Went to my parents to do an oil change (because my place has no garage and a very uneven driveway) and I saw this WRX. My mom has an Outback Sport 2011, and he really liked the car except it's severe lack of power, so he went and traded his BMW for a WRX. I am proud.

One of these days I want to go out and do a proper shoot with both cars. Actually, I have been trying to organize a shoot with a few co-workers with Subarus.

I told him not to beat on it too much yet. He ignored me.

Haha, wish my mom had a WRX. Your moms awesome!

Just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to pick up a blue WRX. After seeing this thread I just couldn't resist. Just so glad I finally found one!

Also congrats on your dad purchasing a WRX. I still like the 04-05 years the best. However I have to admit, the 06 "Hawkeye" Subaru's are growing on me.
Thanks man! I'm glad to hear it. And congrats on the purchase, I've been stalking your thread seeing the progress you've made so far already and it's coming along nicely. Enjoy the hell out of that car. 👍

Ty. I have a question for you. I asked in my thread but no one answered. Inside my car between the dome light switch and the windshield is a plastic "flap" that folds down. It is about 4" wide. What is that for?

Above the rear view mirror? Dunno really. Always assumed it was a small sun visor so you don't get blinded while looking in the mirror.

Yes that "flap" is what I am talking about. Never thought about it being used as a sun visor. Hmm seems like there has to be more to it than that but maybe not. I forgot to take a pic of it last night.

EDIT: You are correct its called "Center Sun Visor". I really thought it was something much more complicated.

Thanks!

Went to a buddy's house to get some things done.

Coolant flush and Kartboy short throw shifter with all new bushings. I wanted to spice up the driving a little bit and the short throw did just that. It makes the driving experience even better, and now the shifts make a satisfying "click" into gear. Not bad for $150.

You have to gather all your Subaru friends and family and do with them a photoshoot. It wasnt a suggestion, it was an order! :sly:

We have been planning to do just that for a long time! Never get a chance I guess. I have at least 4 friends in mind that would be interested that have Subarus.

Last year we did a small shoot.

The shifter upgrade is something I have also been considering with my WRX. Currently it feels a little gritty. So I might have to do something similar with mine too. So its called a "Kartboy short throw shifter" ? How much was the shifter kit by itself not including your coolant flush?

That small photo shoot from last year turned out nice. Would like to see what you could come up with if you had at least another car for the shots.

I got a shifter kit from TurnInConcepts.com that included all the bushings for $215 (it was on sale at the time, it's now $245 it looks like). The shifter itself from Kart Boy is $150ish. You don't need to replace all the bushings, but it's highly recommended, rather than using your current ones on the short throw. It's very labor intensive... required removing the entire shifter mechanism from the underside of the car, but would be very simple if you are not replacing the stay bushings.

Other good places to get Subaru parts are...

Edit: Just realizing now, that you would need to find a shifter kit specifically for the WRX 5-Speed, which are different than mine. Here is a link to WRX short throw parts including the Kartboy for $100, no bushings.

At 77,000 miles I think I'm at that point of car ownership where things will start breaking/ need replacing. A few weeks ago I noticed a leak from the power steering high pressure line, so yesterday I replaced all the power steering lines with stainless steel lines and changed the fluid.

Also, I can hear a faint scratching noise from the clutch when it's in neutral. I'm thinking throw out bearing needs replacing, but I'll ignore it for now and just do the clutch/ flywheel at the same time. The clutch pedal itself is very squeaky right now too, probably just needs greasing up.

I moved to a new place that has a garage for a change! Super exciting to me. That means I can start collecting tools.

And a random shot because I'm bored.

Your car looks perfect for some great B-Roads near me. I can imagine the noise of your car in my head. :)

Thanks guys!

It really is a blast to drive Clark. I've owned if for just about a year and a half, but I still look forward to driving it every day. The car does have that boxer engine sound that they're famous for, but mine is not nearly as loud as other STIs/ WRXs on the road... which is fine with me. :)

Congrats on the new place and the garage. 👍
Also thanks for the info about the shifter. You should also post the picture of your car by the castle.

So. Been a while since I've posted anything because, quite frankly, I haven't done anything to my car. But that all might change soon. I'm serious considering lowering my car. Not slamming it or any of that crap, but just slightly so it looks right. The gap in the front is getting to me, I'd like it to be like the rears.

This is my car now. I wonder if I could get away with just lowering the fronts like a half inch to an inch or so, or is that a bad idea?

Well an alignment would be in order afterwards but nothing bad comes to mind drivability wise.

I figured an alignment would be necessary. Thinking more along the lines of spring compression rates and the car no longer being level with only the front lowered. Probably wont matter if Im not racing or anything like that.

I bought fronts and rears, will replace struts if needed.

Yes go for it. That front gap in the Imprezas has always bothered me too. My wife's RS has that front gap but my WRX sits perfect since someone else already lowered it to the perfect height using Prodrive 1" Lowering springs.

I would recommend getting adjustable coil overs for the front. Then you can dial it in to perfection.

Just went to your thread and borrowed your photo, because that's pretty much the perfect height. I bought OEM STI Pink Springs (JDM because US ones would not lower the car), but I may return them and look into coilovers all around. With lowering springs/ struts it would cost only a couple hundred more for coilovers. That way I can adjust them and actually drive my car in the snow, huh? :sly:

Oh god I thought I was going to come into this thread and reading you had gotten rid of it after all the talk of it. Nice to see you've still got it.

I seriously considered selling it recently yes. But I can't imagine anything better to replace it with.

A modded b5 S4 perhaps? :sly: nah that's probably a bad idea considering the upkeep on those. Just keep the suby looking that good 👍
