Spelling and Punctuation

I've been browsing the boards and come across some posts that just don't make sense. For a start, the spelling is wrong, the grammer is wrong and the punctuation is wrong. I mean, read this - taken from the GT2 forum.

I won this a while back, and i mean damn 1011 HP! i wuz happy, until I took it for the max speed where it makes out an 220sum....PLUS it just dusnt wanna steer.....takin it that it is a drag car, i dont mind the steerin bein of....but wut r yall thoughts on this car.....definitiely didnt live up to my expectations

I reckon a rule should be put in place to stop people from trying to save time and spelling words differently. And also a rule to make sure your post is properly punctuated so people can understand it.

I dont think there should be a rule, just a little reminder like the:

reminder. Most people do mis-spell some words, most time it is an accident....

But look at that post. You can't tell me that was accidental.
I mean, it's pretty obvious when someone has made mistakes by accident and purpose.

I didn't know how to spell it.

Some people just spell words wrong purposely to save time and you can't understand it. And then they don't punctuate it properly (sometimes not even at all) and they expect you to know when a new sentence starts. It all just doesn't make sense then.
 
I dnt undrstd ppl who shrtn wrds, jst like txt'ing. I find it easier to type the whole word out, just like I find it easier to drive a manual than an auto :odd: :dunce:
 
I feel ya Eddy, but with the world-wide usage of the board etc, I think it would be hard to make anything like that a rule. I read, about a year ago, of a possible system that might help give notice to the people who make more of an effort, in the spelling/grammar area, but I dunno what happened to that, and wheather it would really work out right if it were implemented. (coulda worded all that alot simpler, if I could just think of the one word I was wanting to use, LOL)

By world-wide usage do you mean for example:

:USA: spelling: favorite
:au: spelling: favourie

:USA: spelling: color
:au: spelling: colour

:USA: spelling: center
:au: spelling: centre

You should choose your language:

English (US)
English (UK - this includes Australia, New Zealand, etc)
Dutsch
You get the drift...

Abd that is what your spell checker should be based on.
 
Sorry, I had to correct the title - it was giving me facial tics.

I agree - some of the spelling errors result in some of the posts being almost unreadable.

Well, that and language barriers.. There alot of people who speak a foreign language, but know english and do their best to translate-so everybody can get the jist. Personally, I think your gripe, (like I said, I feel ya..), is just somthing that has to be lived with, on widely used boards such as this. There are just too many variables to fix, without snubbing somebody who had no intention on upsetting the masses.

Yeah, I just hate spelling mistakes. But I love irony more than I hate bad spelling.

I've suggested this before that a spellchecker be installed, but no one would use it. We'll just have to learn to live with the kms and memes of the world.
 
What about this?

Taken from the GTP, rules and terms of service.

* No slang words that promote laziness, ie; "r", "u", "plz", etc.

* Half decent grammar is expected. Use of capital letters
starting sentences is looked upon favorably. Spelling
half decently is also encouraged.
