I feel nervous before each Sports mode race but then I feel more relaxed when the races begin. Not sure why.
Were you being lapped?Patience!
I sent my first message to someone after being butt-raped for a lap because of traffic. 4 cars battling. The guy behind me finally ran out of, you guessed it, patience. Jammed his nose up the inside and pitted me.
He just happened to be on my friends list. My message to him read, “Learn to pass.” His response, “I gave you plenty of time to get to get out of the way. Slower cars must let faster cars through, the rules.”
I just assume the worst when someone is filling my mirrors unless I know them. Stressful as hell.
Nope. I was being patient waiting for a 4 car jam ahead of me to sort itself out. Lap 3 of 10.Were you being lapped?

I actually tried to explain the general rules nicely, but was treated to insults. Still trying to figure out how he ended up on my friends list. Then he is ****ed in the head.
Tell him he started behind you on the grid, so he is obviously a slower driver and had to rely on contact and pit maneuvers to pass.I actually tried to explain the general rules nicely, but was treated to insults. Still trying to figure out how he ended up on my friends list.
Ditto. My first race online was after I completed everything else there was to do. Qualified on pole @ DPY which didn't help as I was worried about how the people behind would handle turn 1 the whole time the car parade was going on. Got rammed in the chicane on lap 1 and went back to 4th which really got my temp up and heart going. After making it a lap without incident I was able to clam down enough and eventually set fast lap and got the win as well.It took me over a month to get the courage to go online and The first 20 races i did in sports mode had me literally shaking, feeling weak and light headed (especially when in first or on pole or when you see that guy behind in your mirror and you just somehow know he's going to ram/push you off).
I have calmed down loads since, thank the virtual lord.

yes..but these dolts are defending as well.
My comment was based on the analogy to multi class racing. There is no defending . And honestly even straight up I don't defend against folks who are clearly faster, as is the case in fuel map 5 and red tires vs the the alternative, but hey... that's just me. To hear you tell it I could defend in quali too.If the car in front that is being overtaken is not being lapped then he has every right to take defensive lines whether you feel you are faster or not. Taking defensive lines and forcing the overtaking car to use a non optimal racing line to cleanly complete the pass is a very large part of acceptable normal racing technique.
Whether he is on older tires, using a lower fuel map and is actually turning a slower lap time is really of no consequence as long as he is not employing illegal blocking moves to maintain his position. If you are faster you will find a way to legally without contact make the pass or you do not deserve as a racer to gain the position.
This is racing, not a track day and every position has to be earned, that driver you complain about being slower and holding you up is doing the exact same thing you are and trying to secure the best finish possible even though he may be employing a different strategy such as not pitting to so.
Now if the car in question is being lapped that is different he should not fight to stop the leaders from going past.

Taking a defensive line is giving up your normal racing line.Even RL multiclass races the slower cars do not try to hold up the faster cars but they do not give up their normal racing line or are not expected too in most situations as they are still in battles in class where track position and time loss or gained in front of or behind an in class car can result in affecting the races final outcome.
The faster class of cars is still responsible for safely making the pass on the slower cars. Again this is racing not a track day.
Even in a hot track qualifying situation it is up to the driver attempting the flying lap to set his lap up to where he has ample clear track ahead so that traffic does not affect his lap.
I do not know of any racer that would stay on the racing line during a Q session unless they were on a hot lap of their own so your comment is just you trying to be a smart ass!
Maybe you should better learn the rules of racing and the difference between what is expected concerning overtakes in different situations . Now that is my smart ass reply!
It is only 11 days until the Rolex 24 hr at Daytona starts and the TV coverage for the event is usually very good and a joy to watch. Want to see some good multi class racing then tune in. With it being a 24 hour event the positions are not contested as hotly during the majority of the race as they would be on a shorter time frame event.

Taking a defensive line is giving up your normal racing line.
I can close my eyes throw a dart and land on a track where what you describe would be considered negligible in relation to all corners in that track. Especially if there is a huge disparity in speed and pace. Your condescension is amusing given I track my car (albeit not professionaly) and I happen to be a Florida resident who has been to multi class events at Daytona and Sebring. That very much depends on the corner, many corners the defensive line also happens to be the normal optimal line so again you cannot always say that your comment is correct . Care to try again?

PS.. Of course I cannot "always" say - racing is a situational sport.
Yeah, I know. You won't get anywhere arguing with them. They're right because they're fasterPatience!

I realize this is not multiclass racing, but it's what it is all about. The faster ones simply have to wait to get by. No one in real racing runs off into the gravel so that faster cars can pass anywhere they wish. It's simply not possible. Even in going fast, there has to be patience. Unfortunately there is none to be found. Simply "You're too slow, get off the track!" If racers had that attitude in real life they would get into a wreck. Sure. Blame the slower car, but now your car is wrecked. It's your own fault. But because this is merely a game guys can shove you off and blame you. That's the real problem, I find, in GTS and other 'SIMS'. It would go a long way to wait and pass where you CAN pass. Just remember: Multiclass racing, perhaps the highest level of racing, this is what it's all about. Go ahead, tell the team boss you wrecked out and blame the slow driver. See how many calls you get to drive for the team next year. But again, this is a game, so even though everyone holds slower drivers to all these "Rules", the faster guys don't follow any rules themselves.
I have woken up extra early for work on my own and decided to do a morning race. Wakes me up more than any coffee can do. I can feel my heart beating in my chest it's so intense. I only get worked up if I am battling for podium positions, anything lower and I am relatively calm. This game is intense, there is so much to pay attention to.
I raced with you on Sunday night at the Bathurst night race, I fibbed the pit lane and got stuck in the wall for a good 6-8 seconds. good racing with you!
I know it's a bit late to respond to the first post butttttttt
Oh yeah, doing one of those 20 minute daily races. Starting fourth and then, right on the last or second or second to last lap you narrowly beat someone coming out the pits and it's just an insane head to head battle to the finish. Or starting in pole on the nurburging GP. Honest to god, that's the most stressed I've been in a while.... and the angriest, but that's a story for another day.
It's never too late to respond to the OP.
I've never been on pole at Nurburgring, but I know the turn 1 punt very well. One of my most triumphant moments in the game so far was seeing someone lining me up, me moving quickly out of the way, breaking early and watching them not make the corner.
Excellent explanation I totally agree. As long as the driver in front of you is acting within the rules, there is nothing to blame him for. If you’re faster than it’s up to the chasing Car to drive smart and find a legal way to pass. Defensive driving is at least just like that important. If executed in a decent way, you‘ll always have fair racing. If the car in front that is being overtaken is not being lapped then he has every right to take defensive lines whether you feel you are faster or not. Taking defensive lines and forcing the overtaking car to use a non optimal racing line to cleanly complete the pass is a very large part of acceptable normal racing technique.

Dude you're funny. Dusted off the ole resume , yet I'm the one trying to impress you. You know nothing about me yet you continue to assume and condescend. Have a great day man. Too funny. And I never stated that all corners on any given track would fit into the criteria of the optimal line being the same basic line as the defensive line.
My whole point was that if a car is running on the same lap then regardless of speed difference it is up to the overtaking car to make a safe pass and not the normal practice of the car being overtaken to give way and move off of the racing line and taking a defensive line is perfectly acceptable to protect the position and force the pass to be made off the optimal line by the overtaking car..
Then the conversation was switched to accommodate multi class racing which currently has absolutely nothing to do with the GTS game but again even in multiclass racing the slower classes are not required to move off of their normal racing line and it is the faster cars responsibility to get by cleanly.
Now your tracking a car club racing or doing track days is supposed to impress me somehow and you have attended and watched races at Daytona and Sebring again that and a few dollars will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
RL I have about 17 years track experience only mine was on two wheels. I have in my younger years held an amateur road racing license with two well known racing orgs. I have attended several highly recognized and accredited motorcycle road racing racing schools.
I have actually turned laps at Rockingham (road course),Road Atlanta, Daytona (road course), VIR and Summit Point Raceway over the years. So I do feel I have a certain amount of actual experience myself that I base many of my opinions on.
And as far as motorsports events attended as a fan and spectator (some amateur, some pro) over the last 40 or so years would number in the low hundreds themselves. So your worldly RL experience does not send me cowering and hiding in the corner due to your perceived superior knowledge of all things racing thank you.
A good place for me to start paying attention to is how many laps the race is
Yup that mistake costed me about 2 places. I’ll add you, could use some people near my ratingI just watched it again, sucks about the pit wall. I got punted out of the pit lane entrance on my attempt to pit. Luckily I had enough fuel for another lap as once the game puts you back on track it’s impossible to get back into the pits.

I am glad you liked it. Again I was just responding to a post you made to me first.
It was you that brought up and started talking about your RL tracking a car and attending a few racing events as if it was your validation of you being or having a superior knowledge over someone else in the conversation because of those experiences not me. If anyone was originally trying to impress it was you first and you failed miserably.
My response was not trying to impress anyone just to show that perhaps you are not the only one in this conversation that has RL racing and track experience in this conversation. I do not care about impressing anyone unlike you apparently who was the one that again raised the issue concerning RL experiences to begin with.
With the above quoted statement you are the one that apparently did not like that someone apparently had the gall to make a comment concerning a statement you had posted so you made the smart ass reply.
But every statement you have made regardless of how wrong you have been given a reasonable explanation as to where your statement is not correct and with each response back you still want to try to give back an answer that apparently you think that shows your wit and intelligence but in reality every response you give is more desperate to try to save face than the last.
If anyone is funny and should be a comedian I advise you to look in the mirror so you can at least get something in this conversation right. I am done here with you anyway.
So it wasn't you that posted the helpful TV schedule above so I could learn about multi class racing? Reacting to what again? Anyhow. Have a great day man. This was entertaining.
To hear you tell it I could defend in quali too.
I was mostly referring to drivers around me, racing line, Pace, fuel, tires, etc. maybe I’m overthinking haha
