Spectator Injured at Red Bull Demonstration...

He knew what he was doing. From the footage, it's pretty obvious he was trying to jump over the car.

I think you're right - you see him in the long shot beside the Red Bull 'bridge'. He's already looking towards the car and jogging down the slope.

It certainly seems to be a premeditated act - that makes him a dangerous idiot, and they're the worst kind.

EDIT: Just seen a longer clip where the guy gets up and walks off. Now that's disappointing :D

Evidently not fast enough.

I believe the last F1 driver who obliterated an on-track pedestrian died a few hundredths of a second later as he was decapitated by a fire extinguisher. As a result, I think it's something they're quite keen to avoid where possible.

Tom Pryce, I believe. Nasty accident.

Indeed. And the only way they could identify the guy who was hit was at the end of the race when they had to poll who was missing.

He was trying to get a job as a Hollywood stunt man. Or it was a stupid bet.

I didn't know about this until 2 days ago my friend emailed me the video... Pity to have him in this world creating trouble. Lucky for Buemi that the idiot didn't fall on his head or he'll be in much more critical injury...

I just watched that video from different angles on YouTube (happened before I was born) and I just went into  mode!! That impact was just absolutely horrendous, you could see the guy almost ripped in two from the velocity of him spinning as he's flying in the air!! Almost belongs in the rotten.com files!!

oh ya man

definitely goes in my top 3 gnarliest

I like how he tried to hurtle the car. My guess is he was drunk and/or high and his friends were like, "Dude, I bet you can't hurdle one of those F1 cars." And being a drunken idiot, he went "Pssh. Sure I can. Hold my beer." And what you see in the film is a result of drunken stupidity. This is why getting drunk and high are bad ideas.

I also like how Sebastian just keeps on driving.

The guy's wearing a shirt marked 'Staff'. I'm not sure if he actually was staff, of course, but he's pretty stupid anyway.

Buemi does stop - just about. The squadro wouldn't be happy to fry a car at anytime, even if it's just a demo chassis so he has to keep it moving. Plus... this is Buemi. He probably shouted "Look out!" fifteen minutes later.

Agreed. There's a picture of that incident with Tom Pryce in a book I have... my stomach turns everytime I look at it...

I still cannot believe what would comprehend a prat to do such a dangerous thing. Sounds like something out of Jack-@$$...

Now now. As drivers go, you can do a lot worse than Buemi.

RBR should consider themselves lucky they hadn't let Karthikeyan loose in it. They'd still be picking spectator flesh out of radiator now.

Well, with regards to Tom Pryce's accident, it was due to poor marshall training. They ran across the track on a section just after a hill, so the marshalls could not see the cars coming and the drivers couldn't see the marshalls. It wasn't stupidity in a direct sense though you would have thought common sense would be to maybe cross a track where they could see the cars coming...

Then again, we saw pretty foolish marshalling at Canada this year - I don't know what the general practice with debris is for marshalls but surely running out on the track while cars are still circulating for the safety car isn't wise. I know that they try and clear the track as fast as possible but surely there are rules and guidelines for when to enter the track and when not to?

Nothing annoys me more than people making backmarker drivers the butt of jokes. Karthikeyan is not a bad driver. The only thing thats funny is people are so quick to pass off Vettel's success as being down to the car he drives yet so easily make fun and criticise drivers in the slowest teams and ignore the car they drive and the circumstances they are in.

Idiot should have to pay for whatever part went snapping off of the car on impact. I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

The clumsy marshall at the Canadian GP had no business being on the track, my guess is that he was a tow truck/rig driver. Marshalls are required by the assiociation to wear white overalls and a reflective vest, not black like this guy wore.

I know this because I've been part of Quebec's motorsport marshall association a few years ago. While it's all volunteer work, they are extremely serious and safety, both for the marshalls and drivers, is obviously the key point. In order to be marshalling at any major event (like the GP, or the Nationwide race) you are required to accumulate at least, if my memory serves me right, 20 hours of marshalling at other less important events (club events, track days, time trials, etc) after you've passed a class and exam on security and how to react when needed. You're required to carry a radio which communicates with the main safety control room (safety car, ambulance and such) and you must dispatch your position and number (each marshall station is numbered) before actually going on track to receive the signal whether it's clear or not.

Lots of respect for these man and women, it's really not an easy task to do.

Well, I was joking, but since you repeatedly force the issue.

Australia: DNQ
Malaysia: DNF
China: 23rd/23 Finishers
Turkey: 21st/22 Finishers
Spain: 21st/21 Finishers
Monaco: 17th/17 Finishers
Canada: 17th/17 Finishers
Europe: 24th/24 Finishers

Qualifying inn last place at Australia (Outside 107% though), Malaysia, China, Turkey, Monaco, Canada and Europe.

Liuzzi is consistently faster, and while I have loved Liuzzi for many years, I realise he's not the fastest driver out there. Probably not in the fastest 15. So excuse me if I don't feel that Karthikeyan is so fantastic that he's exempt from people making jokes about him.

Edit: But this isn't the place to have this discussion. Again.

Although Liuzzi and Karthikeyan both finished three laps down in Valencia, Karthikeyan was dangerously close to going down a fourth - and being lapped by Liuzzi. In the same car.

I won't take this discussion further but the highlighted sentence is the problem. Is it the same car? Hispania are strapped for cash and while they are producing new parts for their car this season (as they did last season, though more aero this year), they surely will sometimes only have parts for 1 car.
Also, its not easy to directly compare the two, considering Liuzzi was running further up the road than Karthikeyan early on so wasn't lapped till later. Its not surprising in these circumstances that Narain can end up so much further behind. This is the same reason why the gaps between the Lotus and Virgins can get so big too. Maybe you can argue thats down to Narain doing worse at the starts or qualifying lower down but the point is its not down to simply being slower all race long.
I understand that its only natural that the slower cars/drivers become the jokes, but sometimes its a little irritating when these jokes start to become a reputation. I've already had enough trying to defend Badoer all these years!

Anyway, wildly off topic, so I'll shut up now.

Calling this guy an idiot is a complement.

You need a word that equals his stupidity.

Peter Griffin?
