I am experimenting with some different technologies designed to increase the loading speed of the site. Over the next few days, please let me know if you find the site to be faster, slower, or if you can't detect any change. :)

Is that 'Go to last post' a part of this? :) ..the previous icon looked better.. But always great to see that the site is ever evolving.. :D 👍

:ouch: Oops, that missing image was my own mistake - it should be back now. Thanks for pointing it out. 👍

Hopefully it's not just a placebo effect, but it seems to be flying now. 👍

I assume that the red bar of the polls now being transparent has something to do with this?
Anyhow, I didn’t detect any change in the speed of the site at all.

I'm getting that all the poll bars are transparent...

The site is absolutely flying in Chrome, although I didn't notice too much difference in Firefox.

Ack, the transparent polls were also my mistake, sorry. They should now appear as normal.

Working a decent bit faster on Firefox, and Chrome is absolutely flying. Internet Explorer fairly slow compared to the other two, though.

Yeah, Chrome loads everything literally instantly. Never been like this before.

Not noticed any difference in Firefox yet though.

Edit: Maybe a little quicker viewing threads, but elsewhere seems the same.

Using Firefox and haven't noticed any speed increases, and had a few backups where it got really slow for a minute or two while at home. It's slower here at work, but I think that is just our poor internet connection.

I'll have to try Chrome though which is on my laptop. I'll also be curious to see how the speed compares when I'm at school today.

The only thing I've noticed is bold regular-user names.

EDIT: And possibly faster posting times.

Could you elaborate on this? I have not made any cosmetic changes.

I'm not noticing any difference here, seems to be loading fine as usual. If anything actually I'd say it feels slightly faster making and editing posts while I'm downloading something, can't see any difference otherwise.

Now that I'm back from work and on Firefox 3, it looks like regular members' names are black and bold. The same thickness as Premium and Staff names. Hmm. I never noticed that with Firefox 2.

In Google Chrome all the regular members' names are black and not bolded, but are italicized. :dunce:

IE8 is running slow as usual and regular member names are italicized also. They aren't supposed to be italicized, eh?

I wonder if some settings are messed up on my browsers. All the programs on my computer are freshly loaded and should all be on default settings after my recent Windows armageddon.

EDIT: I noticed the fonts in my Media Player 11 are italicized also. Maybe it's my computer displaying fronts that way. Interesting.

Thanks very much for your input, everyone. So far, your responses matched my expectations, so I will continue tweaking and will post a comment in this thread in regards to when you should keep an eye out for additional site speed.

This would definitely appear to be an issue with your computer's fonts. Everything looks normal and displays consistently across all of the browsers on my end.

Hey Jordan, is the site under maintenance again? It seems all the image and icons are missing. I was surfing GTP like normal, and after a while this happen:

If so, then maybe its nothing much. If not, than maybe my browser is acting up again...... :irked:

I get it too, it looks a bit messed up:

:scared:

EDIT: I know that's a crappy picture, but you get the idea?

Me too. Seems to be all the graphics/buttons loosing their links maybe?

Yes, same issue here. Happens on Firefox 3 and IE7.

Judging from the look of the menu bar it's a CSS issue, perhaps a style sheet not loading?

The Firefox error console throws four warnings opening this page, all are "Error in parsing value for property 'font-weight'. Declaration dropped."

The "Quick Reply" box has no icons in it, but using the Firefox "Page Info" > "Media" view, I can see that all of the icons are loaded.

That's always like that, nothing to worry about.

The page render is tripping up over a downed server on a subdomain - http://cdn.gtplanet.net/ and its screwing up some of the css loading

Solution - fix the cdn box

 As P3nT4gR4m observed, the content delivery service that I was using to host images and static CSS files went offline. Needless to say, I won't continue working with that company after this outage... All should be normal now, please accept my apologies for the issues.
