quite dissapointing... there are so few events and in expert i even manage to overtake 2 of them sometimes... zzz...
