I was reading the March 2011 PtOM issue #043 the other day, when I came across page 12 labeled with the title heading "Time for Mods" about GT5's planned future with multiple patches. Within the article there was a statement about the upcoming possibility of what they are calling C-Spec. Here is the paragraph as quoted from the magazine ~

...Alternatively, Yamauchi may continue work instead on his rule-obeying free-roam mode (were calling it "C-Spec"), where players drive around at the speed limit, obey traffic laws, and possibly even get out and walk. It may seem as if we're joking, but we're not.

Here are the pics of the page (click for larger size) ~

Now here is where it gets pretty interesting...I remembered seeing a video a while back of Phil Harrison at the 2005 E3 giving a presentation demo showing off what the PS3/Cell/RSX was to be capable of, anyway towards the end of the video (4:05 to end) there was a portion that looked eerily like GT5P's & GT5's London in game. Not just that it was a depiction of London in the Demo, but that it looked like they took it right out of GT (or the other way around if you think about it)!

Here is the video ~

And well putting 2+2 together this is what I have come to query about for all to contemplate & discuss! More specifically ~ what are your thoughts about it Amar?

I know he (Yamauchi) has talked repeatedly about having an "open world" mode, I'm guessing that would be C-Spec. That's really the embodiment (for better or worse) of the "driving simulator" (not racing simulator) philosophy of Gran Turismo. I'd be okay with it, I do it now in practice mode with many cars after I buy them anyways.

techdemo for Getaway. Has got nothing to do with PD.
The article says, he is either working on the youtube feature or on that free roam mode, which was once related by Kaz himself to the white futuristic skyline city level. (holy crap... he can call that level the Skyline!!!!! get it!!!!)

Somehow, I still think this is unlikely. Open world mode carries the possibility of *gasp* SPEEDING. And if they want you obeying traffic laws, they have to have something to enforce that. Which means you might have POLICE to stop you. And given the number of manufacturers they have to please, I'm doubting it. I don't know if anyone heard about this, but all the Hondas and Acuras were removed from NFS Undercover because they don't want people to see their cars getting chased by cops.

On the plus side, think of all the great photo opportunities. Fanfiction writers would love it (assuming you could use standards) because it would make the illustrations for the between-race scenes much more realistic.

maybe thats why the game took so long and came out in the shape that it did... Because they have been working on C-Spec.

eather way it sounds interesting.

 you'd sell it because they include an optional play mode?

Yes. I don't want to support a company that tries to market a drivers ed game as entertainment.

I can see literally *zero* entertainment in being stuck in virtual traffic. I get stuck in real traffic on the way home from work, it sucks. Explain why I should turn on my PS3 for a great session of fake traffic right after getting out of real traffic.

They could be spending time on something actually entertaining, or improve what they have.

I don't think you understand the point. He's trying to focus on the open world and enjoyment of driving. It's like taking a cruise on a nice Sunday morning. You don't have to speed or break any traffic laws (or sit in traffic for that matter). Rather, the point is enjoying the sights and sounds of your environment and vehicle.

I do this frequently IRL so I completely understand the entertainment you could get from it.

Nothing drivers ed about it.

Point-to-point, free roaming, city based races would be cool.

Stopping for stoplights and gramma drivers doesn't.

Depending on if A) this ever happens and 2) what route they go with it, it certainly has potential.

Why do they not simply add a mountain back road track to the game? Forza has the Fuji track which is just a 2 lane mountain road. The track is a circuit and is some 13 miles or so, tons of fun.

I often take my car out to drive on the weekends, just for a good sunday drive. The worst part is getting to the back road (traffic, lights, slow drivers, etc), and once I'm on the back road it sucks when someone else is driving their slow RV on it and refuses to pull off.

Unless this is an overly elaborate name for "adding realistic looking, fun driving roads" it sounds terrible. I don't see how anyone can get fun or enjoyment driving on city streets obeying traffic laws. You really want to stop at stop lights every block for 20 minutes, in a game?

Ha ha, I would absolutely love some mountain back roads in the game, I spend plenty of time on the weekend (and my unch breaks) trying to find new twisty back roads to play on.

I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt that this would still be focused on the pleasurable aspects of driving and not the frustrating parts. If it is just mundane city driving in traffic...well, I can't see that flying with anyone.

It'd be nice having an alternative to racking up 100 "cruising" miles a week in my car though. Things like Deals Gap or portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway or roads listed here would be awesome to be able to just cruise around on with no time limits or a finish line.

That's my hope at least if this ever shows up. For what it's worth, that was an old interview I believe and I doubt we would see anything like this any time soon (if ever).

So later D-Spec will be added. In D-Spec you will be a pedestrian teenager trying to cut your neighbor's grass to save some money to buy a '91 civic SI.

That would be great but based on the rumors and fan's hopes I've read, I don't see it panning out like that. I'll wait and see I guess. The parts about "following traffic laws" just sounds like a bad idea. I don't want to drive like a mad man, but I don't want to be penalized somehow for speeding or crossing the yellow, and I definitely don't want grandma slowing me down.

Side note, if you're ever in the area, 58 East from Damascus, VA is amazing 👍

I hope after C-Spec they introduce D-Spec.

D-Spec would require two move controllers. It will be an online mode that will work with online C-Spec. When other C-Spec players run out of fuel, or need a new tire or an oil change then they will come to a GT-Auto where you, the D-Spec player, will use the move controllers to change oil, refuel and change tires. You will receive credits in return to buy cars...

Also, with a future patch, there will be introduced a special mode, D-Spec: Bikini Car Wash, where your girlfriend must put on a bikini (the Playstation Eye will make sure she is not cheating, only bikinis allowed!) and she will use the move controllers to wash the others C-Spec players cars, while they watch a 3D Bikini model that will follow your girlfriend's moves. Extra credits & experience points will be rewarded if she puts some sensual moves or if she wears a seriously sexy bikini...

Of course, the problem is that till then your girlfriend would have dumped you due to your GT5 addiction...

Now... on a more serious note, if that C-Spec rumor is correct and true, I would have to ask:
What is PD thinking??!!!

But somehow I still believe that this is just a crazy rumor created to sell more copies and generate more clicks...
Even PD wouldn't be crazy enough to add something like that to what was once considered a semi-realistic racing game...
Or are they??... They developed B-Spec and Remote Races in GT5 after all.... :ill: :scared:  :yuck: :dunce:

Boring...unless...GUMBALL 3000 RALLY

Lets race the cars against each other across the country. Pick your own route, first one to LA from NY wins.

How about starting basic like other games have in the past:

1) Allow us to roam through virtual garages, or hangars, or any other type of structure which allows us to observe our car collection a la PGR. Or even virtual dealerships. Give us a test drive area so that we can try before we buy.

2) Give us the feeling of actually interacting with the car before driving, such as starting the car, driving out of the pit garage and onto the track, bring back track days, make it more virtual and involving!

PD could be looking in the right direction, but they don't have to go all crazy with driving through cities and such. Keep it simple for the time being. Let's see what happens.

I believe the orginal information was translated into English from Yamauchi's twitter posts, so I wouldn't take the words too literally because between the tweet limit and some unknown person's translation skills, there could definitely be some inaccuracies.

I would love to get up to that area, I've been planning a Blue Ridge Parkway road trip for awhile now, but its just a matter of weather improving and finding a few days free to get out of town (I'm in Atlanta).
