Spore

I've been loving this game. Hope I'm not smited.

Joey, did they really talk like "that"? Wow, pretty intense. I got some weird looks playing Doom back in the day, you know, killing demons and such but that's out of control. Maybe you should have told them that it demonstrated creationism and in this fictional little world in your laptop, you got to play god. So it's not that EA is anti religious, I would say they're just more pro-creation with the player in the pilot seat. :)

Spore's been loads of fun so far. Very relaxing and easy to play which is nice after a stressful day of work.

After looking into it more they belong to some non-university sponsored group on campus that pushes their religion and their ideal. Sort of like that group that protests a soldier's funerals about gays in the military. They have always been way over the top and continuously try to get the Anthropology Club shut down because they think we sit around plotting world domination through atheism or something. I'm not real worried though, like I said I don't believe for a second all religious people are like that, mainly because my buddy was sitting there with me who is very Catholic. Even my Mormon professor seems interested in the game.

I just thought it was a bit comical that they would do such a thing, I mean I might tell something they game they are playing is awful do to it being poorly made or less then stellar reviews (I'm a geek, I'm allowed  ), but I would never tell someone they are wrong because of the content of they game they are playing on their computer.

And Pako I agree, if anything the game is more religion based then some people may think. As I've said, it is intelligent design (unless of course the person behind the computer is a moron). Your creation also can develop a religion, my society right now in the game is a great example of that. It's fun to build big vehicles to roll into a city and convert them.

I suppose there are always going to be extreme cases of people like this anywhere, I just keep forgetting that the Detroit area is very religious.

If people were really like that with you then just ignore them. There's nothing anti-religous about Spore. If your being that picky then you can find ant-anything in almost everything. Your right to assume religous people arn't generally like that, my parents are very religous but they arn't nut jobs, they don't go around screaming at people who do thngs they don't agree with they just ignore it. There's extremists in every walk of life and they all share one thing in common, they're all idiots.

As for the game, I'm enjoying it. It's not quite what I expected, but I'm enjoying it. When you get to the space stage you have to control your actions for a while, for example attacking the first species you meet will typically result in you getting battered from all angles. It takes a while before you have defensive capabilities that allow you to be less friendly with other species.

Like I said they are some extreme group on campus that does this to everyone who isn't like them, I'm not to worried about it, I just found it a bit humorous that they would do that out of the blue. I'm sure they do it with other games as well but I just happened to be their target that time. I eventually did just ignore them by popping in my headphones and they hung around a bit longer, but eventually left, presumably to stir up a fuss with other people. I think that is all they do to be honest and most of the people around school, whether religious or not, have a strong dislike for their group.

Does anyone want to post their Spore screen names so we can share creations? Mine is Joey D, feel free to add and use anything I make (although I haven't gotten great at it yet).

Mine is: CosmicMS3

I will have to check yours out Joey D. Ignore the extremists. Spore is all about imagination anyways. If people want to see it as anti-god and all of that, so be it. It is a game, and some people can't get past that simple fact.

You have some pretty cool creature 95GTIVR6. They are showing up around the galaxy as well, which is pretty neat.

Right now I'm pretty far into the space stage and have a ton of colonies, purchased star systems, and conquered star systems. Everyone in the vicinity of my home world has either been destroyed, bought out, or are my friends. I'm making my way towards the centre of the galaxy which is I guess what you need to do to "finish" the space stage.

Here is my spaceship that I made:

And here is what my main race looks like:

I have 4 other planets going as well but they haven't reached the space stage yet.

**I forgot, I found a MINI Cooper made by someone else and modified it to make it look like my own car.

Got Spore yesterday. Just finished the tribal stage. It’s quite a bit of fun so far. Not the best game ever, but it’s fun and easy going and pretty addictive too. The creators are a bunch of fun and it’s cool that you have full customisability over the characters you use.

Now, off to build a city!

The game is enjoyable but very shallow. Overall I'm disapointed. The gameplay becomes repetitive fairly fast. And for me, it's quite annoying having to manually make money in the space stage. not to mention fight every little battle for your planets and save every little creature from disease.
Yeah, physically the game is huge, and the creator tools are great for making cool looking vehicles, but you'll hit rock bottom real quick. There is just no depth at all. It's like looking out on a massive body of water and then jumping in and breaking an ankle because the water is only about a foot deep.

Apparently the game was offensive to them because it was blasphemous and went against God and creation. They told me to go to the site www.antispore.com to see how idiotic (there words) I have been for support EA's anti-religious game.
 Seriously? I take it they didn't realise that that site was a spoof? Clearly not... It has since been updated with advertising banners where you can buy the game... still, it's pretty outrageous nevertheless!

I've seen mixed reviews about the game, and it also looks like it is beyond my threshold of required effort for a computer game (I am one of those people who cheated on Sim City to get instant money all the time...), so I probably won't be buying it anyway...

These two things are annoying but I’m enjoying the space stage quite a lot so far. Trying to create different types of real creatures in the creator is quite fun, too.
