A Lacklustre Race Ends Lacklustre Weekend.
The Touring Car event, raced Saturday evening at Infineon, didn't put on the show all expected. Delays, and poor track conditions amounted to accidents and engine failures a plenty. A disgruntled group of drivers got the most enjoyment driving off of the Infineon grounds. m.piedgros in the 12 Team Air Force Reserves Focus took the win he joked, "Well, it was one of those weekends where persistence, consistency, patience and understanding for your fellow racer brought you to victory lane. On the bright side, the Team Air Force Reserves cars got two podiums! Haha, we're off to a great, unexpected, but great start!"
FireEmblem62, driver of the 13 Air Force Reserves car begrudgingly agreed, "I wish I was the one taking home the big prize. Of course I am happy for m.piedgros. On a serious note, these are points for the team and we'll take 'em." FireEmblem62 had a relatively uneventful race, the fourth place qualifier was able to avoid contact and lap quick enough to stay within striking distance, never taking advantage.
After the BM's looked so good in qualifying the tanks that Team Air Force Reserves brought to the circuit proved to beat the BMW's as a whole but for one exception. racefan88501 put in a silver performance on a weekend where field numbers dwindled, attrition rate was impressive and speed didn't play the role it is used to in Touring Car. "I just went out and lapped. When I observed the problems everyone appeared to be happening I just decided to short shift, back-off and just lap." A strategy it seemed our finishers all used, "Unfortunately m.piedgros was to dense to pick up on that earlier and overtook me," he joked, "I had to opportunity to push pass but I realized upon catching him up we were both in the same boat and we may as well finish."
So the series moves on, what will the next round hold? Hopefully a bigger field, and some mechanical toughness from the cars. Oh yeah, and checking the egos at the gate may help some drivers.
